The Legendary Pseudo-villain
Chapter 52 - Too Flashy!
"Let's count!" Kelly looked to be excited as she exclaimed. and Hecathe couldn't believe that this was the same woman who had been so cold and professional in the beginning when they had just met.
"Oi! Where are the other two?" It was a male voice that interrupted them and when Hecathe looked up to see the man, he was not shocked to see that it was the same guy that he had met previously when he entered the guild.
It was the nameless side character that would eventually be forgotten!
"They ran off somewhere inside the cave," Kelly responded, her voice lacking any emotions.
"So you left them behind again?" The man frowned as he questioned.
Kelly simply nodded her head as she confirmed, "That's right. They were too annoying."
"..." The man took a minute to finally react as he sighed and informed, "I'll tell the next team to keep a lookout for them."
"Do whatever you want," Kelly yawned as she spoke up, "I doubt they'll be alive by then."
The man noted something down on the notebook in his hand before he walked over and helped Kelly count the number of mutants that their team C had managed to catch.
Kelly had only managed to catch a single alive mutant while Raven had managed to catch all of them dead with not even a single one left alive. Hecathe, on the other hand, had managed to catch the mutants alive and hadn't killed even a single one of them.
Kelly and the man seemed to be discussing something seriously as they sometimes peeked at Hecathe and Raven, however, the two men acted as if they didn't notice it at all.
When they were done counting all the mutants, it was Kelly who stood up first with a bright smile on her face, "You two have certainly managed to surprise us!"
The other guy also stood up with a sigh as he looked at Hecathe with an indecipherable expression plastered on his face, "You won the bet."
Hecathe almost wanted to laugh as he heard the man admit it himself.
"Bet?" Kelly tilted her head in confusion as she questioned, "What bet are you talking about?"
The man shook his head as he refused to say anything and Hecathe would naturally not say anything as well.
"Let's see," The man looked down at the told count that was written on his notebook and continued, "Kelly managed to catch a single alive mutant and twenty-eight dead ones."
Kelly nodded rather proudly as if confirming it.
"Raven managed to catch... One hundred and seventy-four dead mutants." The man blinked a few times as he cautiously looked at Raven who simply stood there like a log of wood that was unaffected.
That number... Was surely impressive. Especially considering the fact that he had managed to kill so many in under a minute.
"Hecathe managed to catch..." The man was once again a bit speechless as he looked at the numbers, "Seventy-four alive mutants..."
Hecathe nodded his head as he heard this.
Catching one alive mutant was equal to killing an army of thousand mutants so by catching seventy-four alive mutants, it need not be said how much more impressive Hecathe's count became.
Too flashy!!
"With that said, we would like to offer you both a permanent job!" Kelly beamed happily as she exclaimed.
Raven chuckled lightly as he heard this but said nothing as a response.
"How would you like to join our guild?" Kelly questioned and her eyes looked to be shining with so much hope that it would be hard for anyone to turn her down.
"I like the offer, but I'm afraid I'll have to turn you guys down," Hecathe responded and looked to be quite unfazed by it.
"..."
"Oi! Didn't you do this to prove that you were going to become a permanent mage?!" The man who stood beside Kelly exclaimed as he questioned in confusion.
"Hmm?" Hecathe tilted his head as he asked back, "When did I ever say that I wanted to become a part of your guild?"
It was probably the first time someone had said such a thing to his face so he didn't look to be too pleased with it and his face turned white as a result.
"Hecathe... Are you joking right now?" Kelly suddenly turned all serious as she asked coldly with a frown, "Do you think we just call anyone over to join our guild?"
"I'm sure you don't," Hecathe sighed as he responded just as seriously, "But I'm just not interested.
"..." Kelly was speechless as she glared at the man and her icy glare made Hecathe feel a little guilty.
"What are you playing at?!" The man seemed to be on his edge as he questioned, "Why are you here in the first place?"
Hecathe chuckled as he heard this question, "What else could I be here for?"
Hecathe took out the poster from his pocket and showed it to the two as he pointed at it and spoke, "I'm here for this cash."
"..." The two mages from the golden fire guild fell speechless as they heard this.
"You see, I'm running a bit low on cash at the moment and this seemed to be the quickest way," Hecathe added with a chuckle as he folded the poster and put it back in his pocket.
Kelly gulped as she asked, "Then is the money all you were after?"
Hecathe nodded his head shamelessly as he responded, "Of course. Money rules the world, does it not? I'm a foreigner here in this city and you guys must already know how expensive everything is for foreigners like me."
Raven who was watching this conversation from the side chuckled under his breath as he saw through Hecathe's tactic.
"Then we'll pay you," Kelly spoke up as she fell right into Hecathe's trap, "Just tell us how much you need and we'll pay you for joining the guild."
Hecathe's lips curled up in a satisfied smirk as he heard the offer and he immediately held up two fingers as if he had already expected this.
