Chapter 2838 Tyranid Outlier

"This thing is a Tyranid?"

In the Fire-Bathing Annex of the Phoenix Palace, Sochoyan, dressed in a long robe, stared in surprise at the thing surrounded by four Phoenix Guard, then looked at Veronica in her wide-sleeved dress beside him.

"They didn't get it wrong, did they?"

Veronica covered her mouth and chuckled, saying:

"I didn't believe it at first either, but that's what it said itself. The Druids have also confirmed after checking that it has a high degree of similarity to the Tyranid gene sequence, so it can basically be determined to be the same species."

"Hiss."

Sochoyan gasped and walked down the steps, carefully examining the thing in front of him.

At first glance, it looked like it had evolved from some kind of reptile. It was about three meters tall, covered in bluish-gray skin with thick scales. Its lower body resembled some kind of quadruped, with sturdy, strong legs and a tail with raised scales. Two short rows of spines extended from its back to the end of its tail. Its abdomen was encased in some kind of scarlet device, making it look like it had a big, red belly. Its upper body was similar to a human's, with two strong and powerful arms. A breathing mask that originally covered its face had been removed, revealing a bestial face and sharp teeth protruding from its gums. Its two small, pale eyes showed cunning intelligence and fear. The back of its neck was covered with metal armor plates, which connected to some kind of raised device on its back.

Sochoyan circled it twice, but still couldn't see any trace of its connection to the Tyranids. It could even use technological items, although Genestealers could also use them, but the Tyranid characteristics of Genestealers were still very obvious.

Could this also be a parasitic type of Genestealer?

Or some kind of alien infected by a Genestealer?

Then, Sochoyan picked up a photo, which showed a Tyranid Tyrant chained to a dissection rack.

"Is this you in the picture?"

The beast blinked, looked at the photo in Sochoyan's hand, and then answered in slightly strange but clear Eldar:

"It is."

Sochoyan walked up to it and placed the photo next to its face.

"Is it?"

"Yes."

As it spoke, it turned its head to look at the Tyrant.

"Back then, I was thinner."

Sochoyan suddenly laughed. This thing even had a bit of humor. He was even less likely to believe that this thing was a Tyranid.

"That's not you."

"You say it's not me?"

"No."

"I say it's not me either. How could I be such a brainless animal?"

Sochoyan threw away the photo, which burned into smoke in mid-air.

"Then what exactly are you?"

"Reporting to Phoenix King, I am an Archivist, a free treasure hunter and mercenary."

"I mean, your race."

The being who called himself Archivist was silent for a moment, then answered:

"Formerly Tyranid."

"Hiss, I don't understand what you're saying. What does 'formerly Tyranid' mean? Can your race change at any time?"

"It's not difficult to understand. I was indeed created by the Hive Mind, and I was once controlled by its pheromones, but good fortune allowed me to escape this restraint. I can examine myself, I can think, I can resist, I can develop the power of my mind. Naturally, I am not willing to exist as a tool and return to the digestion pools to become a pool of biomass again. So I escaped, and began to live for myself. I began to learn the knowledge of various civilizations in the galaxy, and became fascinated by it. I named myself Archivist, because this is my goal, to record the traces of civilizations that exist now or have existed in the past, and to build my great museum."

After listening, Sochoyan became even more curious.

"You broke free from the Hive Mind's control? You seem to have also mastered psychic powers? Why would the Tyranids create such unstable beings like you?"

"Because its brainless beasts are useless except for devouring and fighting, but we are different. Even when controlled by pheromones, we can still think and learn. We can communicate with other races, act as ambassadors and intelligence officers, and dismantle all resistance on the Hive's path with the least amount of consumption. We are creatures that fight with wisdom."

Sochoyan nodded thoughtfully and said in a low voice:

"But wisdom is a forbidden fruit. Once swallowed, one will no longer be willing to be manipulated. But why are there almost no records of you, whether in the Imperium or among the Eldar?"

"After a collective awakening, I and other like-minded individuals who aspired to independence planned an operation. We used a unique method to attract the attention of the Imperium of Man, causing the fleet to be discovered in advance, and then fabricated false intelligence that the human defenses were weak and vulnerable, luring the fleet to launch a general attack in advance. As a result, the Tyranid fleet was shattered by the well-prepared Imperium of Man. We took advantage of the chaos to escape the control of the Hive Mind. However, after escaping, we were also hunted down by the Imperium of Man, and could only disperse, leaving a meeting point to meet regularly. According to human chronology, that should have been around M38, three thousand years ago. Perhaps it was also because of this behavior that the Hive Mind completely realized that we were uncontrollable, and then changed its strategy, using Genestealers, which are weaker, but more stable and easier to control, as 'agents'. Facts have proven that this is indeed an extremely effective strategy."

"No wonder the first contact with the Tyranids recorded in Imperial records was five hundred years ago. Obviously, before that, there was no concept of the Tyranids."

Sochoyan then circled the Archivist again, but still felt that something was wrong.

"If you were really created by the Tyranids, why is the physiological structure so different? No claws, no tentacles, no chitinous carapace... Could it be that the Hive Mind knew to disguise itself to avoid premature exposure?"

At this time, Veronica also came over and said:

"The Grand Druid Vanyan Panog did mention a situation. A considerable part of its genes still have clear differences from the Tyranid sequence. Based on this, Vanyan Panog has a guess that it was indeed created by the Tyranids using biomass, so from the 'material' point of view, it is indeed a Tyranid, but its structure is likely to come from a creature swallowed by the Tyranids. The Tyranids used that creature's template to 'replicate' them with biomass, which is why this completely different physiological structure was formed."

"In that case, it makes sense..."

Sochoyan looked back at the Archivist.

"You've been very calm since you came here. Did you determine that we wouldn't hurt you?"

The Archivist replied in a muffled voice:

"I also have a considerable understanding of the Eldar. As long as they are not the sadists of Commorragh, most Eldar can actually be called friendly, at least compared to humans. Whether it is the Craftworld Eldar or the Exodite Eldar, they will not randomly attack a stranger who is not hostile. Your moral standards are still considered high in this galaxy."

"Heh."

Sochoyan laughed and said to those around him:

"Did you hear that? This guy praises people so naturally and unpretentiously. No wonder he can serve as an envoy for the Tyranids."

This thing appeared very early, in the Tyranid 4th edition. Later, it was suspected of being retconned, but in recent years, GW has picked it up again and specifically added it to the Blackstone Fortress RPG book, so Lao Mo arranged it by the way.
