The Emperor’s Angel of Death

#2890 - Mysterious Nurus

Chapter 2894 The Mysterious Nurus

"Chapter Master, he is a very brave, decisive, and tenacious son of Dorn. This is not just my judgment; everyone in the Watch Fortress thinks so. He may often seem aloof, and occasionally a bit... stubborn, but he has never let anyone down, whether in battle or in daily management. There are many warriors with sensitive identities in the Watch Fortress, but the Chapter Master has never doubted them because of their origins. He treats everyone as brothers, except when it comes to the Eldar. He can be overly sensitive and emotional about the Eldar, but this is not due to his personal character."

Sotharjan crossed his arms and, after pondering for a moment, asked softly:

"Is it convenient to say why?"

At this moment, a clear look of hesitation appeared on his face. Perhaps Nurus had promised not to reveal these things, but in the end, he decided to tell the truth in order to salvage their relationship.

"When Chapter Master Vidrian was serving in his original Chapter, his company was attacked by the Aeldari during a battle. The Captain and the few survivors barely escaped with their lives, only to encounter the Dark Eldar. I don't know what happened after that, but in the end, he was the only one from the entire company who returned to the Chapter. He said nothing, explained nothing, and no one knew what he had encountered. He directly applied to the then-High Marshal of the Black Templars to join the Deathwatch. Since then, the Chapter Master has held an almost fanatical... hatred for the Eldar."

After listening, Sotharjan didn't know what to say, only endless sighs and lamentations in his heart.

"Then he is now..."

"The Chapter Master is leading others to a world devoured by the Tyranids, wanting to investigate more characteristics of this hive fleet."

Sotharjan nodded, walked back and forth a couple of steps, and said:

"Thank you very much, Brother Nurus, for telling me this. I did misunderstand Chapter Master Vidrian somewhat. I also understand what you mean. I will personally talk to him and express my apologies when he returns. Actually, I was also a bit impulsive at the time; my words were too harsh, and I shouldn't have resorted to violence. I regretted it quite a bit afterward."

"If you can reconcile with the Chapter Master, I think this war will gain another advantage. The Chapter Master also admitted privately afterward that he was indeed misled by the Inquisitor. Now the Tyranid threat is the most important thing, but as a son of Dorn, you also know that admitting mistakes is... somewhat difficult for him."

Sotharjan smiled and nodded, then suddenly asked:

"Brother Nurus, what good advice do you have for this operation against the Tyranids?"

The other party shook his head.

"If it were up to me, I definitely wouldn't do as well as you. We are mainly here to provide you with technical and combat assistance. We will obey you on specific strategies. There are only six of us, but you can rest assured that you can entrust us with any dangerous mission, and we will not let you down."

"Speaking of which, there is indeed a mission."

Sotharjan then led Nurus out of the office, back to the command hall, and then played the video he had shown Farzad again.

"We have encountered a new type of enemy. Perhaps they appeared during the Tyranid War on Macragge before, but the Imperium has no record..."

Just as Sotharjan mentioned Macragge, Nurus's expression changed subtly again, and this was immediately noticed by Sotharjan, leading him to make some guesses, so he emphasized it again.

"Macragge, the place where the Imperium truly engaged in a large-scale war with the Tyranids. The Ultramarines, under the leadership of Chapter Master Calgar, made great sacrifices to achieve victory, defeating the hive fleet that rampaged through the Imperium. This battle also allowed the Imperium to obtain a large amount of Tyranid biological intelligence for the first time. Most of the current information about Tyranid creatures comes from this war, as well as some collected by the Deathwatch in the dark regions east and north of the Ultima Segmentum. But none of these mention this creature. They don't seem to have direct attack capabilities, but they can push the Tyranid's deadly toxic smoke screen forward. In the past, we always thought that Tyranid smoke was produced by fixed bio-structures, but now the facts prove that this judgment is incorrect."

After observation, Sotharjan confirmed some of his guesses, and then pointed to the Venomthrope on the screen.

"The Biologis are working hard to study the composition of this Tyranid toxic smoke, but if we want to crack it, we must trace its source."

The Space Wolf grinned directly and said:

"Simply put, you want us to capture one alive, right?"

"That's right. This is a very dangerous mission that requires the executor to have extensive experience, especially experience in capture operations, which is precisely what most Chapters lack. Our operations are usually aimed at eliminating opponents, rarely at capturing them, but I remember that the Deathwatch often carries out such capture operations, so they should be more professional. Moreover, this operation does not require too many people; too many people will alarm the hive mind."

Nurus nodded slightly.

"No problem, leave it to us."

"If you need any vehicle and equipment assistance, or manpower support, you can directly ask me. I will satisfy you as much as possible."

"Are there any confirmed locations of these creatures at present?"

"Yes, these creatures have been confirmed to be active near Outpost 4."

Nurus thought for a moment and said:

"We have the equipment we need, including specially made tranquilizer darts, which have been proven effective against Genestealers and non-large Tyranid creatures. However, considering that we may encounter large enemy forces during the operation, can you provide timely air support? Our Corvus Blackstar gunship was intercepted by Tyranid creatures when entering the atmosphere, and the left wing and engine were partially damaged. It barely landed and now needs to be repaired."

"No problem. We have Thunderhawks and Stormravens available for you to use. In addition, a Stormtalon squadron can support you at any time. They will arrive as soon as you send a signal."

"Then there's no problem. We'll go prepare the equipment now and set off when we're ready."

As they turned to leave, Sotharjan stared at Nurus's back, until they disappeared out the door of the command center.

Arash walked over at this time and said in a low voice:

"Lord Commander, is there something wrong with these people?"

"There's nothing wrong, but that Nurus... is interesting."

"He's a Black Shield?"

"If I'm not mistaken, he should be from the Ultramarines, and judging from his words and actions, he might even be a company commander."

"A company commander? An Ultramarines company commander... would go to the Deathwatch? And Ultramarines company commanders are all quite famous figures. The loss of any one of them should have spread throughout the Imperium long ago. Like Lysander of the Imperial Fists, his disappearance attracted the attention of the Inquisition as soon as he reappeared. I can't understand how a company commander from a founding Chapter would go to the Deathwatch, and even choose the Black Shield, hiding his Chapter badge. That doesn't seem like the style of an Ultramarine at all."

Although Arash didn't say he didn't believe it, his suspicion was almost written on his face. Sotharjan didn't mind, just smiled.

"Who knows? I'm not interested in those blue guys either, just thinking that maybe there's... some secret hidden here. But it doesn't matter, the galaxy won't stop spinning just because it's missing a certain color, right?"
