# Survivors (13)

When the fire truck halfway out of the garage, winter waves its arms at the front of the pickup truck.

“Wait a minute. Everybody stop. ”

The platoon members have just begun to wonder. Morales, the best man, steps forward.

“What's the matter? ”

“I think it's inefficient. ”

Then winter points to the direction of the gas station.

“Let's stop there first. Maybe there's a battery in the garage, right? ”

The streets were only a block away. The building with the solar panels was close by, but given the time and hassle of pulling wires from the inverter, Winter's words made sense.

“Hmph. Got it. Hey, Ale! Wesley, disconnect! ”

Private First Class Ale is named Alejandro. It was nicknamed after him. I was often teased because of the English language, but I didn't really dislike it even though it was annoying. It was fortunate for the winter that I had to pay attention to the atmosphere of the temporary platoon in charge.

The retractor loosens. The soldier driving the truck is relieved. I was worried the axle would bend.

The weight of the fire truck was supposed to be weight class. Not that there's a big problem right now. Winter also had similar experiences.

‘It was to fight over whose car was more powerful. ’

I remember the crowds who were obsessed with that simple fight. The apocalypse was an armed group encountered in Washington, D.C. The interior and exterior of the car were like monsters beating up asphalt pieces. The Skeleton Cross, which was dangling from the bonnet, was still clear. Other white tattoos of the driver holding the wheel and using evil were also impressive. The atmosphere was cruel, but it was a game that started for a moderate peaceful compromise. Commodities were food, drugs, slaves.

At that time, the infection spread quickly, enriching the civilization's heritage. A world where humanity was disappearing faster than the rest of its supplies. Therefore, hopeless survivors have become a group of barbarians digging graves from the past.

I don't want that in this world.

It is winter that I believe the possibility of the end is still rare. But not without it, I had to prepare my mind a little bit. But only if it was quiet enough not to panic. It was a boy's simple wish. The only fool of the afterlife, may he rest long enough to chew.

The gas station faced a small bank with one road between them. There was a radio station in the back. One of the soldiers turns and smiles bitterly. The channel I used to listen to when I worked as a grocery store clerk. Unexpectedly, winter wondered if the radio broadcast we had heard on Lake Piquad was still ongoing. The president would have announced a new narrative. What about the containment line? and how the U.S. government is coping.

“Found it! Tons of it! Gasoline, fuel stabilizers are piled up in boxes. ”

Soldiers who wipe the windows and look into the room cheer loudly. There was traces of water on the ceiling, whether it was a typhoon, but most of the batteries were well stored. Even the leak-proof tapes were new and intact. Fuel stabilizers are the same. Winter instructed.

“Start with the truck batteries. It wasn't cool because it was completely discharged. ”

“Yes sir. ”

Everyone was bright even though it was nothing. They were also used to fighting frustration.

A little fun would be nice. Winter broke the vending machine in front of the office. The iron crowbar snaps and snaps open with a snap. It was only Coke, about half a year past its expiration date. It doesn't hurt when I get dizzy, but in case you haven't noticed, some winters tasted it first. The sense of survival was silent.

“How is it? Is it worth it? ”

Expectant questions. Winter threw several blue cans instead of the answer. Soldiers smile joyfully.

“I don't deal in steamed beer and warm cola. ”

It was Morales, but not Morales. After eating one, I put the rest in the cargo hold. It would be an unexpected gift for the entire platoon if it were to be refreshed. As Captain Langford said, the difference between life and death was sometimes a spoonful of ice cream.

That would be sex for some audiences in the physical world.

Winter does not despise them.

There was an unexpected harvest. It was two small tankers. Usually, he would stop in the middle of a long road and go to the vehicles and rip them off. Transportation was only 4,500 liters each, but that was enough to fill up the ninety humvees.

At this point, there were many more choices for Baker Corps.

‘I wish I had an abandoned armored car on the way. The tram is better. ’

Winter was a luxurious thought. Because of the poor fuel efficiency, the power of the armored car or chariot was absolute. Even without a cannonball. Fort Roberts' meerkats trampled a group of mutants to death mercilessly. It has enabled 1,500 horsepower engines and high reliability to do so. Noise is a burden, but there was a way to use it. There are advantages to overcoming unpaved roads or Yagi. It would have been useful at least while crossing the plains.

Or 1,900 liters of U.S. military tanks. Filling it like that will move more than 400 kilometers.

Soldiers wrestling with the main organs pulled oil directly from the basement low oil. It was stored in bulk, so the retention was good. It was a yard full of additives anyway.

We were divided. Will both be filled with diesel or will one contain gasoline? Anyway, all the vehicles we have now are diesel engines. In the future, if you choose a car, the type of pick-up truck was the priority. Put gasoline in a car like this and the engine will explode.

Winter ended the debate.

“We're not trying to cross the continent, are we? Diesel is enough as it is. We're going to need gasoline if we're going to get a new car. Armored vehicles.”

It is a chariot engine that goes back even with perfume, but is not compatible with diesel. There was no guarantee that the other vehicles to be secured would be diesel engines. I heard there was a military container in Russia that used gasoline and diesel together, so I didn't know how to make that stuff.

The fire trucks and ambulances replaced the batteries and worked normally.

As long as the amount of food was given, it was beyond expectation. Within a block, there were three bakeries. The flour obtained here was enough for the troops to have a full meal. However, the soldiers were very disgusted. It's because there are quite a lot of bugs coming out of one place. Wheat flour that does not eat insects when distracted, but sometimes this happens because the time without human hands is longer.

“Woof. Can I eat this? ”

“I think it's emergency food. What if I'm starving to death? It's better than eating humans or mutants. ”

They were even more gruesome at the end of winter, remembering April Pacific.

