The Emperor’s Angel of Death

#2845 - The Farmer and the Snake (Part 2)

Of course, while the Cardinals were concerned about their own interests, they couldn't express it directly. After all, angels held a supreme position in the doctrine. Therefore, the reasons they found were also very high-sounding—

Every believer of the God-Emperor must have the determination to die to protect the God-Emperor's land!

The final response to Malakim was that they would not abandon any world. They would immediately organize a crusade army to "keep the enemy out" at all costs!

Malakim neither opposed nor supported it, because his trouble had also arrived. Inquisitors from the Ordo Xenos arrived at the Cardinal world. Initially, they only came for the Tyranids. After learning that the Lamenters had already fought the Tyranids, they even had friendly exchanges. Malakim knew that the Eldar were a sensitive matter, so he deliberately concealed the process, simply saying that they had only rescued some residents after a bloody battle.

Originally, that would have been the end of it. The Inquisition wouldn't bother to ask the civilians what had happened. But things went wrong because a group of priests hitched a ride on the Lamenters' ship to the Cardinal world. The Lamenters had no precautions against this, but they underestimated the wickedness of the human heart.

Soon, some of these priests began to secretly report to the Cardinals about the Lamenters' "cooperation" with the aliens, and these matters were secretly leaked to the Inquisitors. Now Malakim couldn't explain himself, because he had concealed it before, and he was immediately placed in a very bad position. He probably didn't expect that the most fatal blow to the battered Lamenters would come from the very people they had fought to protect.

Faced with the Inquisitors' questioning, Malakim was speechless. Although he was unconscious at the time, he was indeed taken aboard the Eldar ship. No one knew what happened in between. According to the standards of the Inquisition, he was already a "suspect" and no longer suitable to serve as Chapter Master, regardless of whether there was evidence or not.

Not to mention that it was the mysterious Eternal Court that saved him, a key alien force that the Ordo Xenos had been trying to investigate. Malakim could become a breakthrough point. Right now, it was just one Inquisitor, but maybe later a group of Ordo Xenos Inquisitors would pounce on him, gnawing him until there was nothing left, squeezing out his last bit of intelligence value, and throwing him into some stasis prison to die.

If Seth and the others hadn't arrived, this might have already happened. However, things were only deadlocked. Although Seth advocated for cutting the Inquisitors into pieces to make pancakes, Malakim and Metellus, two veterans who had experienced the Badab War, were still wary of the authority of the Inquisition, and tried to persuade Seth not to do anything drastic. The Inquisitors also knew that things had changed, so they directly summoned the Deathwatch, sending six kill teams at once. Although there weren't as many people as in a few Space Marine Chapters, it was enough to embolden the Inquisitors. They also determined that the Covenant of Sorrow wouldn't dare to directly confront them here.

Metellus told Seth to wait for Lord Commander Solar Macharius to arrive before making a decision, and the Inquisitors also believed that waiting for Macharius to clarify things should be able to convince this Imperial hero.

Thus, there was the scene before them.

Just as Seth was still cursing and the Inquisitors were constantly issuing threats, everyone suddenly felt the entire cathedral tremble.

"You—"

The two Inquisitors turned their heads in alarm, only to see their protector, Veadrian Synn, being lifted into the air by a giant. The powerful Watch Master didn't even have time to grip his weapon before a huge iron hand grabbed his neck and lifted him up.

"Sol—Macharius."

Veadrian Synn gasped for breath as he grabbed the other's wrist with his left hand and reached for the weapon at his waist with his right.

But the next second, he was flipped over and slammed hard onto the cathedral's marble shrine, creating a huge boom.

"Bastard!"

Ulfsson of the Space Wolves finally reacted from the shock and immediately picked up the battleaxe from his back and drew his bolter pistol, but a huge chainsword crashed down, forcing him to raise his battleaxe to block.

In the huge impact, the Space Wolf was forced to kneel on the ground by the overwhelming force.

"Wolf cub, if you don't want to die, mind your own business."

Seth, who was slowly bending down, pressed the Space Wolf down little by little, bringing his face close to the slowly rotating teeth, revealing sharp canines with a cruel, mocking smile, as if he were a predator looking down on its prey.

"I don't want to send that old wolf Logan an incomplete corpse."

The other Deathwatch also drew their weapons, but the Astral Knights and the people from the other two Chapters immediately restrained them. Only the warrior named Nuros reacted faster than anyone else. Almost as soon as Macharius made his move, he immediately moved, drawing his power sword and trying to attack Macharius from the side.

But a sword blocked his path.

"Don't mess around, okay?"

Robin pointed the tip of his sword at the Deathwatch badge on the other's chest, his other hand leisurely placed by his side, only a palm's distance away from another sword behind his waist.

Although his voice was gentle, it carried a bone-chilling killing intent.

"Otherwise, I will really kill you."

"Macharius! What are you doing! Are you rebelling!"

The two Inquisitors also reacted and immediately reprimanded him, but their palms were already full of sweat. After all, no one expected things to develop to this point.

But Macharius ignored them and walked towards Veadrian Synn, who had been smashed onto the shrine. Malakim immediately walked over.

"Brother Macharius, don't do this. We must unite in the face of a great enemy. My matter—"

"Ma! Cha! Ri! Us!"

But Veadrian Synn got up and immediately drew his Watch Sword, charging towards Macharius.

Macharius pushed Malakim away, then slapped the other's sword away with the back of his hand, raised his leg and kicked him, sending him flying like a cannonball amidst the sparks.

Veadrian Synn once again slammed heavily into the shrine, smashing it to pieces. Just as he was dizzy and bleeding from his ears and nose, a large hand lifted him up again.

"Veadrian Synn, you are no longer worthy of using the mark left by Sigismund. You have insulted the identity of an Astartes. For the duty in other people's mouths, you have even ignored the bottom line of being a human being. You have disappointed me greatly. Those two stupid pigs are mortals, I can understand their stupidity, but I cannot understand your behavior. Do I have to stuff you into the mouth of a Tyranid to make you move your eyes from the ethereal Eternal Court and open them to see the present? If the Eldar and the Lamenters have any conspiracy, then they can kill all the mortals. Without witnesses, do you think you can guess that the Lamenters are related to the Eldar with your brains that are not much bigger than an Ogryn's? Or can you go to the Tyranids to collect evidence and investigate? Don't think I don't know what you're up to. You and these two stinky fish and rotten shrimp have no intention of saving this diocese at all. You just want to get information about that Eldar Court. You don't care about the survival of this remote place. You don't think it can be defended at all. Am I right?"
