The Emperor’s Angel of Death

#3406 - Blood-stained Steel Teeth (Part 3)

"You mean you want to leave?"

The Ghost Fire boss furrowed his scarred, wide face, rubbing his temples incessantly. Ladakrala could tell he was pondering, his expression twisted in pain.

Finally, the Ghost Fire leader's expression relaxed, and he nodded, making a decision.

"What are you gonna do?"

"Do you know any mechanics who can get their hands on a ship?"

"Umm"

"Boss!"

Just then, a Ghost Fire kid rushed in, but he only managed to utter a single word before a motorcycle crashed through the wall with a deafening roar, pinning him to the ground with a scream.

The sudden turn of events immediately put both green-skinned leaders on edge, followed by heavy footsteps. Then, a warrior in heavy, silver-gray Terminator armor strode in, a massive power axe crackling with electricity in his hand, his face contorted in a grin where it wasn't covered by his helmet.

"This trap finally caught you two stinky fish."

Although they didn't understand what this shrimp was saying, both green-skinned bosses instinctively felt the threat emanating from him.

The Ghost Fire boss drew his gun and fired instantly, but he wasn't fast enough. The combi-bolter in Tek's hand was already roaring, and the howling bolt rounds immediately turned the boss into a pile of rotten meat.

"WAAAAAGH!!!"

The enraged Ladakrala charged straight at him, his power axe aimed at the enemy.

With a clang, the power axe collided violently with the power hammer. Ladakrala staggered backward, blood spurting from his wrist.

He gaped in astonishment, encountering such a terrifying opponent in terms of strength for the first time. But before he could attack again, a tremendous force slammed into his face.

In bewilderment, his world began to spin, and he saw his pet stomped into a bloody mess like a popped balloon.

"Sergeant."

Just as Tek washed the alien gore from the bottom of his boot on the ground, two veterans wielding plasma guns and meltaguns walked in.

"The enemy has been routed."

"Good, those two bosses have been dealt with too."

Tek walked out of the hall. The fortress was now filled with the intense roar of bolters and the whine of jump packs. The attacking Orks never imagined that this seemingly easy target was actually a death trap. The sudden appearance of the Space Marines caught the Orks, who were gleefully dismantling the Adeptus Mechanicus fortress, completely off guard. They didn't even know that such grim reapers had arrived on the planet.

In addition to the Space Marines, Catachan Devils in armed buggies were ramming through the Ork hordes. Not only were the weapons on the roofs firing madly, but even the rears of the vehicles and the sides of the driver's cabs were swarming with tough guys wielding heavy machine guns. They had been holding back for too long, constantly being chased by the Orks, and were therefore particularly ferocious.

It should be noted that after the fall of Proctus, the Catachan Devils could be said to have turned the tide, relying on the complex forest and jungle terrain of the Uranian continent to resist wave after wave of unstoppable Ork attacks, sheltering a large number of Imperial armed forces and refugees who had retreated from other continents, thereby preserving the hope of a counterattack. However, in this process, they had to face enemies hundreds of times their number. No matter how foolish the Orks seemed on the surface, their ability to adapt to the battlefield was undoubtedly very strong. Even in their own forest home, the Catachans faced increasing pressure and greater sacrifices, while the Adeptus Mechanicus's Protector Guard couldn't help at all, only knowing how to defend their strongholds and fortresses, as if that would win the war.

This was also the biggest problem on the Proctus battlefield. The defenders had no way to coordinate uniformly. The Adeptus Mechanicus and the Astra Militarum fought their own battles, filled with contradictions from the beginning. After defeats on various battlefields, the contradictions between the two sides not only did not ease but continued to intensify. The Adeptus Mechanicus accused the Astra Militarum of not having the determination and courage to defend to the death, retreating again and again, leading to the fall of many important cities and industrial areas, while the Astra Militarum accused the Adeptus Mechanicus of being selfish and ignoring requests for assistance from the Astra Militarum, even repeatedly assigning them suicidal missions, and neglecting residential areas, focusing all their forces on the defense of industrial facilities.

Since it was a world belonging to the Adeptus Mechanicus, the planet did not have an Imperial Governor, but only a Fabricator Locum. However, due to the complex administrative system of the Imperium, the Departmento Munitorum had never recognized the Fabricator Locum as having the wartime supreme command authority similar to that of a Governor since the High Lords of Terra established it, and the Adeptus Mechanicus was even less likely to accept the command of an Astra Militarum officer. The dispute over command authority accompanied the entire war, which was also an important reason for the collapse of the Proctus battlefield.

The arrival of the Space Marines solved this problem well. As the high-level armed forces of the Imperium, the Chapter Master or Captain of the Space Marines, like the Inquisitor, had the highest arbitration power when disputes arose over campaign command.

Therefore, under the coordination of the Space Marines, the Catachan Devils finally no longer had to defend their lines, but were able to engage in the attacks that they were better at and preferred.

Nearly ten thousand Catachan Devils from three regiments, with extreme hatred for the Orks, struck the enemies surrounding the fortress like iron fists. All of their limited armored forces were committed to the battle. Although they had to face a vast Ork group estimated to be over three hundred thousand, they were fearless and full of fighting spirit.

But what was deadly besides the courage and strength of the Catachan Devils was the screaming reapers in the sky.

Because there was always the threat of Ork fleets in the system, the Space Knights' strike fleet did not stay long after arriving in the planet's orbit, dropping off the landing force and immediately heading to the edge of the system to prevent being caught off guard by the enemy and attracting the enemy's fleet to other directions. This meant that the ground forces had no support from orbit. Fortunately, the Space Knights had a strong air support force. More than one hundred gunships and vehicles came to the planet's surface with the three companies, including a unique ground support squadron [Storm Wing] composed of 40 Storm Talons and 20 Stormravens. After unloading the warriors of the Ninth Company they carried, they began to pour down a rain of burning death on the Orks' heads, focusing on destroying the threatening Deff Dreads and Gorkanauts/Morkanauts.

It just so happened that the Orks on the Proctus Prime had almost no air force at this time. Since the air forces of the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Astra Militarum had been almost completely wiped out, the Dakkajets had nothing to fight, so they followed the Warbosses to other more fun battlefields. Only a small number of Mekboy's private air forces remained on the planet. Their numbers were too small to fight against the Space Knights' Stormhawk Interceptor squadrons.

"Captain Tyrsak."

When the Ninth Company Captain of the Space Knights entered the Adeptus Mechanicus fortress that had begun to clean up the mess, a Dominus also emerged from the underground bunker and greeted him.
