The Legend of Min Hong
Chapter 141: Death-match
Next Day…
Within an office inside the Enforcement Hall…
This office is where most of the Enforcement Hall's administrative matters were dealt with.
Min Hong and his group of five stood in front of an old man who was known as Elder Feng; he was one of the many elders within the administrative positions of the Enforcement Hall.
He was also the one charged with the endorsement of all the duels within the disciples of the sect. the Chi Zheng group of four were also present.
Apparently, Elder Feng had summoned them all when he saw the nature of the deathmatch challenge form on his desk.
He thought Min Hong's group as a newbie had been pressured into making such a decision, so he had sent three Enforcement Hall disciples to go fetch them over, so he could confirm everything by himself.
Moreover, though the cultivation gap between Min Hong and Zi Kun alone was not that much, it wasn't equal either.
If that were all, then he would have just felt that Min Hong was just a talented disciple who was testing his limits.
But then he noticed that another name was also included on the form and more importantly, when considering the Daos as well, this second disciple was slightly superior to the first one.
Then what finally put him off was that Min Hong was actually planning on battling them simultaneously!
At that point, he felt Min Hong must have bashed his head when he was little, otherwise he should know that he was just attempting an indirect suicide.
"…Let me get this straight… You, outer court disciple Min Hong would like to have a deathmatch with outer court disciples Zi Kun and Chi Zheng?"
"The last time I checked, you were only in the Peak King and Qi Sea stage, and you agreed to fight not one, but two people who are in the 5 Star Dan Formation stage?"
"Are you looking to die or something?"
Elder Feng looked at Min Hong with an odd expression plastered on his face.
In this world, unless one is a cultivation monster or happen to have some overpowered weapon, they would never be able to defeat someone who has a higher cultivation power, let alone two of such people!
And in Elder Feng's eyes, Min Hong was only a mere outer court newbie with some talent in cultivation but since he could achieve that much in cultivation, he believed Min Hong to be someone who was a cultivation pill junkie, who lacked battle experience.
"You don't look like someone who had seen much of the outside world and neither do you seem to be like someone from a Super Clan or highly rated background who could possibly have a weapon capable of subduing a single cultivator who is stronger than you, not to talk of two and yet you still dare to go on with the challenge?"
"Are you courting death?!"
"Elder Feng! This death-match was his choice, not mine! I did not force him to fight me; this was something he did with a smug smile on his face!"
Chi Zheng who wanted to get rid of Min Hong and the humiliation he suffered from his hands quickly spoke up in fear that this Enforcement Hall Elder might actually cower Min Hong away from the challenge.
Min Hong simply glanced at Chi Zheng with a calm demeanour but a ridiculing smile hung on the corners of his lips as he turned over to Elder Feng and said with a gentle smile;
"Elder Feng is right. I am neither an experienced expert nor do I have a massive and powerful clan backing me."
"However, as a man, would you back out from a difficulty with your pride on the line just because it looks insurmountable?"
His words caused Elder Feng to lift his brows in surprise, and to everyone's shock, he responded;
"No, I would not."
"Right, then allow me to fight him…" Min Hong added.
Elder Feng turned silent as he pondered the situation for a moment, and after a few seconds later, he responded;
"This is a deathmatch with your life on the line, it is not some friendly spar or a duel to test your martial arts and techniques which would only inflict several injuries at most. Once you step into that arena, nether of you are allowed to leave until the one party is dead."
Without thinking too much or any further about it, Min Hong nodded;
"While we are at it, we might as well schedule the rest of his group to a death-match with me."
Min Hong nonchalantly added, gobsmacking everyone present within the office, including his own group.
"What did you just say? You want a death-match with the remaining two?"
Elder Feng looked at the rest of Chi Zheng's group which consisted of Lao Shi and Yue Yao with a bewildered expression.
"That's why you all followed right?" Min Hong looked at the duo with a playful smile.
"Fei Hong! How arrogant of you to think that you will get the chance to fight someone else before our death-match have even started! Are you saying that you have absolute confidence in your victory?!"
Zi Kun exploded in a fit of rage after hearing Min Hong's ridiculing words, feeling like Min Hong just threw a dump of shit on his face before rubbing it all over his face.
Min Hong simply glanced at his tomato-red face that was bulging with veins and said with a stunned expression;
"Why else would I fight you both? To die? I think you must have been dropped as a baby!" Min Hong fuelled the flames of his anger.
"FEI HOOONNNGGG!"
Just as Zi Kun was about attacking Min Hong out of sheer fury, Elder Feng coughed lightly, instantly Zi Kun abruptly screeched to a halt.
"Where do you think you are, outer court disciple Zi Kun?"
Elder Feng narrowed his eyes at Zi Kun causing him to freeze like a deer in front of headlights, seemingly petrified by his ominous gaze.
