The Emperor’s Angel of Death
#3323 - The Rage of Orpheus (VI)
"A great battlefield."
Taking a deep breath, Wenner left the noisy small cogitator and stepped out of the command post. Directly above him was the wreckage of the boarding craft that had pierced the ship's hull. It was firmly lodged in the enemy's hull, and even sprayed out a lot of reinforcing material to seal the gap. The Necron tomb ship was much safer inside than imagined. Although there was no oxygen and the temperature was low, it had its own gravity.
The entire area was unusually wide. Huge landing capsules were scattered everywhere, and the wreckage of Necrons that had been destroyed and not yet cleaned up could be seen everywhere. Human corpses were piled together. Many companies and platoons had just finished organizing and gathering, while others were struggling to retrieve equipment and vehicles from the damaged landing capsules. The Krieg side was generally quiet, but one area was very noisy.
The shouts of officers, the loud chanting of priests, the cursing of soldiers, and the clanging of various impacts.
In addition to the Krieg regiment, the Orpheus Death Korps, a newly formed force, also participated in the boarding action.
This regiment was also elite in a sense, because they were all carefully selected from the Orpheus defense force. However, in the eyes of the Krieg officers, they were probably only slightly better than those militias.
Only a tiny bit.
Their main color scheme was red and black, representing their determination to die without life, and they also wore a black ribbon on their helmets or shoulders, with slogans of revenge written on it.
However, during several training sessions, they did not get along well with the Krieg, because they were used to expressing their determination with roars and loud prayers, which seemed a bit noisy to the Krieg. The key point was that they often ridiculed the Krieg for having some similarities with the aliens they were going to kill.
But on the whole, the two sides were only in a stage of incompatibility.
"Let them handle it themselves."
Wenner just said this, and grabbed the command sword on the side.
"I'll go take a look at the 17th line regiment direction."
But before he could summon his guards, several shadows quietly emerged from the darkness above him. The ghastly green light indicated that the attackers had locked onto their target.
Suddenly, a piercing alarm sounded around Wenner. This was an experimental device that Sorshyan had asked him to carry, invented by a sage from the Grave Diggers organization. It could detect phase energy at close range, so as to discover those Necron assassins who were quietly approaching. However, this device was large, about the size of a motorcycle, so its practicality remained to be verified. Sorshyan asked Wenner to bring it.
Hearing the alarm, the surrounding Krieg guards immediately swarmed over, and the officers immediately surrounded their marshal, drawing chainswords and pistols.
"Enemies nearby!"
But they looked left and right, and found nothing unusual, until one person vigilantly looked up.
"Above!"
Gauss beams poured down. Fortunately, an officer had pushed Wenner away in advance, and then several people were directly turned into ashes.
Three tomb stalkers, discovering that the target was still alive, immediately swooped down, waving their claws to tear Wenner into pieces.
"Protect the Marshal!"
The officers shouted loudly, while firing with their pistols, and the guards rushed towards these constructs regardless of their lives. The tanks in the distance turned their turrets, but were unable to fire because there were too many people around.
Wenner was carried back to the command post, and a tomb wraith rushed over, cutting the officer who tried to block the entrance into several pieces, and then slammed into the command post with force, making a heavy echo. But fortunately, the door of the command post was not large, and it could not squeeze in. So it shot at the command post with a gauss flayer, and the officers chose to use their bodies to resist the deadly rays in order to protect Wenner.
Watching the officers turn into ashes one by one, Wenner drew his power sword.
"Alien scum! Want my life! You are not qualified!"
"Marshal! Don't be impulsive!"
When Wenner was about to rush up, the person next to him quickly grabbed him and dragged him behind the cogitator.
Crack!
An ominous sound rang out. The tomb wraith cut a gap with the gauss flayer, and half of its body had squeezed in. The sharp claws frantically scratched everything around it.
Wenner had never thought that he would die before reaching the front line, but in the current situation, I'm afraid—
Suddenly, the crazy tomb wraith made a piercing noise, its body shook violently, and then suddenly shrank back. Immediately afterwards, Wenner heard a burst of cheers.
He stood up from behind the cogitator, which had been riddled with holes, and walked out, stepping on the ashes all over the ground. He saw that the crazy alien machine had collapsed on the ground, its body was divided into several sections. A tall warrior wearing an aquila helmet pulled two swords from its head, bringing up a puff of living metal.
The other two tomb wraiths had also become wreckage. Their bodies were riddled with holes, all traces of melta and plasma bombardment. Nearby was a group of silver-gray giants.
He then realized that the Star Knights had arrived.
"Marshal Wenner, are you alright?"
A gentle voice made him turn around. The other party was wearing Star Knight armor, but there were no company or rank markings. He was wearing a helmet and could not see his true face.
"I am Saul, the sword instructor of the Star Knights, leading the company to assist in attacking the enemy's center."
Wenner nodded.
"Thank you for your assistance. The various fronts are advancing steadily now, but the internal structure of the enemy ship is too complex and unfamiliar. Pathfinder servo skulls often cannot survive for too long, so the key road leading to the enemy's command center cannot be determined. But according to the enemy ship's structure, the overall direction has not changed."
"The enemy already knows your location, perhaps you should change the location of the command post. I will send some warriors to protect you."
Wenner shook his head.
"I want to go to the front line, Lord Saul. You are more suitable to be the commander than me."
Saul had also heard about Wenner's situation from Sorshyan. He didn't say much, just nodded.
"Alright, your command on the front line can speed up the advance, but I will still send someone to protect you, please don't mind. This is also the order of the chapter master, I want to bring you back safely."
Wenner turned around and glanced at the wreckage all over the ground, many of which were his close soldiers and old buddies who had followed him for many years. Then he didn't say a word, just gave Saul a salute, and led the remaining people to the front line with the assembled tank regiment.
Looking at his back, Amnak walked to Saul's side and said softly:
"For him, death in battle is a kind of romance in a sense?"
"People should live greatly and die greatly."
"Ha, what do you say now?"
"You take a part of the people to assist the Orpheus Death Korps. This ship is crescent-shaped, and the several landing points are too far apart. It is best to advance together to share the enemy's forces."
"I understand, then I'll leave this to you."
