The Legendary Pseudo-villain
Chapter 113 - Do You Trust Me?
Hecathe smiled thinly as he spoke up, "Now you know why I'm here. Do you feel like you can trust me after hearing that?"
Marvin gulped as he thought about it for a minute before nodding his head as he responded, "I already trusted you."
"..." Hecathe blinked in confusion.
Then was that self-explanation all a waste...?!
"You said you wanted to avenge him. You wanted to avenge someone you hardly even knew. You are a good guy because only a good person would try to do something as useless as that," Marvin sighed as he spoke and Hecathe couldn't help but be a little shocked as he heard this.
He was a good guy...?
This had to be the biggest joke of the century...!!
"You're still naive and an idiot. Maybe I'm not a good guy but just someone looking to have some fun by killing a few annoying rodents," Hecathe scoffed as he responded.
Marvin immediately shook his head as he heard this and defended Hecathe, "You're not like that!"
"..."
Did this boy have a brain or was the floor upstairs1 completely empty...?!
"I could sense it in the way you talked... You're not doing this because you want to have some fun, you're doing this because you genuinely feel pity for Alphius."
Hecathe immediately fell speechless as he heard this and although he wanted to deny it, he couldn't say anything since he knew that the feeling that made him want to go against one of the willows was exactly the feeling of pity.
No matter how much Hecathe would try to deny it, at the end of the day, this was a fact.
Hecathe indeed felt pity for Alphius and that was the reason why he was ready to go through all the trouble to find the real culprit behind the murder of the great Orgon.
"Believe whatever you want to believe," Hecathe sighed as he snapped, "At the end of the day, whether I'm doing this out of pity or goodwill, it really wouldn't matter."
Marvin nodded his head as he heard this and kept his eyes on the ground as he spoke, "So... At the end of the day, you're still planning on helping him so that you can return to your world...?"
Hecathe's lips curled up in a small smile as he heard this and with a nod, he asked, "Are you going to miss me? With me no longer here, you won't even be able to see this face of your friend."
Marvin gulped as he heard this and didn't dare comment on that.
Hecathe chuckled as he sensed the boy's sadness and guilt, "Don't worry, even I'm not sure what's going to happen in the end. I'm just guessing, nothing more."
This was the truth.
Hecathe had no idea what was going to happen after he finds and convicts the real killer.
This wasn't his body and this world was also not his own. Alphius had merely asked him for a favor and after one completes the favor, weren't they supposed to go their own way...?
If Hecathe's body was still alive in his real world then he was sure that he was going to go back after completing this stupid favor, but in the worst-case scenario, that was not going to be the case.
It all depended on what Alphius meant when he said "Die in my stead."
Did he mean he wanted Hecathe to die as Alphius or did it mean to let Hecathe's body die instead of Alphius...?
If both of those were not the cases, then what was Alphius trying to say...?!
"Hecathe, After we get rid of Asgarian... Can you..." The boy immediately stopped himself as he sighed and shook his head, "Forget it. I'll ask you later."
Hecathe was a little shocked, but the man didn't bother questioning Marvin.
Hecathe clicked his tongue as he finally decided to put an end to this conversation, "Let's go back inside. Breakfast is waiting."
Hecathe didn't wait for the boy's response as he walked ahead first and headed back inside the building.
Marvin was left a bit stunned, but the boy eventually managed to follow after Hecathe.
This time, LeiLei was no longer there in the kitchen and it was only the Landlady who was there with fresh chicken sandwiches.
Hecathe sighed in relief as he saw the boneless, not-burnt chicken sandwiches.
"Thank you so much for this," Hecathe thanked the woman as he grabbed the sandwich and took a bite out of it.
The delicious filling inside melted on his tongue and Hecathe felt as if he was back to being a kid who had tasted this type of chicken sandwich for the first time.
The best part of it: There was no bone crunching sound this time...!
The woman chuckled as she saw Hecathe happily eating the breakfast that she had quickly prepared for him.
Marvin coughed twice as he sat beside Hecathe and looked at the woman expectantly.
"Eh?" The Landlady immediately stopped laughing as she saw Marvin simply sitting there and looking at her, "You're eating here today...?"
It seemed that since the boy had moved in, he hadn't ever eaten breakfast here and so it was only natural that the woman was shocked to see him sitting there.
Marvin said nothing and didn't even bother looking away as he kept his eyes on the woman.
Hecathe almost wanted to laugh as he saw such an awkward scene, but he was too busy stuffing his face with the delicious chicken sandwich.
The Landlady gulped as she looked between Hecathe and Marvin before asking cautiously, "I have some sandwiches left behind... Would that be alright...?"
Marvin didn't say anything but nodded his head as a response.
The landlady immediately bobbed her head up and down and headed back to the kitchen before coming back out with a plate filled with two more sandwiches.
It seemed that the Landlady was a bit afraid of Marvin and this could be clearly noticed in the way her hand shivered as she placed the plate down in front of him.
Hecathe was a bit surprised to see that the woman was afraid of Marvin but wasn't afraid of Hecathe...
He didn't know if he was supposed to feel offended about it but he was certainly a bit offended to know that he wasn't even as scary as a teenager like Marvin.
Hecathe glanced sideways at Marvin and his eyes narrowed down on the boy as he analyzed him before looking down at his own body.
"..."
Marvin surely had the body of a teenager but he was the type of teenager to have the body of an athletic student whereas Alphius was thin...
Hecathe hated it...
The man closed his eyes and tried to calm himself down as he reassured himself that if it had been his real body, Marvin would have never managed to win in that department...!
Damn... Alphius should have really drunk milk and exercised more!
Marvin didn't complain at all as he took the sandwich and started eating, however, his reaction was not as happy as Hecathe's reaction either. It was simply... Dead.
There was no change in his facial expression and his entire demeanor simply seemed to be unchanged as if he couldn't even taste the chicken sandwich.
But for some reason, The landlady looked to be happy as she saw the man eating the breakfast she had cooked.
"You are always welcome here," The woman beamed as she informed, "The payment for the food is already included in your rent so it would be a waste if you were to eat outside."
It seemed that although she had said all this, she didn't really expect the boy to agree, however, The Landlady was pleasantly surprised to see Marvin nodding his head as he agreed with the woman.
"..."
Hecathe chuckled as he managed to notice this exchange between the two.
Although Hecathe was the one who started eating first, it was Marvin who finished first and as soon as the boy was done eating, he went back to the room without even bothering to thank the woman for the meal.
Once the boy was out of sight, the Landlady immediately took a seat in front of Hecathe and leaned in closer to the man as she questioned in a whisper, "What's with the two of you?! I thought you went out to fight! Why is he acting like that? Did you win? Did you beat him?"
Hecathe who was bombarded with all these questions sighed as he shook his head before nodding as he tried to answer vaguely, "It's kinda like that..."
"Kinda like what?!" The woman frowned as she repeated and asked for an explanation.
"If you were to consider it a fight, I'm the one that won," Hecathe smirked as he confidently replied and stood up from the chair.
"..."
The Landlady gulped as she heard this and her eyes trailed up and down the man's body, making Hecathe frown.
Even though the woman didn't question it, the question she wanted to ask was clearly displayed on her face.
Are you sure you won, boy...?
"..."
Marvin gulped as he thought about it for a minute before nodding his head as he responded, "I already trusted you."
