Beneath the gray sky, verdant sea waves crashed against the beach, hissing as they receded, revealing shimmering isles of mucus-covered shells. In the distance, dense coastal vegetation swayed restlessly with the tide. The air was thick with a unique, humid scent. Abundant foliage spilled over from the dense forests, stretching towards the edge of the continent, tree trunks overlooking the waves, branches spreading out, roots branching from the edge, stirring up strings of bubbles in the backwash, as if the inland trees were pushing the outer ones, urging them ever closer to the land, reaching farther afield.
This was proof enough that it had once been a vibrant world, not overly polluted, the rustling of branches and the susurrus of leaves sounding like the slow conversation of some unimaginably ancient beings.
Ivan tried to understand their song, melodies strangely familiar, as if a long series of descending tones hinted at some incomprehensible metaphor.
As a warrior raised on a feral world, he possessed a natural affinity for nature.
"This is a beautiful world, not yet completely tainted by the blind ambition of the apes."
He said softly, tugging at his collar to allow the cool sea breeze to flow into the gaps in his armor, then he pulled his mount alongside another Dragon Knight, Ifrøyeia.
The other’s mount was a new creature cultivated by the Druids, or rather, the last vestige of an ancient psychic war beast found in some feral kingdom, reborn through further processing and optimization as a 'Forest Dragon'. It was capable of flight, but even more swift on land, possessing thick chitinous armor and sharp spines, its body containing organs that generated neurotoxins and hemorrhagic toxins, its venom capable of corroding various metals.
The two Dragon Knights sat in their saddles, watching groups of warriors riding bipedal carnosaurs emerge from the invisible Vampire Raiders and step onto the beach. They wore wraithbone armor, yet unlike Aspect Warriors, they displayed clear feral kingdom characteristics, such as beast skulls adorning their helmets, and massive fangs decorating their wrists and shoulders.
The support operation was proceeding smoothly. Warboss Snagrod's offensive was still expanding, his main fleet attacking other planets and outposts, allowing the Craftworld's reinforcement fleet to quickly tear through the Ork defenses in orbit of Ryne and deploy landing forces before the Warboss could react. These elegant flyers even encountered an Ork air wing while breaking through the atmosphere, which they annihilated before they even knew what was happening, then landed on the coast, which was more concealed and safer.
Following the infantry were various vehicles, such as Hornet attack skimmers and Falcon tanks, followed by gliding Pteraxii squadrons. The two Dragon armies, totaling two thousand warriors from the Kingdoms of Lyrnae and Lyraalsus, were the main force of this reinforcement, along with a Craftworld infantry company and a flyer squadron.
The numbers weren't large, but they should be sufficient for the scale of this war.
"Hah, as long as the apes exist, it's just a tainted world. Such a world shouldn't be occupied by such a crude race."
Ivan raised an eyebrow slightly. He knew that the Kingdom of Lyrnae had been invaded by human renegades, causing many deaths and injuries, so Ifrøyeia's perception of humans had always been very poor, but their mission this time was precisely to save humans, so his expression hadn't been good along the way.
At this moment, a figure floated from the ground into the air, green streamers gently flapping against bone-white armor, the helmet carved into a deathly visage, making him look like a somber specter, holding a long prism rifle in his hand.
A Shadow Spectres Autarch, also the commander of this infantry company. He was originally a Warsmith, but after Phoenix Lord Karis established a shrine in the Craftworld, he turned to cultivating the path of the Shadow Spectres, but this didn't affect his rank of Captain in the infantry.
Ivan took the lead in greeting him.
"Greetings, Captain Klyche."
The other responded in a wavering tone:
"General Ivan, General Ifrøyeia, according to the plan, we will advance towards the mountain range on the west side, reach the strongholds where humans are still resisting, and establish a blocking line in the mountains, restricting the Orks' invasion route to the narrow valley on the west side. This way, the humans' long-range artillery and air forces will be able to inflict huge casualties on them, enough to increase the pace of their invasion. This is a limited support operation. We must prioritize the lives of our warriors, and then save these humans who have been battered by the Orks."
Ivan thought for a moment and said:
"Wouldn't it be better to directly decapitate the Ork Warboss?"
The other shook his head.
"Impractical. The Orks aren't as simple as you think. I've participated in dozens of wars against the Orks. These beasts aren't as stupid as they look. In fact, the success rate of decapitating an Ork Warboss isn't high, and the price paid is also high. We don't need to take such a risk. The goal of this operation isn't difficult."
Ifrøyeia also spoke up:
"The crude apes aren't worth wasting our warriors' precious lives."
Ivan was speechless and could only smile awkwardly.
"The battle plan has been communicated to every warrior. The two of you are responsible for your respective areas and directions."
WAAAAAGH!!!!
Suddenly, a faint roar came from the distance, easily drowned out by the wind, but the Eldar's keen senses could easily capture it.
"These Orks are very excited. Their psychic sparks are restless and fervent. In this state, they will be extremely dangerous. Everyone must not be careless."
The Eldar didn't need complex equipment to transmit information. Captain Klyche's voice was transmitted to the minds of every Eldar warrior through the psychic network.
Then the team began to accelerate, quickly penetrating into the forest of the mountains.
Away from the coolness of the sea breeze, the heat also increased, the Orks seemed to be igniting the entire planet, even the air became viscous, mixed with the smell of fallen leaf humus, like syrup.
When entering the mid-section of the mountains, they could look up and see the destroyed Chapter Monastery of the Crimson Fists.
The collapse of the surrounding mountains showed how violent the explosion was at that time.
"Enemies are here."
Suddenly, a soft female voice sounded in Ivan's mind, and he immediately turned his head to look at the undulating ridge on the right. Not only him, but everyone else did the same.
At the same time, he also noticed the anomaly in the forest, which was silence.
Apart from the big trees and undergrowth, the forest seemed to be empty. There were no foraging animals on the ground, nor were there birds jumping and disturbing the canopy, nor were there small animals climbing up and down the trunks.
This was a completely green space, with matching emblems hanging in competition, a kingdom with layers of emerald green, but too quiet.
