The Emperor’s Angel of Death

#2916 - Even an ant cannot shake a tree (Part 1)

"Ha, how pitiful."

Seeing the local armed forces being utterly defeated by the Genestealers, Cyre simply chuckled. He then rotated his arm, and the Vengeance rapid-firing cannon began to glow with a blue light. Immediately afterward, with a muffled sound of air being torn apart, a rain of plasma fire swept towards the Genestealer bunker, blasting it into burning fragments.

"Enemies are rapidly gathering."

Over the all-channel communication, the Teaching Knight was communicating with his attendants. Teaching Knights are responsible not only for managing the training and development of the family's attendants, but also for providing them with various psychological and ideological constructions to ensure that the neural connections between the attendant riders and the formal knights are more stable and to prevent these attendants from engaging in any behavior that would disgrace the honor of the knights.

"What bioforms?"

"Infantry units, suspected of carrying anti-vehicle weapons."

The second attendant replied.

"What are the numbers like?"

"Very large."

"Then this is an attack designed to slow down rather than destroy. The aliens cannot muster the force required. Do not slow down. Do not be distracted by false threats. Full speed ahead."

The gun line entered the range of enemy defensive fire. Various light and heavy weapons immediately poured down on these giants, but the local forces didn't have heavy weapons, and neither did the Genestealers. Their only means of assault was demolition. Because the Cult had absorbed a large number of miners, their demolition was very professional.

But demolishing a sheep pen defended by sheep is easy; facing a pride of lions is not so simple.

In response, the Knights began to fire, and various artillery fire rose from the ground into a wall of destruction.

Cyre kept a close watch on the movements on the ground. In the rugged trenches and bunkers, he could see a group of undulating figures, an assault team composed of clawed monsters. From his height, they looked like a swarm of ants gone mad because their anthill had been attacked.

"Right flank detachment, eliminate the enemy."

Receiving the Teaching Knight's order, Cyre and the other Punishers opened fire. Plasma, carrying a destructive wail, rained down on the running Genestealers.

Moments later, the Errant Knights followed up with a barrage of missiles fired from their missile launchers.

With a rapid, deep, and pulsating rhythm, the plasma's destructive flames cut through the alien formations like a scythe, the spreading energy blasting them into fragments. Then the missiles struck the ground in staggered waves, the high explosives sending up large clouds of dust and fragments of tissue.

When the flames died down a dozen seconds later, only scorched earth remained on the line where nearly a thousand Genestealers had gathered.

The Knights then advanced towards the gap, directly to the last trench line of the fortress. The Genestealers immediately organized an even larger force to try to counterattack. They brought out their limited number of vehicles, filled them with explosives, and had the most fanatical believers drive them, attempting to use these suicide trucks to stop the Knights' advance. Other Genestealers did everything they could to attract the Knights' attention, even using a crude weapon made from oil drums. This weapon was also an invention of the miners, stuffing a well-tied circular explosive package into an oil drum and launching it. The range was very short, and the accuracy was practically non-existent, but it was very powerful, more than enough and even very effective against the local army.

There was also a type of earthen rocket, made from iron pipes or even gas canisters, which could be launched in clusters or individually. It could even be launched with the most primitive ignition. The range was 800-2000 meters, equally primitive and inaccurate, but it was a guerrilla warfare weapon in mountainous and rugged terrain. During the early stages of their development, the Genestealer Cults often used small-scale harassment with this type of weapon to confuse and disorient the large noble armies.

The Golden Claw Cult has very strong subjective initiative and tactical flexibility, otherwise it would not have risen so quickly and gained the momentum to occupy the planet.

But these primitive weapons, against the towering steel knights, are almost like scratching an itch.

"Attendant detachment, remain vigilant."

The Teaching Knight's instructions appeared in the form of tactical icons in front of the Knights, in addition to the voice.

"See those dilapidated tractors? Concentrate fire on these enemies, then the vanguard will penetrate their lines. The Knights on both sides will converge towards the center. We will launch an attack on the enemy's fortress."

The squad responded immediately. Dense artillery fire struck those speeding modified vehicles, and then violent explosions blasted the entire vehicle into pieces. A solid wall of fire extended as the Knights' lances pointed, turning the rugged terrain into a burning, angry landscape.

The gun line advanced slowly and steadily, breaking through the last trench of the fortress. The Knights used a massacre of artillery and missiles to defeat those aliens. During this time, a few even tried to climb up the Knights' legs, but the attendants following closely behind the Knights killed them one by one. In such a storm of gunfire, the speed and agility advantages of the purebloods were completely useless, and their carapaces were not enough to resist small arms fire. The Knight Guards on both sides of the gun line also worked hard to extend the battle line to the left and right.

As for the local armies, they also followed closely behind the Knights, taking advantage of their power, but no one would pay attention to their thoughts.

In the silhouettes brought by their own explosions, the Knights strode across the battlefield, crossing the last outer moat of the fortress. At this time, another gun line also approached the fortress. The artillery and rocket fire from the fortress became more and more dense. The Genestealers knew that their end was coming. They could not resist the wrath of humanity, but the bewitchment from the alien genes made them fight to the death, never surrendering.

Faced with the stubbornly resisting fortress, the Master Knight raised his right arm and aimed the deadly laser destructor at a section of the protective wall, where a group of Genestealers stood, hiding behind the wall, shooting outwards with various weapons in their hands.

The laser destructor is essentially a short-range pulse laser weapon based on a large built-in capacitor shrine. When it is fired, it greatly concentrates the energy of the reactor, and then, when it reaches its peak, it pours out through the polarity-sanctified circuit, forming a continuously enhanced pulse, and generating an extremely amazing pulse laser beam to destroy the target when it reaches its maximum peak. The power of this laser pulse is so terrible that even the leg armor of a common Titan cannot resist it, let alone various fortifications.

After a few seconds of charging, the Master Knight's laser destructor emitted a dazzling light, like a lit sun.

With a piercing shriek, the laser cannon fired, focusing the energy transmitted by the reactor through the weapon's crystal, turning it into a beam of catastrophically intense light, scorching a trench in the fortress's giant rock-stacked protective wall and slashing all the way down.
