The Emperor’s Angel of Death
#2895 - Codename: Broken Sword
As the twin doors of the Night Raven Blackstar gunship opened, a Space Wolf wielding a battleaxe leaped out first, followed by Nuros with his power sword. Everyone wore helmets, and outsiders could only identify them by their armor, weapons, and markings.
As soon as the six Deathwatch landed, they immediately attacked the Tyranids assaulting the breached defense wall. Nuros took the lead, smashing aside a leaping Ripper before slashing left and right, easily killing the surrounding small creatures. Then, a Warrior blocked his path. The Deathwatch Marine silently charged forward, the alien responding with a roar, leaping and swinging its bone swords like the wind, but all were parried by the power sword. Just as the crossed bone swords were held by the power sword after another collision, the Warrior roared, but Nuros simply drew the bolt pistol from his waist with lightning speed and fired twice into the creature's waist. As the wounded Tyranid Warrior lowered its head, he stabbed it through the side, the force almost lifting it up, then grabbed the Warrior's neck and tore off its head.
"Company Captain Bakhram, according to the instructions of Chapter Master Sollyann, we are here to cover the Tenth Company."
While speaking to Bakhram, Nuros scanned the surrounding area of severed limbs, about seven or eight Warriors, then glanced at the upside-down Screamer-Killer outside the breach.
Bakhram knew in advance that there would be reinforcements, but he did not expect it to be the Deathwatch, but he did not show his surprise, just nodded.
"Thank you, uh, what is your name?"
"Nuros."
"Ah, thank you for your support, Brother Nuros."
Their conversation was quickly interrupted as they turned their eyes to a towering figure coming through the mist.
It was covered in thick, viscous chitinous armor, and liquid fire dripped from the purple and yellow spots. It emitted a strong sulfurous stench and projected an aura of intimidation, like a mobile volcano. Its four thick arms gripped four huge bone swords capable of cleaving super-heavy tanks, and arcs of psychic energy flickered on the blades. On its golden-horned head, two emotionless eyes stared at the two Space Marines behind the breach, and a long, clawed tail swayed slowly behind it.
It was the Hive Tyrant who had already "died" once. As long as the Tyranid Hive Fleet was not completely destroyed, this creature could be resurrected in the mothership time and time again, and could also copy the knowledge, personality, and experience previously stored in the Gestalt into the new body. Almost every Hive Tyrant was an almost immortal being, no matter how many times the body was killed, it would always return to continue devouring prey.
It hadn't shown up before because it was afraid of the existence that had killed it. Now, even the Hive Mind had no good countermeasures against such a powerful individual, so it tried its best to keep high-value nodes like the Tyrant out of the attack range of that individual. However, after nearly a month of fierce attacks without detecting the appearance of that super-individual, the Hive Mind judged that the individual was either not present or unable to fight for some reason, and then sent the Tyrant to the front line to direct the attacks on various strongholds.
The steady advance tactic of the Venomthropes came from the Tyrant's pen, the best judgment made after considering the limits of human firepower.
Now it appeared in order to take down the last outer stronghold. At this time, it was surrounded by twelve Tyrant Guards, two-legged, four-armed creatures covered in extremely thick armor, each larger than a Leman Russ tank. They moved more like some kind of large ape, preferring to walk on all fours with their strong forelimbs. At the same time, they very rarely had no eyes, or rather, they didn't need eyes, because they were just "extensions" of the Tyrant's body. The Hive Tyrant would control the guards through synapses, giving them the direction they needed to go, reminding them to pay attention to nearby threats, and arranging them to maximize their resistance to enemy attacks. On the other hand, eyes would become a weak point for the enemy to attack, a gap in their flawless armor, causing them to make mistakes in performing their duties.
Their only value at birth was to protect the Hive Tyrant.
However, these guards had made corresponding changes to the battlefield. One of the crushing claws was replaced, and the other melee weapon was replaced with a shock cannon. The bone spurs fired by this weapon were attached with tendrils that emitted bioelectric shocks, which could not only destroy organisms but also paralyze mechanical creations.
The Tyrant did not launch an attack directly, but let out a roar that shook the earth, and then a massive number of Tyranid creatures surged out of the poisonous mist.
"A Tyrant, if we can decapitate it."
Nuros stared at the Tyrant, seemingly thinking about how to destroy it.
"Perhaps it can disintegrate these Tyranids."
But Bakhram didn't think so, just shook his head.
"We don't have that many troops now, and it's cautiously staying among the guards. A direct charge will result in heavy casualties. The Chapter Master ordered that the mission is just to delay, not to fight to the death."
Then Bakhram opened the communicator and said only one sentence.
"Outpost Seven, Broken Sword."
Then he turned to look at Nuros.
"We need to move the defense line back now and abandon this wall."
Nuros didn't say anything. After all, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. This was someone else's battle to command, so he nodded and called the other five to start retreating.
Soon, a Vulture Gunship roared in, ignoring the Gargoyles and Zoanthropes, and fired several missiles directly at the defense wall that was about to be breached by the Tyranids.
Boom—
After a not-so-violent explosion, the dying screams of Tyranid creatures rang out. Nuros looked at the spreading green living fire and said in a low voice:
"Phosphorus weapons."
"This weapon hasn't been seen for a long time."
One of the kill team members said, the mark on his shoulder indicating that he was from the Raptors Chapter.
"I've only seen it once, during the war against the Orks in Nukathesen, deployed by the Mechanicus."
The tumbling white phosphorus made the metal defense wall melt like ice cream encountering fire, and even the large groups of Tyranid creatures nearby, from Ripper to Carnifex, could only turn to ashes in the flames. The chitinous armor was not very effective against white phosphorus.
"It is said that the Watch Fortress also has some of this weapon in storage, but the amount is very small. Have you noticed that the arsenal of the Astral Knights is a bit abnormally abundant?"
The words of the warrior with the Angels of Vengeance Chapter mark on his shoulder aroused different attitudes from the other five.
"Of course it's abnormal, this is the Tenth Company. Guess what I saw? Their recruits are casually equipped with various plasma weapons, melta weapons, and power weapons. Hey, even the Fang isn't this rich."
