The Messenger of Death

Chapter 104: exiled soldiers

-Whoosh!

Nana and Alex appeared in the forest that was beside the library. "Why did we appear here instead of the insides of the library?" Alex asked Nana.

"You go ahead and get yourself a brown uniform, it is not right for a nascent cultivator to wear this sort of color. This is part of your break, enjoy it well. I will come back to you when I'm done with what I want to do."

"You were serious about giving me a break? You are not trying to pull some kind of prank on me? If I leave now you won't use it as an excuse and take me back to that forest for actually choosing to leave your side?"

"Yes, I'm serious." She smiled at him.

Alex squeezed his fist and looked in the direction of the guest inn then he looked back at her. "You are sure about this, you are not lying to me?" Alex confirmed again.

"Leave my sight before I change my mind." Before Nana could finish saying that, Alex bolted.

['Quickly, get out here before that woman changes her mind. Faster, faster.'] Al kept on chanting in his head.

['We need to leave the school's territory. That woman might be the death of me. As soon as I get my strength back, I am going to search for a mission for my team to go for. The one that would keep me away from this witch for a week or two.'] Alex couldn't take another day of her madness.

Soon he reached the guest inn and he wasted no time in stepping in.

"Kid!! Congrats, I heard the good news. You became Nana's disciple-"

"Shhh!!" Alex placed a finger on his lips and told Xiao En to be silent. "Do not speak the witch's name. That is enough to summon her here." He looked behind to see if Nana followed him to the inn.

He sighed when he saw that there was no one behind him. Alex dashed to his suite without uttering another word.

"Did Nana break the kid?" Xiao En chuckled as she asked herself…

Alex charged into his suite and locked the door behind him. "Finally." He sighed in relief.

"Alex!!" He heard the voice of his teammates call his name.

"You are alive?" Drake asked with a shocked expression And Katherine slapped the back of his head.

"We were thinking of how we could find you, Alex," Katherine stated.

Alex ignored all they had said.

"Good! You guys are here. I have something to talk to you guys about. It's about getting a mission to do." Alex uttered hurriedly.

"Ah, we already have a mission. I was lucky enough to get a great mission for us and the rewards of the mission are very good, do you want to hear the details of the mission." Camron said.

"No, no. let's leave the school today, I'm ready. You can tell me all about it on the way to where ever the mission is going to take place." Alex urged.

"Today? Are you sure? Don't you want to take a rest from the training that you had with your new master, Miss Nana?" Adrian questioned.

"Don't utter the witch's name!!! She knows when she is being called." Alex winced when he heard her name.

['Alex aren't you overreacting? She won't respond to everyone that calls her name.'] Xander pointed out.

['Overreacting? As long as her name is not being mentioned beside me then it is okay. That woman, she's. I don't even have a befitting word to use for her.']

He recollected when he called Nana a crazy woman, a few days back in the forest behind the snow-covered mountain. Nana appeared in front of him and kicked his balls.

That was the last thing remembered about that day because the pain from his nether region made him pass out. When he woke up hours after she kicked him, the first thing that Alex did was to check if his balls had multiplied.

Alex's hand, oblivious to him, went down and shielded his nether region.

['That woman is enough to give us another type of trauma.'] Al commented.

['Another alternate personality.'] Alex shuddered at the idea of that happening.

'Is he alright?' Camron wondered.

"If you are sure then we can leave in half an hour. We have been ready for days now, we were just waiting for your arrival." Camron stated.

"Then please, let it be so." Alex insisted. "Alright guys, go and make your final preparations. We would be leaving in 30 minutes." Camron advised.

"And Alex, you should go and get new sets of uniforms. You are not an origin realm cultivator anymore." He added…

30 minutes later, 6 students in brown uniform stood at the gate of the academy. It was the seraphim team. Alex had gotten himself a brown uniform and they were now heading out to begin the mission they picked.

There was a bronze-colored carriage waiting outside the school's gate. Alex saw his teammates walking towards the carriage and he followed behind them. He watched them as they entered the carriage and held his questions back until he took his seat. He was seated beside Katherine and opposite Camron.

"Why are we using a carriage this time?"

