Chapter 4: Right to speak

It’s a pity that her original husband was in the bedroom. She didn’t dare to do anything unusual, so she could only suppress her thoughts and wait for her meal with a sigh.

The children got up one after another, and Zhulan was deliberately hiding. She didn’t know how to interact with them, so she might as well watch from a distance.

Li’s breakfast was ready. Zhulan sat in the original owner’s seat with a wooden face. There were two tables, one for men and one for women. The only two dishes were pickles and radish soup. At the women’s table, she had to share the staple food, and she was doubtful of how she, who doesn’t know how to farm, can survive in the ancient countryside.

Thinking about it this way, she also feels that it is not bad to be a mother-in-law, at least someone will serve her and she had the absolute right to speak.

The children stared at the meagre rice porridge, Zhulan sighed, and gave each a bowl. Eating rice was a luxury in this era.

The Eldest at the table next door, Zhou Changli frowned, “Mother, why didn’t father get up? Is he not feeling well?”

Only then did Zhulan remember that the original husband had never left the room, so she frowned, and it was impossible for her to see it, and she has not yet figured out how to get along with the original husband, ” Lǎodà, (1) go and have a look!”

Zhou Changli responded, “Ok!”

Zhulan was holding the bowl and became more and more out of appetite. From what she remembered to what she saw, it was impossible to reconcile. In ancient times with strict hierarchies and strange environments, she really didn’t know how to live. She took a sip of rice porridge, not to mention the green and pollution-free taste. It’s really good, but she didn’t have much appetite again.

Soon, Zhou Changli came back, “Mother, father is not feeling well. So he will lie down for a while.”

Zhulan breathed a sigh of relief. It was nice not to have to contact her original husband. She imitated the tone of the original owner, “Okay, hurry up and eat. After you finish eating, those who have to go to fields, go there and those who have to go to school, go to school.”

Others have no objection either. In the countryside, it’s normal to feel sick and have a little cold, and it’s normal.

For breakfast, Zhulan drank a bowl of porridge, thinking that she had little appetite.

Li shi looked at the corn cake in front of her mother-in-law eagerly, and said with joy, “Mother, you won’t eat it?”

Zhulan twitched the corners of her mouth, her eyes seemed to be staring at the meat, and she felt the second daughter-in-law, Zhao Shi’s resentment, but her stomach was even more uncomfortable, “Eat, eat, see the sky staring at the food, I will keep it if I don’t eat it, don’t worry about it.”

Li shi closed her mouth, and Zhao shi also withdrew her gaze.

Zhulan, “…”

This day was really not over!

Out of sight and out of mind, she got off the table with a cold face and didn’t go back to the house. She sat by the well and watched breakfast in the hall. Zhao tidied up the table, and her irritable heart was relieved. At least she didn’t have to work, didn’t she?

Zhulan sat there the whole time. The eldest took the second child to the field, and the youngest two went to school. The courtyard was quiet, and she sat still.

“Mother, what’s the matter with you? Are you uncomfortable?”

Zhou Xuehan observed her mother all morning. The mother who used to be full of energy had been sighing this morning, and she was always in a daze. It was weird. She never dared to step forward. Listening to the whispered discussions between the two sisters-in-law, she couldn’t help but ask.

Zhulan returned to her senses. She was continuing to sort out the memories in her mind just now. She saw that the little girl was indeed well-grown. Her hair was kept up, tied in a bun, and she had a little baby fat face with big blinking eyes. It was so cute.

However, Zhulan’s heart was very complicated, and she beckoned, “Mother is thinking about something, it’s not uncomfortable, come to my mother’s side.”

Zhou Xuehan responded crisply, with a cheerful tone, “Yes.”

Zhulan wasn’t so happy anymore. She thought that she had travelled through parallel time and space, so she was in a dynasty she had never heard of it. She did not expect to organize her memory and find that she was fashionable and became a book-wearer! (2)

1. The eldest son2. It means that she didn’t transmigrate to a parallel world but into a book world.
