The King Alpha's Mate

Chapter 41 - The First Kill

*Carmela's POV*

Being stubborn is something I felt like doing tonight. I am done with just sitting back while Jack my King, is busy protecting the pack.

Knowing I couldn't go out of the main entrance without the wolf guards noticing me, I turned towards the big balcony.

The cold crisp of air suddenly cools my skin when I opened the double doors to see the surroundings outside.

Sniffing the air, I noticed the smell of two wolf guards nearby, I perk my ears and listened carefully. They were engrossed in something that they were talking about. I took slow steps, stopping closely on the iron railings. Looking up at the sky, I took a deep breath watching as the moon hides behind the dark gray clouds, a feeling of uneasiness is hiding deep inside my heart.

But I know I would be alright, the Moon Goddess is at my side guiding me as the new Queen Luna of the Royal Pack..

I didn't have to shift my entire body for a jump anymore, I just needed the paws in my hands and feet. With that, I leaped from the balcony of our chambers. Then i landed with a soft thud in the bed of green grass on Palace grounds.

I held my breath when the two wolf guards had stopped talking, and my bare paws flat on the ground. It was for a few seconds that they just stood still and listened if there is something unusual in the air, but they didn't hear anything from me again. After a while I heard them both laugh and continued in their conversation, so I continued with my journey as well.

To go outside the huge thick walls of the Palace would be the next challenge I have to face, if I didn't want to go out properly in the main gates.

Even if the other Pack Warriors was busy outside the Palace, still there are warrior guards watching the gates. I sighed and looked at the huge trunk of an old tree near the thick walls.

I recognized it as a huge bristle cone pine. I admired how it stood still proudly, but staring at it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand. I walked near the tree and inhaled the scent of it's thick leaves that slowly brushes each other in every blow of the wind. It was strange how I couldn't keep my eyes away.

If I could climb the trunk up to the end of the tree's length, then i could leap really high to reach the top of the thick wall. My chance is slim but i think i could pull this off with a determined soul.

I stared up and noticed how the tree have branches so big and thick, this must be around the Palace for more than a hundred years old.

I was about to start climbing when the branches shook and a shadow hidden between those leaves formed.

"Busy night my Luna Queen?".

My hands stopped at the trunk of the tree, my eyes widened and I had to take a deep breath to calm my nerves.

"Freyah!?

I blinked twice doubting if I am just imagining things but looking at how the branch of the tree move in her every step, I immediately knew this is real and she's expecting for me.

She stopped on the lowest branch of the big old tree and stared at me with his red eyes and worn out clothes. Her hair is disheveled in the most untidy way and her skin is the palest white against the darkness of the night.

"None other my Queen". With a smirk her voice sounded sarcastic and challenging, which made me raised an eyebrow and gritted my teeth.

"So I heard you had escaped from the jails of the Palace. Perhaps you are not wise enough to flee farther, seeing that you were just here hiding among the branches of an old bristle con pine."

"Yes I am not wise enough to go out there and ran for my life because what I really need right now is not to flee.

" What I need is to avenge the death of my lover and my mate! Matias did not deserved to die!

Mate? A new information had rendered me speechless, deep inside of me there's a tiny bit of sympathy knowing her mate just died. But I never knew that Jack's Beta have a mate. I looked at her again wondering how they must have hidden it to everyone.

The outrage is going out in full force from her eyes, who used to be blank and epressionless before. But now she has the most hateful eyes that I have ever seen.

I alerted all my senses when she jump and landed in front of me. She doesn't smell anything, no wonder the warrior wolves could not locate where she is. If she choose to fight me hand on hand I have a big chance of winning. But if she uses her cunning little magic, I honestly don't know what's gonna happen.

"Matias is a traitor who got what he deserved! And I'm telling you right now Freyah, whatever you are thinking of doing at this moment. If you are smart enough think about it some more."

"Oh yeah? Did the King thought about it many times before they ended the life of Matias?!

Her eyes turned sharp like a beast ready to strike. The pain and suffering is evident in her voice. I stepped back calming myself and finding a way to slowly shift. My heart is hammering inside my chest wanting to let out the wolf who's hungry for a fight.

"Oh, if i were you my Queen. You should just stay still where you are standing before i plant a bullet through your brain!

The warning in her voice have made me stopped moving.

I told there watching when she took a small gun from the insides of her shabby clothes and pointed it directly towards my head. I wasn't afraid of the gun or the silver bullets and i am sure the moment she fired it the warrior wolves would come and locate her.

"Well, if that's what you wanted Freyah. Fire it! and make sure you aim directly at my brain."

I smirked and move forward, making her a little confused and more mad. She lowered the gun and aim for my heart.

"Oh, not again. You've shot me there the last time, remember? But that doesn't really stop my heart from beating. You see Freyah, i am immune to silver. I thought being a witch have made you realized that".

I had hoped the mockery in my voice has hidden the fear that slowly creeping out to burn my heart. I am not as strong against silver bullet in my human form.

"Hmp! You think I'm stupid my Queen! I know you're weakness and if i planted all the bullets inside this gun to you're heart before you shift, you will not wake up again."

She laughed a sarcastic evil laughter which is not loud enough to be heard by anyone from the Palace Grounds. We were in a dead spot where nobody from the wolf guards would think of coming to check.

So my mind is working out finding a way to apprehend the woman in front of me.

She stopped laughing and squinted her eye aiming to shoot directly at me. I saw her fingers curl at the small gun inside her hand. My senses were quick and before she could move a finger I kicked her hand away, sending the gun flying into a longer distance from both of us.

She shrieked in pain before holding her aching hand with the other. Animosity and anger written all over her face.

"Stop it now Freyah!

I grab her by the shoulders forcefully, my strength have been doubled even in this human form. But she jerked off my hand in full force and before i could guessed what she would do. A cold knife was planted inside my chest.

“I wouldn't stopped until one of us stopped breathing Carmela”.

She murmured against my ear before she stepped back and watch me in pain.

My heart suddenly bleeds and my voice was caught inside my throat. The pain surge inside my body, I was shocked and I couldn't move. But my wolf blood wouldn't allow my heart to just die out like that. I felt the blood in my veins flowed running in every direction.

With the knife planted in my chest my body quickly shifted. My clothes immediately torned and fell off on the ground, Freyah did not even had a chance to move farther away when I break my bones and completed my wolf form.

She just stood there mesmerized and startled. Now my wolf had taken over and my vision has become red. I looked up the sky and howled so loud that Freyah fell down on her knees holding both her ears with her two hands. The howl that woke up all the wolves inside the Kingdom. The howl of their Luna Queen.

"Shut up!!

She shouted with anger in her voice. She just made my fierce wolf became mad. I felt the heavy thumping of my heart inside my chest when I lunged for her directly aiming for her neck.

She clawed and fought back underneath my wolf form. Screaming and shouting in pain when my fangs sink in her neck. Her blood splattered everywhere against my sharp claws and my fangs.

I wasn't in control anymore, my wolf blood was angry with the silver knife planted inside my chest. I could only felt a slight pain even from my own wound.

She was helpless against my strength. As she struggles to survive it only fueled my outrage. I didn't stopped until I ripped open her chest and crushed her heart underneath my feet.

"Queen Carmela!...What happened?

I faintly heard the shout from Gemer and the other wolves.

Before my body collapsed to the ground. I felt tired and sleepy I suddenly just wanted to rest. My heart is still beating even with the silver knife buried deep inside my chest.
