The King Alpha's Mate

* Carmela's POV*

A few days have passed after the death of Freyah. Maleficus took care of her funeral and prayed for the forgiveness of her sins. No one from the wolves attended or even mourned for her, specially that the pack warriors knew what she did to me before she died. It was clear to everyone in the pack that she was a traitor like Matias did.

King Alpha Jack wanted her body to just be burnt into ashes and nothing more, but Maleficus beg for her burial. And I vouched for it to happen, as I still couldn't believe that I had killed her. At the back of my mind my conscience is screaming and if not for the fact that it was a self defense then I would have let myself be punished.

Waking up alone in the bed this morning has been a usual routine for me. Since Jack started to become the King of all Alphas, he gets busier everyday. The only improvement after the incident is that he would try to come home a little earlier before I sleep and we could hang for a bit before finally sleeping.

"Queen Luna, the King has requested to remind you about the council meeting this afternoon"..

The humble voice of Claire informed me, pulling me away from my thoughts while I'm having a late breakfast.

"Oh is that today already?

"Yes my Queen".

Claire cleaned up the table where I finished eating and Cory came to help her up. I stood up from the chair and decided to pick a decent outfit for the meeting. I remembered Jack we're talking about it the other day but I was not listening carefully.

I wonder what are the details of the meeting would be. I just knew Jack said as the Queen, my presence is significant to the council . It will also involved his parents and the warriors of the pack.

I sighed and pick a navy color lace dress that hug my body tracing my curves. It settled just above my knee with a zip behind my back. I paired it with a black high heels before i tied my hair on a french bun. After I am satisfied with my look, someone knocked at the door of our bedroom . I could smell a familiar scent of a warrior from the Royal Pack.

"Just one moment please, I will be out in one minute!

I informed the person behind the door.

"No worries my Queen, just letting you know I am already here. Please take your time".

It was Gemer one of the pack's warriors. Lately he has been coming in with Jack's orders and I won't be surprised if he ends up being a beta soon.

I hurried to finish myself in front of the dresser and open the door so I could go out.

"Thank you for waiting Gemer!

I was greeted first by his shy smile and then he answered. "You're welcome Queen Luna, I apologized for coming instead of King Alpha Jack. He got busy preparing for the council meeting".

"Oh I know that he's occupied so it is alright, by the way did you know what's this meeting all about?

While going outside to the waiting vehicle, I casually asked Gemer. But he just cleared his throat and shake his head.

"I've got no idea my Queen".

The quick drive around the Palace was fast. When we arrived at the huge meeting hall of the King Alpha, Jack immediately rose from his seat to greet me with a hug and a peck on my check.

"I'm glad that you're already here my love, the meeting would not start without you".

I smiled at his handsome face and looked around. His father the former King, Darius is sitting next to King Alpha Jack's seat on a long table and our Queen mother Helen beside him.

"Welcome Queen Carmela, we're glad you could join us. We admire your fast recovery from the recent incident".

The former King Darius, said while smiling back at me.

"Oh, yes father. I was glad it wasn't so bad". My smile was shy due to being the only one that they have waited in order to start the meeting. I know I'm not late, it's just that everybody is being punctual.

"Oh dear! I have creams for the skin Carmela dear. I know as wolves we heal quickly, but sometimes it leaves a scar if the wound comes from a silver blade".

Helen suggested while looking at me. King Alpha Jack help me to get settled in the chair on his right side before he gives the answer to his mother.

"Thank you mother but Carmela does not need any creams or medicine for a scar because the wound did not leave a trace in her perfect skin".

With a smirk Jack sat down on his intended seat. Queen Helen made a soft laugh and winked at me. "That's amazing! Truly a gift of being immune to silver is no doubt running through your veins Carmela. We are very lucky to have you as the new Queen Luna of the Royal Pack".

I felt my cheeks burn with her praised and turned towards Jack who looked devastatingly handsome in his white button down shirt. His God-like features was looking at me, in his light brown eye’s glow I knew he is proud of me.

"Thank you Queen mother".

I answered shortly while holding my gaze against Jack. He scooted closer towards my seat and whispered something against my ear.

"You look ravishing today my love". I cleared my throat and pretended it was nothing but his warm breath assaulted my senses like always, and before I forgot where we are. I took a glanced at the people around the long table.

There were six warriors present and Maleficus sitting on the other end. Everybody nod towards me in recognition and a small smile in Maleficus's face told me he is glad with my presence.

"Everyone we are gathered today for a quick council meeting regarding our pack, as we know i am in need of a good Beta to be my trusted wolf and to keep this pack safe".

Jack's voice echoed inside the meeting hall, the room is very huge and spacious it can accommodate a hundred wolves. But it seemed small for the twelve of us.

Maleficus raised his hand to ask permission from King Alpha Jack to speak.

"Your highness, why not choose Gemer as your Beta. I can see a good future that lies ahead under his role as one”.

Gemer smiled and looked at Alpha Jack, he seemed to be very pleased by Maleficus considering him as the new Beta of the pack.

"Alright let us make a vote in this table, who among you here vote for Gemer to be the new beta of the Royal Pack. Pleased raised your right hand".

I was the first to raised my right hand. Gemer looked at me with his eyes wide and sparkling. I looked around and the next one to raised his hand is Maleficus followed by Queen Helen with a soft laugh. But other than that, Gemer got no other votes in the table. I frowned and glanced at Alpha Jack, even he didn't vote for Gemer.

Then the former King Darius replied. "I suggest to put Michael as your next Beta my son, i see he's older and more experienced with the pack rules than Gemer".

Jack nod his head and raised his right hand. "I want everyone who's in favor of Michael to raised his right hand."

The former King raised his right hand following King Alpha Jack and to my surprise the rest of the Pack's warriors voted for him. Michael smiled and looked at Gemer, which made him sighed and shrugged his shoulders.

Maleficus stood up and took a small scroll from the table.

"Well, I guessed the new Beta is now concluded. I'd like to formally announced today the promotion of Michael Peters as the new Beta of the Royal Pack. Please stand".

Michael stood from his chair following Maleficus. I have nothing against him as the new Beta, he is a good warrior and I hoped he will stay loyal to King Alpha Jack and me.

"Thank you Maleficus, it is my honor to served King Alpha Jack and Queen Luna Carmela. I stand her today accepting the new role as the Beta of the Royal Pack. I solemnly swear my loyalty and trust to my Alpha King and to all the witnessed here tonight. May the Moon Goddess continue her Bleesings towards our Pack and to help me whatever challenges I will face in this phase of my life as a Beta."

I admire how Michael fluently promised his loyalty to King Alpha Jack and to us around. He stood firm and confident that I understand why Jack have choosen him as fig for the role.

"Congratulations Beta Michael,! We will continue to talk one on one tomorrow, for your new duties and responsibilities I hope you won't get disappointed, as we all know being the Beta is my second next in command. So get ready".

"Yes Apha Jack! It is an honor, I would do my best".

Michael bowed his head and Jack gave him a nod then he waved his hand to make him go back to his chair.

"Let's move on to the next issue of the pack today concerning the rogues and our territories."

Everyone on the table was silent, waiting for the next words that King Alpha Jack would say. I have a feeling it's not going to be good.
