The Emperor’s Angel of Death

#3299 - Simulation War (Part 1)

Chapter 3303: Simulation Battle (Part 1)

"The battle plan can be manually specified."

"All fleets are rushing to their formations."

The Minotaur Chapter Master used the unfamiliar system to begin deploying the fleet. This machine was indeed exceptionally convenient; many complex commands could be executed simply by drawing a line with his hand. Although the ships had a "reaction" time setting, it was still much easier than using communications to command.

He chose to deploy the fleet at the far point of the star system, just like the Navy's initial plan. This was a very classic defensive counterattack arrangement.

Suddenly, Asterion heard a piercing alarm, followed by a string of garbled characters appearing before his eyes. He had no idea what was happening, but the mechanical voice reminded him.

"The star system has experienced an abnormal solar flare. All communication and detection devices are失效, and defensive facilities cannot be controlled."

"What! This is cheating!"

"Tactical explanation: This flare was artificially activated."

"Is there a backup system?"

"A backup system exists."

"Activate it."

In an instant, the previously static star chart began to move, revealing a scene that shocked Asterion: all of Amara Prime's defensive facilities had been destroyed, reduced to debris in orbit.

A black fleet appeared near the capital planet. The machine even simulated the effects of orbital bombardment on the planet's surface.

"Fleet, turn and form a trapezoidal formation, moving closer to Amara Prime."

Soon, the massive Imperial fleet disengaged from its berths and began to approach Amara Prime. However, even with all "new ships," the different ship speeds meant the formation's speed was very slow in order to maintain its shape.

Facing the slow-moving Imperial fleet, the Necron warships formed a perfect crescent formation, with two massive Tomb Ships in the center and Reaper and Raider ships deployed in a loose formation on the flanks.

This was a very obvious offensive formation, looking as if it wanted to swallow its opponent in one gulp.

Considering the difference in numbers, this was somewhat contemptuous.

Asterion clenched his fist but remained calm and made his judgment. He remembered the astonishing stats he had just seen for the Necron ships, so he didn't choose to act blindly. Instead, he adopted a standard gunnery formation and deployed the Minotaur Chapter fleet in the second echelon behind the main battle line.

His idea was that if Sorshyan wanted to disrupt the battle by using ship maneuverability, then the battle barges, ready and waiting, could launch a fatal blow against the two massive Tomb Ships after the battle line was broken, or they could choose to intercept any invading forces and use numbers to wear down the enemy.

The Necron Overlord, played by Sorshyan, didn't seem to have any special tactics either; he just charged straight ahead, but his speed was very high. Asterion could clearly see the comparison between the speeds of the two sides' ships.

The relative speed between the two sides was at least twice as fast.

As the distance between them closed, Asterion planned to take advantage of his numerical superiority and launch a full, saturated torpedo and missile attack on the enemy.

Upon receiving the order, the destroyers, frigates, and cruisers, distributed on the flanks and above and below the fleet's main force and sailing in dense formations, moved into firing positions. Then, hundreds of torpedoes' trajectories could be seen on the star chart. This calculation, accurate to each piece of ammunition, made Asterion doubt the machine for the first time.

This was definitely not the level of calculation that an Imperial cogitator could achieve. Although he didn't understand technology very well, he could roughly imagine how vast and complex the data flow under the image was.

In fact, this tactical simulator did indeed have not only the technology of the Leagues of Kin, because it involved very complex and huge data simulation and calculation, especially to quantify the parameters of energy weapons and void shields and a series of equipment. The Leagues of Kin's equipment could not do this, but Sorshyan brought the Omnissiah Collective with him this time for insurance purposes.

Of course, Sorshyan's original intention in carrying the Omnissiah Collective was to provide guidance for war data. The existing Imperial cogitators and detection systems simply could not effectively capture and calculate the movement trajectory and direction of Necron warships, which led to extremely low artillery hit rates. Sorshyan noticed this in the last Battle of Ek'Woria. According to the post-battle data statistics, the hit rate of the Chapter and Adeptus Mechanicus fleets against enemy ships was only 8.93% at a distance of 400,000 kilometers, and only a pitiful 2.16% at a distance of 1 million kilometers. One would think they were using black powder weapons to bombard the enemy.

There were many reasons for this result. The enemy ships' high speed and various jamming devices were all causes, but the Imperial ships' equipment performance not keeping up was also a fact. It was difficult to weaken the enemy, so the best way was to strengthen oneself. Using new fire control and scanning devices with stronger anti-interference capabilities was one point, and improving the cogitator was another point, but the cogitator's foundation was not very good in the first place. No matter how much it was modified, it was still just carving flowers on mud, and this problem was the most difficult to solve. Let alone an entire fleet, just correcting and calculating all the weapons on the Randaal was a terrifying job, so Sorshyan thought of the Men of Iron.

In particular, the Omnissiah Collective itself was good at data fields, so it was very suitable for it to do this job. It was just that Sorshyan had always been uneasy about it, but after getting a device from Gellan before leaving the Royal Court, he had an insurance policy that would allow the Omnissiah Collective to enter the workforce.

However, in non-combat times, it would also perform some minor tasks, such as being responsible for this tactical simulator.

"What!?"

Just as Asterion was expecting this wave of torpedo and missile attacks to disrupt the enemy's formation or even destroy some of its ships, the small icons representing the torpedoes and missiles on the star chart quickly disappeared.

"This is cheating!"

The Minotaur Chapter Master roared angrily and then swiped open the information panel. There were only lines of bright red warnings on it:

The enemy is emitting a Class β electromagnetic wave interference signal—

The enemy is emitting a Class β particle radiation interference signal—

The enemy is emitting a Class γ particle radiation interference signal—

There was not much time left for him to be shocked. The Necron ships were speeding towards the human fleet like a giant scythe, greedily craving life.

Asterion immediately adjusted the battle line, but the human ships were like slow snails compared to the Necron ships. By the time he adjusted, green lightning had woven a net of death on the star chart, shattering the void shields and cruelly tearing open the ships within with ease. At a certain moment, the Chapter Master's eardrums were filled with countless piercing alarms. He could even hear calls, cries for help, and roars from all directions, as if he were really on that doomed bridge, giving him a sense of illusory reality.
