The Other World Dining Hall
Fruit gratin
Time not too long after the late autumn days still rise.
Victoria stood in front of a black door that appeared at the same time as the sun rose, eating more breakfast than usual and getting herself ready.
(Today, a request was made)
Drinking a kook and a spit, across this door, I recall the 'job' requested seven days ago.
Next time, try the dishes listed as newly created, and describe what kind of dish it is, along with its name and price, on the "menu".
That is the job that Victoria was asked to do.
This task, which was once undertaken by his master, Altrius, is, in a very small part… in the other world, entrusted to Victoria only for the cooking of sweet sweets called 'desserts'.
(What the hell kind of confectionery did you make)
With my hands on the door, I wonder what kind of sweets will be served today.
Victoria likes sweets from different worlds.
Eight years ago, begged by his master, Altrius, who said he didn't like anything extra sweet, he knocked over that door and mouthed all kinds of different kinds of different kinds of confectionery, then Victoria had almost always visited the other world once every seven days and mouthed all kinds of confectionery.
So far, the confectionery of different worlds is better than the confectionery of the Principality, no, technically and tastefully.
Apparently, that perception was not a mistake, and the last few years have clearly become a number that customers who are coming through for confectionery cannot ignore either.
(According to what my master told me, eight years ago, before that shop owner started purchasing confectionery from a specialist craftsman, dessert was only of enough variety to count with one finger)
I think the most delicious are egg and milk treats called pudding, but I also think the other cakes, ice cream, and the treats I said jelly are delicious, and I look forward to the unknown other world treats again. This is why we are happy with the occasional requests.
And then, as usual, the door opens and the chillin 'chillin' and the bell rings.
In Victoria's eyes that came in, it was in a store that was well cleaned and no one yet but the shopkeeper and Aletta ready to welcome guests at any time.
"Ah, welcome. Mr. Victoria."
"Welcome! To Yoshok's Nekoya!
The two greet Victoria with a smile, who came in with the sound of a bell.
"Yeah. Good morning."
After greeting those two with a thin grin, Victoria asks.
"So, what's the dessert that you made new?
"Oh, it's the fruit gratin I'm trying to get you to eat today."
The owner gave the name of the dish to the inquiry.
I'll serve it right away, so while I drop off the shopkeeper who pulled into the back of the store, Victoria wonders what kind of food will be served.
(Fruit gratin...... what the hell kind of dish is that?
Victoria also knows a dish called Gratin.
Meat, seafood, vegetables, mushrooms, and then noodles made of wheat are mixed with a knight's sauce in a ceramic bowl, served with cheese and cooked in a kiln.
It is a dish that is not as delicious as confectionery but delicious inside, and is also a dish that has many customers to order in cold weather.
But I've never seen you put fruit in that gratin, and I don't feel like putting sweet fruit from another world in Victoria's knowing gratin would fit.
(I don't think I'm going to give you anything weird because I'm talking about the store owner...)
Victoria is not anxious to wait.
I just know Victoria and I are veterans who have been here for years.
The owner never serves dishes that at least he doesn't think are tasty.
Then I'm sure the dish called Fruit Gratin is delicious, too.
"Thank you for waiting. It's fruit gratin."
"Yeah. Thanks"
So when Aletta brought that dish, Victoria was welcoming with a natural smile.
Placed in front of me was a vessel with smaller feelings than a regular gratin.
"Be careful it's getting hot...... now take your time"
Nodding back silently and small to Aletta, who lowers her head one with such words, Victoria concentrates on the gratin in front of her.
(yellow. Isn't this the source of the knight?
That was Victoria's first thought at seeing fruit gratin.
The appearance of fruit swimming in it on a pale, brown-scorched surface was exactly Victoria's known gratin, but there are also differences.
The same is true of the fact that all the ingredients are sweet fruits, but the most striking thing is that they are yellow.
Yes, fruit gratin is made with a light yellow sauce and no cheese is used.
Looks like it's just a baked fruit and yellow sauce.