"T-This lowly disciple apologizes to Elder Feng for overestimating himself and overstepping his boundaries."
Zi Kun immediately apologised with a waist deep bow. Elder Feng simply sighed as he said;
"Since you all are itching to fight so badly, I shall grant your wish and approve of the deathmatch, but I will be personally overseeing it myself."
Zi Kun beamed happily as he bowed once again;
"Thank you, Elder Peng, for giving this lowly disciple a chance to redress his grievances!"
Min Hong simply snorted derisively at Zi Kun's belief that he really had no chance against them.
He originally didn't plan to stain his hands with blood so soon after entering the Desert Sun Sect, especially when he still had a team to build.
However, Min Hong knew very well that if he ignored these vermin today, they will surely come up with another thing to trouble him with.
That was even if he chose to ignore what Little Wu just told him about an upcoming trouble, hence he had decided to wipe them off the surface of the world, so he wouldn't have to worry about them anymore.
He was also planning to use them to send a very clear and efficient message to everyone else who might be having some unfortunate thoughts.
"Since you have all decided, let's head over to the arena then…" Elder Feng was the first to walk out of the Enforcement Hall as the rest of them followed closely behind.
…
…
…
"Hey look! It is an official death-match!"
"What? Who's fighting?"
The disciples that happened to be passing by the arena approached the arena when they saw Min Hong's group and Chi Zheng's group following closely behind Elder Feng.
"Out of my way, you ants. Hmph! You are just hearing about this, when it had circulated all through the outer court since last night…"
Another outer court disciple who was rushing towards the arena like it was the last flight saving humans from a global apocalypse heard their conversation as he rushed over.
"What? We were on a mission outside the sect and only returned recently. Can you please brief us on what happened?"
One of the two outer court disciples who saw Min Hong's group earlier asked with a pleading expression.
He knew that though, deathmatches within the sect were always a head-turner and crowd pulling event, it shouldn't warrant this much emotional reaction from this outer court disciple.
"One newbie in the Peak King and Qi Sea stage is about to battle two disciples in the 5 Star Dan Formation stage simultaneously. What's more, there are some nutjobs who had declared to support him and bet on him to win."
"But they were only accepting spirit stones as bets, so I had to rush over to the Treasure Hall to convert all my belongings and even some merit points into spirit stones."
The anxious disciple rapidly explained before bolting into the arena without any other intention to say anything further.
The duo looked at themselves and as if coming to a telepathic conclusion, they both bolted towards the direction of the Treasure Hall.
"Elder Feng is overseeing this death-match, so it is really official!" a disciple joyfully blurted as he looked at the entourage approaching the fighting cage.
Because it was a death-match and not an ordinary duel, a cage is used in a bid to prevent outsiders from interfering and one of the disciples taking the challenge from fleeing.
"Isn't that Fei-Hong? The 12-year-old who managed to enter the top ten rankings of the entrance selection exams final results?"
Another disciple remarked, as the crowd of outer court disciples who had been eager to see the fight begin after hearing the rumours of Min Hong storming into Chi Zheng's apartment and leaving unhindered whilst destroying some things within the apartment, chattered amongst themselves.
The rumour was clearly the handwork of Mu Li, as those who had heard of the power level of those involved in the fight began to place their bets in the hands of a fatty called Elder Dai; who was from the Treasure Hall.
The Treasure Hall oversees any betting that stems from official occasions like this and set the odds which changes up until the challengers have been locked within the cage.
They also had two Enforcement Hall disciples to act as guards and since such a thing was not only allowed but supported by the sect, all disciples flooded over to them.
One of the reasons why the sect supports this gambling was because of the many disciples who loan resources from the Treasure Hall.
If these disciples refuse to pay up their loans at the exact time, apart from the fact that they would have lost a year worth of their resources, they would also be required to pay a 15 percent interest.
The interests, which would then be converted by the Treasure Hall into merit points and sent over to the Mission Hall, who would be the ones to issue out a mission of that worth to the disciple in return.
That way, the sect makes its disciples complete missions for free, whilst the Enforcement Hall would be in charge of ensuring that the disciple completes missions worth the amount of merit points the disciple owes the sect.
Thus, the sect fully supported the idea of gambling and loans and before long, the odds of Min Hong compared to the Chi Zheng duo had already soared to a 300:1 rate.
This means that should Min Hong win, the disciples who bet on him to win would receive 300 spirit stones in return for every 1 they bet.
So, if a disciple bets 10 spirit stones on Min Hong to win, and Min Hong wins, he would receive 3000 spirit stones in return.
Then Mu Li, who wanted to get the maximum best out of this bet, hired 70 outer court disciples to each bet 10 Mid-grade spirit stones on Min Hong and in return they would get 10 Mid-grade spirit stones as rewards even if Min Hong lost.
That way, the Treasure Hall would not suspect anything and thus not change the odds…
