The King Alpha's Mate

*Carmela's POV*

The inescapable moment that i've been dreading for finally came. It was already dawn but both of us are still awake.

An odd timing for his departure.

"Is it really the right time for heading out in the woods?

I asked after a deep sighed escape my lips..my throat hurts from tightening as i am trying to stop myself from crying.

"Yes...we need to follow the plan so we won't messed up.. My warriors are all ready waiting for me at the gates."

Jack pulled me inside his arms for a tight embrace. Inhaling his scent once more, i closed my eyes and felt my chin quiver. I have sworn I wouldn't cry and not show him a weak goodbye, I have to let him know I am alright and my faith for him is stronger like our bond. No one could ever break it.

He suddenly lowered his head and cup my face. A frown formed in his forehead looking at the misty gleam of my eyes.

"Oh, my love..don't be sad please. I would return with a victory and i swear i will make up to you for this few days of absence".

Jack curved his lips, a not so eager kind of smile and kissed me gently on my mouth. Consoling me that everything he said is true.

"I would have wanted to go with you, and help. You know i am trained and a strong Luna, we could defeat them together".

I said while moving my lips away from the kiss. My heart is full of worries and I tried so hard not to make it show. But I am on the brink of breaking down.

"No my love..you have to stay here as my Queen. So that... if.. If we lost the war, the Royal Pack would still have you aside from my parents".

Jack's voice slightly trembled, and my eyes widened at the words that I cannot accept I just heard.

"Don't you dare say that! I winced and grab his arms, my voice trembled and my eyes flickered before my teardrops fell like two droplets of water overflowing from a boiling pot.

I choke a sob, I couldn't stop myself anymore. That feeling of someone putting a dagger in my chest is getting more painful in every minute.

"Oh no, Carmela!

Jack tried wiping my cheeks with both of his hands. Trapping my face in the middle, before kissing my eyes one after the other.

"Hussh my love, this is a task we could not stop from doing. It is for the benefit and safety of all the wolves in our pack. A task for an Alpha King”.

I tried to control myself before i replied. "I.. I'm sorry for being this weak. I didn't mean to cry when you needed to leave with a strong will to win. It's just that I cannot help myself".

I looked up and saw the sadness deep inside his brown orbs, whom he suddenly replaced with a better expression.

"You looked beautiful when you cry..."

He smiled and lowered his head against me. Kissing my lips one more time before letting me go.

"I love you Carmela, until my last breath. That i would beg the Moon Goddess to send me back, if she would take my life in this battle".

"Oh Jack, i love you too! My life will be meaningless without you. And if the Moon Goddess will take your life, i will beg her to take mine too! That i swear...

Jack smiled and turned towards the door. I stayed glued on the floor in order to stop myself from running. He didn't turned back to me when he left and closed the door behind.

A quiet whimper escaped my lips and my breathing turned heavy. I still hold my emotions inside. When Jack's scent started to fade in the air and i felt him going farther away. I let my emotions flow.

My shoulders trembled and i cried... With my loud sob and convulsive breathing, i ran towards the bedroom and threw myself in the bed. The pillows suddenly soaked with my face buried in the same one that Jack laid his head that evening. I could vividly smell him in the bed and the sheets.

I couldn't remember for how long i stayed inside the bedroom, but i must have dozed off while crying. I was awaken by the soft knocks on the door.

"Queen Carmela the food is ready if you would like to eat".

Claire says from behind the door.

I got up feeling the dried tears all over my face. Taking a long deep breath before i answered. "No I'm not hungry Claire, you and Cory can retire for the day."

"Thank you my Queen, please call us if there's anything you want or needed ".

I heard her footsteps getting farther away. My mind went back to the scene a few hours ago.

Jack...

His name and his face is the only thing i could think about. But I couldn't call him on mind linked, he is too far for the bond. I got up slowly from the bed and decided to take a quick shower, so i took slow steps and went inside the bathroom.

While the water is running smoothly against my skin, an idea pops up inside my head. Why don't i go to Maleficus and talk to him tonight? Perhaps he could make me see a vision on how is Jack doing. I am dying to know if the battle between the rogues have started.

I quickly finished my shower and grab a clean towel in the rack. Getting a pair of my sweatpants and shirt inside the dressing room, i hurried to dry my hair and dressed up. When I'm finally done, i mind linked Gemer to accompany me.

"Yes Queen Carmela, I'm on my way".

He quickly answered.

It only took few minutes when i felt Gemer outside our chambers so I hurried to open the doors and step outside.

"Thank you Gemer, now let's go to the chambers of the old wizard. I needed to see where King Alpha Jack is".

Gemer had a looked of surprised passed through his eyes before he nods his head and walked with me to the waiting car.

The drive was almost half an hour when Gemer halt in the small cabin outside the Palace gates.

"Oh! Is this where Maleficus lives?

I asked feeling surprised. I thought he lives just on the other side of the Palace.

"Not really my Queen, the wizard only came here to make medicines or herbal concoction. But he stays mostly in the Palace with us. Someone from the warrior pack just informed me Maleficus is staying here until the war with the rogues is over".

I nodded my head towards Gemer, and waited for him to open the door for me. Stepping outside the car, i was greeted with the cold breeze of the wind. I felt a little shiver from the cold so i quickly walked towards the front porch of the cabin. A small lamp was placed outside the door, i noticed it's almost night time.

The sun have given up against the moon. I looked up the sky and sighed when the moon hides behind a big fluffy gray cloud.

Just when Gemer is about to knock, the door suddenly opened.

"Welcome my Queen! I knew you were coming."

Maleficus in a dark cloak and black clothing stood inside holding the door. I inhaled and walked nearer.

"I'm sorry for the interruption Maleficus, but I guessed you already know why I'm hear".

The old wizard stepped back and let Gemer and i get inside. The scent of candles and the aroma of sweet incense filled the entire cabin. It wasn't bad, in fact i liked how he made the place light up with just the glow of fire from the candles all over.

"Please have a seat my Queen..and Gemer".

Maleficus motioned us towards a round built wooden table set in the center of the cabin with the big candles sitting at the center.

"Thank you Maleficus".

Gemer pulled out a chair for me to sit and he sat beside me. Maleficus took the crystal bowl he used the last time at the meeting hall and the black stick that he placed beside it.

He sat in front of Gemer and me. "Do you want to start now my Queen?

He asked opening his hand on top of the table while looking at me straight in the eye. My heart suddenly beats faster inside my chest. Somehow i am both curious and afraid to see what i wanted to witness. I place my hand on top of his and nod my head.

"Yes let's start now". I said while biting the insides of my mouth.

Maleficus glanced at Gemer and placed his left hand on top of the table near him.

"Oh, am I allowed to see this too?

He asked hesitantly.

"Yes Gemer, you are. Since you came with the Queen, we also need to used some of your energy for the journey."

I nod towards Gemer, making him put his hand on top of Maleficus. When Maleficus started to chant his spell, i closed my eyes and focused on finding Jack and knowing where he is.