“Mark them separately on the outside. Let's just take it with us, and then we can just look at the situation and throw it away. ”

Filtering the flour sacks with sieves took some time. There won't be a big problem with the heating ceremony. It's rations, after all. If we didn't get more vehicles, we'd just leave them there. Consider the psychology of people who eat more than nutrition.

I was not instructed to keep what I just saw a secret. It's a secret we'll never be able to keep.

The only grocery store in town was the crucible of corruption. There are a lot of wheels, so the soldiers dare not enter. However, there were some who took responsibility that winter would enter alone.

I noticed unusual traces inside the shelf. Among the myriad marks of insects being crushed to death, you see a particularly clean spot. It's like something's been sitting there.

‘Then again, this was a strange phenomenon. ’

I have experienced it several times, but I still don't know why. An unprecedented phenomenon at the end of the past. What do cockroaches that are not afraid of humans mean? Is it just a change to create the atmosphere……? No, unlikely. Until now, changes without a reason were rare.

At first, I thought it was trivial. But I can't help but notice it.

Half the wheels still dodge the man, while the other half flies fearlessly ahead. I can throw it out with my hands for a while. The soldiers panic as they fly blindly. What difference does it make?

“Lieutenant! Are you sure you want to search this place? ”

Winter swept through the shelves and the floor. It was a dark room, but a handful of light was enough vision. The soldiers' lanterns don't even have a clear line of sight.

Many diseases are broken. Empty sugar bags have been bitten with their teeth. Nevertheless, many seals were still intact. It was mainly vinegar or some kind of poisonous sauce. I draw the scenery of some people licking and disgusting as a test. The liquor corner was pretty good, too. The salt is half gone.

I disinfected the vinegar and alcohol with what I had to pack. Soldiers shake their heads.

At this point, the search for civilians was a crowd. Transport weight has reached its limit. Finally, I stopped by the Medical Center below downtown. There was also a shelf life for medicines, but the amount of vitamins, nutrients and antibiotics was sufficient.

“The rest of you, except for the maneuvers, pull the car back first. I think we have a long way to go today. I'll tell the captain I'll be back to EENT at the latest. ”

Winter, which dictates this, was looking up at the distant sky. A small light airplane was passing by in a distance that could never be seen by the soldiers. Follows a faint flight.

‘What? There's no reason for that to fly around this area.... ’

A little confused. It was a civilian period without a Roundel. A white coat of paint glows in the spring sun.

The winter to escort the fleet to the bridge south of the village immediately turned the riders east. This was a precautionary scout along the way for the troops, while also searching for traces of survivors. I was very concerned about the light airplane I just saw. Any unauthorized entry into an airspace near a defensive line will be immediately shot down.

You can't be messed up enough not to have the bomb range working.

The five horsemen ran ahead of the winter towards the rising horizon.

As you cross the ridge, a group of alpacas suddenly pass by. Apparently, the things that were raised on the nearby ranch survived. The strange-looking hairs fled into all directions, startled by the man. Many of the monsters that had been humans would have been chased. It was fine food, but now I've decided to ignore it. Now that you know the location, you can follow the trail at a later time.

Jinro meets the lake and breaks. The water level is very low, whether you left the water gate open when you opened the dam. Continue across the bridge that crosses over the water.

Grrrrrrr!

Maybe he fell out of the herd, or he woke up infected later. A thin variant protrudes from the site of the millstone, so winter hits and passes without slowing down. The horse's hoof follows him around the neck twice.

“Aah! Fuck! Jesus!”

Angry words. The stunned motorcade barely escapes the camel. If I had been a little better at riding, I would have jumped and avoided it, but the efficiency of Teaching was still limited.

A small basin appears as we pass through the valley about a kilometer away. Originally, it was supposed to pass through this basin and turn to the north-west, returning south and south along the 1st capital. I want to see if the road to the east or north is safe, based on a temporary node.

However, at this moment, a myriad of monsters echo in the nearby hills.

It was not a grouping of macroscopically confirmed variants. Probably covered in trees. If winter hadn't seen us, they wouldn't have found us here either. However, seeing you scream, there is a good chance that you are chasing a separate prey. Is the hunt really a wild animal?

It's hard to feel uneasy at the time of the morning funeral.

# Q&A

Q. Karphis: When I heard about the @ blockade, I remembered the Maginot Line. Like the end of the Maginot line...?

A. No way, it would be fun to watch with anxiety. No spoilers. Haha.

Q. Flying Dory: You don't get many chats from @ Fortress!! When will it appear? Heh heh.

A. The chat window will continue until you finish the paid irons episode. It's just that there are a lot of people who have a strong aversion to chat parts, not just here, but on other platforms, so I don't like to include them.

Q. Epsilon00: @ (Strategy) And I have a question. The United States is the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Isn't it dangerous to cross the blockade and also to come from the sea to Washington? And did you say earlier that the variants that emerge from different countries are slightly different? If that's the case, I think there's a difference between the Atlantic and the Pacific, as the United States is in contact with both oceans, and the military leaders are wondering if they're aware of this.

A. The Atlantic blockade is still holding. Eastern North America is safe. Citizens, rest assured, life in the business... is a joke.:)

Special variants are also different adaptations depending on the environment and resistance, so there may be new specific variants in each region. There are still quite a few countries that have not been destroyed, so the U.S. government is accumulating information.

At this point, the United States is successfully blocking the influx of overseas variants, but as I said earlier, you'll enjoy watching it anxiously.

Q. Novelis Buffer: Love @ Monday! That Russian story was inspiring... the wife and kid.

A. That's a shame.
