The President's Man
Chapter 193 - You can't save everyone
...
"You know, you can't save everyone," Dr. Wing said with a gentle expression as she stood by the bathroom door while watching Head Manager Han changed back into his own clothes.
"I didn't say that's my plan."
Dr. Wing sighed as she walked in to help him button his shirt, which he allowed her to. "I know that you've been contacting all the medical officers that you know as well as utilizing President Du's connections. I just want you to know that if you can't find a match, then it's fine. Even if you do, with his current condition, there's a 80% rate of rejection."
"Am I supposed to let him die just like that?" Head Manager Han asked. He had accidentally lost his control and raised his voice at her. It was not like him to do so, but when he looked at Tay Dingxuan, who had been weakened by sickness and possibly had his life shortened as well, it made him think of Han Ye when the latter was still a young boy.
Han Ye might be on the smaller size back then, but at least he was healthy...
He shook his head and mumbled, "I'm sorry..."
Dr. Wing looked up at Head Manager Han. Instead of being scared, Dr. Wing merely said softly, "He's not our son..."
Head Manager Han's jaw tightened. He clenched his fists as he tried to gain control over his emotions that were threatening to rampage again. "I know our son's death was an accident, and I have never once thought of Dingxuan as our son... But he is my nephew, distant as it might be."
"We can have another one, Xuan..." Dr. Wing whispered as she enveloped him in a hug. "I might be older now, but with the advancement in science, I-"
"No!" Head Manager Han interrupted.
He gently pushed her away as he said, "No more. I'm sorry, Wing. Just... find someone else."
Their son had come as a surprise for them. Even though their master was angry at them for breaking the rules, he had allowed the two of them to keep the child. And their son was well-loved by everyone alike... However, his time in this world was short.
No one could have seen it coming.
Sudden infant death syndrome. Everyone was excited to celebrate the first birthday of the youngest member of the group when he just passed away quietly in the middle of the night. There were no signs... or even a sound.
By the time Head Manager Han woke up to check on him, the baby's body had already turned cold.
Head Manager Han smiled at Dr. Wing as he gently caressed her cheek. "Our son's death is no one's fault, so you should move on as well. If you want to stay there because you love it, then stay. But if you're staying there because that's where our son took his first and last breathe, then don't. Stop torturing yourself..."
He then placed a kiss on the top of her forehead before walking out, leaving Dr. Wing to hug herself as she tried to remember every recent thing about him.
As he sat in the cab ride back to Hotel W, Head Manager Han could not help but think about his son. For the first time in years, he dared to truly love another person again... only for him to be ripped out of his hand just like that.
.....
The day after they cremated their son, Han Xuan had sent Dr. Wing back to the Shenlong Family. Both of them were cold-blooded assassins, and they usually hid their emotions well... But neither of them could function well that day.
After he dropped her off, he had gone for a long drive around the city. And for some reason, he drove all the way to Han Ye's place.
It was the first time he had ever visited Han Ye. From the moment he was old enough, he had asked his master for information on his younger brother, and it was sufficient for him to know that Han Ye was fine.
Han Xuan had felt a pang of sadness when he found out that his stepmother had passed away years earlier, but knowing that his younger brother was doing well gave him relief. Head Manager Han did not sleep the whole night. He merely stayed outside his younger brother's rented place until the morning.
When Han Ye came out in the morning, he actually walked past Han Xuan, who was leaning against his car, as if he were waiting for someone.
"Han Ye!" a gentle voice called out.
Han Xuan raised his head and saw a beautiful young woman run past him and into Han Ye's arms.
"You forgot your lunch..." Wu Yuexue smiled as she looked up at Han Ye. The boy she loved since young had already grown into an a.d.u.l.t, and as she looked at Han Ye's youthful face, she could not help but think happily, "I wish for another 100 years with you."
Looking at her cheerful face, Han Ye laughed softly. "You could have told me earlier. You just do it because you want to jump on me, don't you, Yuexue?"
"Are you complaining?"
"I wouldn't dare to, my boss," Han Ye said as he took the packed lunch from her and carefully put it into his backpack. He then placed a quick kiss on her lips before saying, "I'll be back late tonight. Come home straight after school, before dark, and don't forget to lock everything."
"No bad guys would dare to come with such a man like you around."
"I'm not joking around, Yuexue." He frowned and his eyes landed on Han Xuan, who immediately turned his gaze away. While staring at Han Xuan's back, Han Ye murmured, "I wish I can move us to a better place... Go back inside now."
Wu Yuexue sighed as Han Ye pushed her toward their house. "Alright..."
Han Ye waited until Wu Yuexue entered the house and locked the door. He then stared at the back of Han Xuan's head for a long time before walking away; all the while thinking about calling his neighbors to pay attention to the man standing outside their houses.
As they brushed each other, Han Ye muttered, "I hate creeps the most..."
When Han Xuan finally got back into his car, he thought with a wry grin, "This boy has grown up... At least, he's no longer a scaredy-cat."
As he drove back to the Shenlong Family training ground, he murmured, "He doesn't like creeps? Am I one?"
Somewhat annoyed that Han Ye would think of him as a creep, Han Xuan cursed softly. "That brat... Without me, would he be able to stay in the right path so comfortably?"
Yet as he got nearer and nearer to the training ground, Han Xuan could not help but think, "Can I do this forever?"
