The Emperor’s Angel of Death
#3312 - Storm of Amalur (IV)
"Fire!"
The heavy machine guns roared first, tracer bullets streaking across the dark firing range, hitting the metal skeletons and erupting in sparks. Some staggered, while others were struck in the neck and joints, collapsing in a heap.
But their pace didn't slow in the slightest. Still unhurried, still despair-inducing.
"Exterminate the xenos!"
The company commander also began to roar. Ur pulled the trigger, sending laser fire towards the enemy's head, but at this distance, headshots weren't easy. His laser struck an enemy in the chest, only burning a black mark.

That was the terrible thing about the enemy. Weapons that could easily kill humans were not fatal to them, requiring multiple consecutive shots to potentially destroy them.
Bang, bang, bang! The roar of the autocannons was as shocking as ever. They were considered the most suitable weapon against the xenos known as Necrons. Autocannons carrying armor-piercing rounds could easily shatter their infantry.
Just as Ur covered his head and sobbed, black ghost arks swept overhead, dropping their deadly cargo. At the same time, many buzzing, man-sized, deadly metal insects began to cover the area above the position. These units were marked as "scarabs" in the combat manual and considered low-threat targets.

He immediately retracted his arm, twisted his rifle, and smashed the struggling enemy's head with the butt of his gun.
But that simply wasn't the case!
"Charge!"
By the time the soldiers charging with bayonets reached the Necron line, their numbers had dwindled to less than two-thirds. Those in the front were all turned to ash by gauss fire.
Immediately after, two more gauss beams pierced the large iron barrel filled with debris that he was using as cover.
However, habit didn't mean the situation would improve, only that fear had turned into despair. No matter how hard they tried, they were only barely holding back the Necron tide, not even daring to stop their barrage, firing until their gun barrels turned red and their batteries overheated.
Now, not even the cover could hold up, let alone people.
Their weapons were like tickling the enemy, but when the enemy's weapons hit them, it was basically instant death, without even time to scream.
Ur also used a roar to embolden himself. He dodged the bloody blade on the enemy's rifle and then swiftly thrust his bayonet into the will-o'-the-wisp in its eye socket. The enemy's body immediately trembled, and the already faint flame in its eyes began to dim.
These mechanical constructs had invisible anti-gravity wings, moved extremely fast, could easily cut apart armored vehicles with cutting beams, and slice open infantry with blade-like limbs and charged stingers.
Whooshโ
Instead, the living were constantly screaming. Just as Ur installed a new battery, he felt a 'pop' above his head to the left. The searing metal fragments burned him, causing him to scream and fall to the ground.
Their first position was lost because of these things suddenly appearing. Suddenly, a large hand grabbed Ur and lifted him up.
The bravest soldiers screamed, but their counterattack was drowned out by the enemy's volley.
The company commander roared at him. Ur quickly attached the bayonet to the muzzle.
Another green beam flashed over Ur's head, scaring him into quickly retreating behind cover. Then, he fumbled to remove the already hot battery, searching his body for a new one.
"Kill! Kill!"
In the dense rain of lasers and bullets, Necron Warriors were constantly blasted apart, turning into spiraling fragments. But more Necrons would immediately take their place, and even more began to climb out of the broken ground, reassembling their metal bodies.
"Xenos, prepare to die!"
Suddenly, some ash fell on him, followed by a corpse missing everything above the waist slamming down beside his feet.
"Boy! Keep fighting! Fight if you don't want to die right now! The enemy is coming! Fix bayonets!"
When they charged to within fifty paces of the enemy, the soldiers' lasguns fired in unison again. The Necrons at the very front of the formation were neatly knocked down, displaying a strange, boneless limpness.
The officer roared. Every soldier roared out their war cry. They leaped out of their cover and trenches, charging up the shallow slope towards the Necrons who had already set foot on the position.
In the rear, Leman Russ tanks rumbled forward, accompanied by the roar of Chimera armored vehiclesโits machine gun swept towards the scarabs above the position. After stopping, the tank fired, shells whistling through the air, blasting many Necrons away.
There was nothing more terrifying than an enemy that could be resurrected after death, although the concept of "death" might not exist for these machines. Still, the scene of painstakingly defeating an opponent, only to have them immediately get back up, was enough to cause a breakdown. Initially, many soldiers were frightened and even tried to run away, resulting in hundreds being shot down before things stabilized. By now, they were even used to it.
What followed was melee combat, and at least in this aspect, humans had a slight advantage.
Although these Necron infantry were relatively accurate shooters, they moved relatively slowly and had slow reaction speeds. Although their bodies were sturdy, they still had weaknesses. All the Amara garrison troops had been practicing bayonet and close combat techniques for the past few months, which came into play at this time.
Extreme despair and fear instead filled the soldiers with rage. They swung their rifles, stabbing at the enemy's neck or knee joints, or accurately stabbing into their eye sockets, stirring up the debris inside. Necrons easily fell when subjected to this kind of attack. At this time, the always-silent Necron Warriors would emit a unique electronic scream, a chilling wail that seemed to be a bizarre imitation of the pain of the living.
"Joe is dead!"
"Roy is dead too!"
The heavy blow caused the Necron to lose its balance and fall. Ur stepped on its chest and stabbed his bayonet into the other eye socket.
With a flash of sparks, the Necron stopped trembling and moving.
Ur raised his head, panting heavily. The battlefield had descended into complete chaos. Not only their company but other companies had also launched counterattacks. This was the most effective tactic in previous defenses. The living wrestled with mechanical undead in the ruins, and beams and explosions constantly lit up the hellish battlefield.
Not only the soldiers, but on the right side of the battlefield, a group of strangely dressed, even bare-chested people roared as they charged out.
The Imperium's hive cities never only had powerless civilians. In the complex streets, in the vast areas where order and law were difficult to reach, groups that revered violence and made a living from it were also bred. In the past, they were disruptors of security and order, but when their homeland was invaded, they were merely Amara natives who were born and raised there, humans defending their faith and survival.
