The Legendary Pseudo-villain
Chapter 85 - No Welcome Party
"You're here early," Kelly looked up from the papers in front of her with a sigh as she removed her leg from the desk and sat up straight.
"I didn't want to keep you waiting," Hecathe smiled as he responded.
Kelly seemed to be satisfied as she heard this answer and nodded.
"It's a good thing. I'll add you to the first team that heads out today," Kelly informed him first before she wrote something down on the paper in front of her.
"You're going to send me out on a mission as soon as I get here?" Hecathe chuckled dryly as he asked, "Shouldn't I get a warm welcome first?"
Kelly didn't know if she wanted to laugh or cry as she heard this but in the end, she did neither as she looked up at Hecathe blankly.
"If you want a warm welcome, then you can go outside and buy everyone a few drinks. It would make you seem more acceptable and friendly."
Hecathe pursed his lips as he heard this suggestion, "I would like to pass. I'm not good with alcohol nor am I good with alcoholics."
It sounded normal when Hecathe said it but only he knew what he truly meant.
Hecathe had bad experiences with alcohol and there was even a time when he had ended up in a police station after punching a few drunk bastards.
Alcohol makes you impulsive and Hecathe was really not an impulsive person nor was he someone who enjoyed the mere thought of being impulsive even by mistake.
Kelly smirked as she heard the man, "You don't like alcohol?"
Hecathe nodded his head as he confirmed it firmly, "I can't imagine liking it even in my dreams."
"Then you're going to have a lot of fun in this guild," The woman chuckled as she commented and for some reason, Hecathe had the feeling that the woman was being sarcastic.
"I don't know about fun but I do feel like this guild is going to be useful for me."
Kelly's eyes narrowed down on Hecathe as she heard this comment, "Useful? Do you mean it's going to help you get more experience?"
Hecathe smiled thinly as he heard this question but didn't bother giving an answer since he didn't really want to lie to the woman.
This guild was surely going to be useful for him because this guild was really important in the plan.
Kelly waited for a minute but when she got no response from the man, she sighed as she let go of the topic, "In any case, you're up in ten minutes."
"Ten minutes?" Hecathe tilted his head and repeated in confusion as he asked.
Kelly smiled as she stood up from her seat and walked over towards Hecathe's side. She raised her hand and Hecathe's eyebrows creased together as he tried to understand what this woman was trying to do.
She patted his shoulder as she spoke, "Your first official mission as one of the guild members starts in ten minutes."
"So you're really not going to brief me up on how this guild works or anything like that?" Hecathe asked as he found it a bit surprising that this woman was straightaway sending him into another mission.
Kelly chuckled as she heard the man and responded, "Why do you think I should brief you up? If you were a normal member that joined happily then you might have had the luxury to get a warm welcome but since you took money from me, I hope to see you suffer a bit."
"..."
To say that she wanted him to suffer so openly... This woman clearly had no fear for anyone.
"Ah! Right!" Kelly clicked her tongue as she suddenly remembered something and exclaimed, "The other guy that joined with you, he's currently going through the warn welcome I just talked about."
"Eh? Raven?" Hecathe frowned as he heard this and although he didn't really care about getting a warm welcome, he still couldn't help but feel a little dissatisfied to hear this.
Kelly pursed her lips together in a thin smile as she spun Hecathe around and pushed him forward slightly as she spoke, "Now go and get me some mutant beads. Collect as many as you can. If you don't at least collect a hundred, I'm gonna make you clean the toilet."
It was certainly the first time in Hecathe's life, he was being bossed around like this, and for someone to actually threaten him with toilet cleaning duty? It was truly a bit ridiculous for him to hear.
Hecathe chuckled dryly as he looked back to say something but his words never left his mouth as he saw that the woman was no longer there.
When he looked around in confusion, he realized that it wasn't Kelly who had disappeared, it was him. Kelly had directly sent him into a room for his first mission.
The last time when he was on a mission, there were four other people who had accompanied him. Two of those four were certainly useless and were probably dead by now but the remaining two, Kelly and Raven were quite talented and Hecathe could trust them to have his back if he ever was in a dire situation.
This time, Hecathe thought that he would be getting other members to team up with but he realized that today's team only consisted of one person.
A one-member team and that one member was no other than Hecathe himself.
"..."
He suddenly had the feeling that he had somehow offended Kelly who was now taking out her revenge on him.
There was a single-legged table inside this room and the rest of the room was pretty much empty.
On the table, there was a board with a paper pasted and Hecathe leaned over to read what was written on the paper without bothering to pick the board up.
There was not much written on it except for the mission that he was given and his own name that was written at the top along with the time limit that he was given.
This mission was also for just ten minutes and this time, Hecathe had to collect mutant beads and not their bodies.
For some reason, Hecathe sighed in relief after reading the mission. For him, collecting mutant beads was a lot easier than capturing mutants.
If he was collecting mutant beads, all he needed to do was wait and ask the mutants to give up their beads, however, if he was capturing mutants, he would need to go through the trouble of tying them all up and after tying up so many in the last mission, Hecathe could now confidently say that it was the most boring thing ever.
They didn't fight and to tie up a willing mutant was surely boring. Hecathe would never enjoy going through that much trouble again.
If he ever received another mission to capture mutants, he would surely give the ties to the mutants and ask them to tie themselves up. If they didn't know how to tie then he would take a few minutes to even teach them how to do it.
"Get ready!" It was Kelly's voice and Hecathe could clearly hear the woman's announcement, however, he was unable to spot her when he looked around.
"I'll be sending you out in the next three seconds," The woman's voice was heard once again as she continued but this time Hecathe was sure that it was nothing more than her voice that was inside this room.
Hecathe counted the three seconds in his mind and when he was done counting, the lights went out, or to be more specific, he was sent into another mutant cave. It was still a wonder to him how the teleportation worked but since there were a lot of ability users in this world with all kinds of abilities, he was no longer shocked to see anything.
Hecathe took a cold breath in as he tried to find out how many mutants were around him and he was able to connect with them much faster this time.
The man sighed as he crouched down and leisurely took a seat on the floor before taking out a matchstick from his pocket.
It was a good thing that he had thought about bringing a lightstick after expecting something like this to happen.
It wasn't common to send a newly recruited member out to a mission, however, since Hecathe had both impressed and offended Kelly, he had already expected to be treated differently.
Hecathe lit up the matchstick and the light coming from the small fire was the only thing that illuminated the cave.
His eyes widened ever so slightly as he saw the number of mutants that were crawling on the floor and hanging down from the ceilings.
"I sometimes feel pity for you," Hecathe commented as he stretched his hand out forward and continued, "But work is work so I would like it if you could all just listen to me and hand over your mutant beads."
"I didn't want to keep you waiting," Hecathe smiled as he responded.
Kelly seemed to be satisfied as she heard this answer and nodded.
