The Queen Wicked Deeds
Chapter 144 - Gloom
"Please, don't do this, Adam. Please."
That day glimered and the sun had risen that day to show its magnificent light through the panels of the High Temple, making colorful reflections on the floor.
The doors were adorned with white flowers and the many guests inside were attired with their best clothes. It should a beautiful and festive ambiance but it was nothing but miserable.
The beautiful girl in a white long wedding dress, the one that was to be the bride that day was kneeling before the man she was supposed to marry. The one that was supposed to be her husband.
She did not mind the mocking gazes and the horrible comments from the crowd behind her. She knew they hated her. She knew they thought of her as someone disgusting but she didn't care, only the man in front of her was the one that mattered in her life.
"Please Adam," her beautiful blue eyes were pleading him with tears but the man only looked at her with coldness and indifference. Nothing more.
That handsome man in a black suit was the one that proposed marriage to her. He took her from her desperate condition and promised to love her all her life. He bowed to the Gods to take care of her and make her happy for the rest of their days. She said yes without thinking much and she was happy at his side even if his people despised her.
However, the same day they were about to marry, he announced that the wedding was canceled.
She was so happy when she walked to the altar, even if some guests didn't like her, even if they despise her, but she didn't care.
However, before the priest could say a word to the man, her fiancé turned around and canceled the ceremony. He didn't give her any explanation nor any gaze of sympathy when she fell down trying to reach for him. His red eyes were cold and indifferent, so different from before.
"Let go," his face was completely erased from any tender expression. There wasn't anger, but pure indifference and coldness. All those three years together, he had never looked at her that way. His gentle eyes had been the only ones that had accompanied her and brought her happiness.
"At least tell me, why?"
Elian's tears were already threatening to fall, her voice was cracking. She had always been a strong woman, even when her father abandoned her to her luck thirteen years ago. Even when the ones in the orphanage took her in just to let her experience what is a living hell.
However, she never cried before, and she didn't want to, not in front of all that people.
"Do you really think I would marry you?" he said in a mocking tone. "Do you really think I will sincerely love you?"
It would be a marvelous sight to see his bright smile as he was a handsome man, admired by many ladies. But this time his laugh could only send shivers to even the bravest one.
The whole country knew who he was, the powerful Duke Adam Roin, the one with the most powerful dukedom of the Country of Llor. The Kingdom was in debt with him, he was a powerful noble with the courage to lead the army and troop to the battle.
However, it came as strange news when the man suddenly appeared with a woman in his arms. A lover. He even dared to cancel the engagement with his childhood sweetheart Amanda for the beautiful woman from the north. Elian.
They couldn't deny that she was truly beautiful, almost like a fairy. Her soft long silver hair and blue pale eyes were strange in the land of Llor and many places of the world. However, she was a commoner, a woman without a family and high education.
She was humiliated several times from her lack of knowledge, not even the maids on the Duke's house gave her any respect.
Elian decided no to tell anyone but worked harder to learn the customs of Llor, to be a proper citizen, and a proper wife. Everything was a waste of time now.
"Then… why?"
Her lips were trembling, but she didn't dare to look from his face, she wanted to know why he had gone that far only to marry her and later to ditch her like some trash.
He laughed again and kneeled to whisper in her ear, "Revenge, to make the ones that killed my brother suffer, darling."
"What? I… I don't understand," Elian was confused, she was an orphan since she was four years old. Her father left her, and she didn't know anything about him.
He looked at her and smirked again. "I will give you a chance," he looked at her again with coldness.
"Leave and never come back, or else… you will know what it is to suffer," his tone was dreadful sending shivers to her back.
"Then, I will go," she looked at him for the last time, her eyes were filled with so much sadness and emptiness. She could still not believe it, but she didn't care anymore, the eyes of the man were as cold as ice, there was no love nor gentleness, only hate. She didn't care anymore.
Her body was still shaking, but her legs made a last effort for her to stand up.
Then she walked towards the end of the Temple with many eyes fixed on her. Then the whispers began again mixed with laughs and mockeries, some even threw things at her face, others tried to trip her and step on her dress and veil.
She didn't even make a sound of complaint but took off her veil and tore her dress with some strange blue energy coming from her hands, bȧrėly visible to the eye… some eyes at least. The Duke narrowed his sight and signaled two men hidden in the shadows still observing the woman.
Elian didn't know where to go, her only thought was to go back again to the north, to where she belonged.
She walked with her dress ragged and her loose silver hair while the people of the Dukedom of Roin pointed at her and whispered. She didn't care anymore. She only walked.
When she arrived at the tall entrance on periphery of the Estate, she passed without any trouble. It seemed that the knights guarding the door had been notified long ago.
She chuckled, he had planned everything from the beginning. "How foolish I was."
Now her beautiful eyes were tearing, the sadness was too intense that her mind was blurred from the overwhelming feelings and her senses were numbing. Only her fists were tightening more and more making her skin open.
If she were a bit more aware then she would have noticed the men trailing her. Only if she were a bit more focused, she would see the ones in black clothes and red tattoos on their necks, a red dragon, the symbol of the Duke of Roin.
"Now!" one of the men shouted, and they surrounded the beautiful woman.
Elian didn't know what was happening, but her eyes didn't feel any fear, instead, a rage coming from inside grew fiercer than ever. Her blue eyes shone with a dangerous glint and the seemly frail woman's face cracked.
The black-clothed men were readying their weapons and a metallic net was prepared to capture her, however, they didn't fathom that the woman they wanted to take was nowhere.
Instead, the long tail and beautiful wings of a dragon emerged. The ferociousness of the mythical creature stunned them, and when they were about to escape, it was too late. The woman's heart wanted revenge, wanted to settle the feeling of betrayal, and those men were the ones chosen to help her.
"Let me out!"
Elian screamed her lungs out. After the strange outburst of savagery, an army appeared in the forest behind her. It seemed that they were already stationed waiting for her to summon her dragon. They already knew that she will do it to save herself. They were prepared.
However, she hardly remembered what had happened next. Her memories only had blood and shouts of countless men trying to pierce her dragon's skin, trying to capture her and bring her back, breaking her bond. Though, that will never happen, not if she doesn't agree.
"Let me out!"
She screamed again. The prison she was taken to was the darkest of some castle, not sun or light could come inside, just the torches on the hallway were her only light. She was scared. She didn't know where she was, no one was around her to speak, to tell her where or why.