"Well, the mission I picked is a bit of a special one. Do you want to hear the details and objectives now?" Camron asked.

"Yes." Alex returned to his former demeanor. Now that he had left the school, away from Nana, he began to calm down.

"The location of the mission is Fort Cerevaux, the capital of the western continent and the main objective of this mission is to guard the daughters of the Prime minister and the daughter of the mayor."

['A bodyguard.'] Al commented.

"Cerevaux, isn't that where your home is, Camron?" Alex mentioned.

"Yes it is, but I won't have the chance to visit home. We are required to be with the clients for 3 weeks."

"The daughters of the Prime minister and the daughter of the mayor. If they couldn't use guards provided by the government then that means there is something fishy going on in the system? " Alex questioned.

"Yes. You remember those bandits that we met on the way to my home, right?"

"Yeah, I do. What about them?"

"Those bandits were exiled soldiers."

"Okay. And what does that have to do with the mission?"

"You don't know about what happened 4 years ago. One of the most respected regiments of the army started a revolt. The whole western continent was about to go on a full-out civil war, luckily their plans were unsuccessful. The soldiers that weren't killed chose to surrender and were exiled, and given the brand of a traitor that was burnt onto their skins. Now the exiled soldiers have formed a group of their own, they claim to be innocent and say that they were framed, they are demanding justice.

They tried all legal means they could to get the government's attention but couldn't, exiled people do not have rights once they have been branded. This regiment of exiled soldiers decided to be the most notorious bandits in the western continent. Businesses have been disrupted and destroyed because of them. They have kidnapped a lot of government officials and the ransom they demand is justice for their families and the heads of the prime minister and the mayor on a tray. If their conditions are not met a month from now, they vowed to destroy the whole capital, Cerevaux."

"And they think the prime minister and the mayor will gladly accept such conditions? They could have asked for money. And how do they plan on destroying the whole capital, don't tell me that the army is scared of them?" Alex scoffed at their demand.

"If the decision was left completely to the prime minister and mayor, then they would reject such conditions. But the issue is not as easy as that, the ancient-bloodline families are speaking up and they say that the situation is getting out of hand.

The gang of exiled soldiers has grown, now they are like an organization that shelters criminals of all kinds just as long as they can help them meet their goal. If they mean what they say about destroying the capital, even if they are not successful there would be catastrophic causalities, after all, they are trained soldiers that turned to criminals. The safety of millions is more important than that of two people."

"This sounds interesting. Tell me everything from the beginning, I would like to know what happened." Alex placed his hand under his chin and waited for Camron to relay the details to him…

Nana was seated on the chair beside her table, watching the students rush into the library to get what they came for. Every student that entered made sure that the noise they made was kept at minimal. They all knew about Nana's rules…

-Whoosh!!

Argus appeared in front of her table. "Why are you looking for me?" He asked her gently.

"Straight to the point, that's why I like you. Well, I have to leave the library for a while. My cute disciple thinks he can escape from me, he has left the school ground and I'm guessing it's because of a mission." Nana said.

"You should let him be, the mission his team picked is a very complex one. It has to do with the ancient-bloodline families. You know the rules, cultivators from sects or schools like ours cannot get involved in such matters. If you go with your disciple and give him a helping hand, then it will invite a lot of trouble for you." Argus stated.

"A mission connected to those dogs was given to students to do? And I thought I was the crazy one in this academy. Let me guess, it was the old man that arranged it?"

"Yes," Argus answered and tightened his jaws.

"And the team that my disciple is in just so happened to get the mission?"

"Yes." He answered again.

"That cunning old man. He is trying to get me involved in this nonsense. Don't you get it, he knows that I wouldn't let anything happen to my disciple." She sighed. "He is going to pay for this later. Get someone to watch the library till I get back. I need to watch my disciple." Nana stood up and stretched.

"If you intervene in anything then the ancient-bloodline families will come after you," Argus mentioned again.

Nana chuckled. "Those dogs are afraid of the old man and the old man is afraid of me, do you think that they would be able to do anything to me?"

"The principal is not afraid of you, he just-"

"Sure." Nana interrupted before he could complete what he was saying, then she vanished from his sight…