(This is probably...)
Victoria takes a small spoon.
Break the brown parsley skin stretched over the fruit gratin and save the yellow sauce and fruit inside.
Then I take the pepper and lips with my pink tongue and then carry them into my mouth.
(... still custard? No, a little different?
To the sweetness that spreads in his mouth, Victoria calmly tries to figure out who the sweet is.
First, fruit.
This was probably made into a sugar stew once.
Though the teeth and acidity of raw fruits are weakened, they are naturally much sweeter and softer than regular fruits, and when chewed, the sweet juice of the fruit overflows.
The first one I ate. This would be a fruit called peach. Bright orange, that's something you'll often see in cakes and such.
The problem was the source.
Light yellow sauce, used for dessert.
Victoria used this for pudding and all that, milk and egg sauce, custard sauce...
(Perhaps milk is not used. Instead, there is a slight aroma of wine)
The sauce is sweet and smooth. The texture is the same as that of the custard. But there was no flavor of custard milk. Whether a small amount of wine was mixed in instead, alcohol was completely flying but slightly aromatic of wine.
(... I see this is delicious)
Try rolling it in your mouth and come to that conclusion.
It's just called gratin, and its sauce is warm.
Maybe that's why I use another sauce that isn't basically a custard used for the sweets I eat chilled.
With that in mind, Victoria then turns her attention to the ingredients of this gratin...... numerous fruits.
There were countless fruits swimming in the fruit gratin. Probably all sugar-boiled.
Taste them one by one.
The first peaches I ate were soft enough for my teeth to stain the pulp as they were if I stood up, with a sweet aroma and strong juice.
When it chewed, it overflowed with tons of fruit juice and crumbled, leaving warm juice in his mouth.
The next thing I mouthed was Michele with different flavors, even in the same orange. This one also contains acidity in the sweetness and has a sweet and sour flavour.
It has a sweet, snug yellow sauce and is delicious. It also felt like the house would crumble in my mouth.
It should be noted that it was pears that could be eaten well in the Principality at this time of year that had been simmered and left with a unique flavour. Even when it was simmered, it had a unique tooth taste.
Apparently flavored with spices commonly used for confectionery called cinnamon, it was also delicious to add its flavor and aroma.
And the last thing I tasted was a fruit called bananas in the other world. It is a fruit that is soggy and has a sweetness not found in any other fruit, a kind that does not appear in the Principality. According to the literature, in the southern part of the western continent it seems to be commonly available, but I have heard that in the eastern continent it is a product that barely goes out enough to be carried in small quantities by trading vessels.
All the fruits of the other world are sweeter than the fruits Victoria knows. Simmer it softly and sweetly while leaving it flavored, soothe it with a moist egg sauce, and cook.
The slightly burnt bitterness of the surface adds to the sweetness of the sauce and fruit, drawing Victoria into the next bite.
(Again, it wasn't off)
All the treats the owner wants to add to the menu are delicious.
Once again recognizing that, Victoria kept moving until the last bite, without stopping the spoon.
- Fruit gratin. Braised fruit sugar wrapped in a sweet egg sauce. Delicious sweetness of fruit and sweetness of sauce. 4 copper coins.
After a thorough taste, I will write down what I need on the menu table that the shop owner brought me with a hands-on gesture.
"I can do it. Is this it?
"Yeah. Thank you. Thank you every time."
The store owner nods after receiving a menu written by Victoria and once confirmed.
"Good. So, pudding as usual... oh, and this fruit gratin, do you have it for takeaways?
While ordering my usual 'souvenir', I ask what bothered me.
"Oh, there is. It's delicious. When it cools, it cools down. It has a different flavour again."
To the inquiry, the shopkeeper nods and returns the words.
Freshly baked warm dishes are also delicious, but also delicious even if they are cold.
That is the dish called Fruit Gratin.
"Then that's three too. Because I want to feed my brother's kids too."
You can split about one for your nephew and niece who come to visit often these days for some reason.
