Chapter 2 The Gu family

The second eldest son, Gu Dehai, married Fang Maohua, the eldest daughter of Fang Mingsheng in Xibian Village. The Fang family also gave birth to three sons and one daughter, the eldest son Gu Chengnan, the second son Gu Chengzi, the third son Gu Chengtong and their daughter Gu Chengjuan.

The third eldest son, Gu Dechang, married his wife Wan Lifeng's niece Wan Lifeng. They had twins, son Gu Chengliang and daughter Gu Huayu.

The fourth son, Gu Demin, was drafted into the military camp ten years ago and went to the border with the army. He has not been heard from for several years.

The eldest daughter, Gu Dexin, the third youngest and Gu Dechang's sister, married into the Luo family in Goubian Village, not far from Sanhe Town.

The second daughter Gu Deqin married into the Huang family in Yangliu Village.

The next day, Gu Huayu was woken up by a burst of shouting. Through the window, she saw Wu, the second aunt of her third uncle's family, standing at the door of the courtyard holding a big bowl and shouting inward.

Seeing that her family was not there, Gu Huayu turned around and went out to receive Wu.

After chatting with Mrs. Wu, she learned that today is the ninth day of April in the eighteenth year of Changping. Gu Huayu suddenly remembered that the ninth day of April in the eighteenth year of Changping was the day when A Niang passed away...

Gu Huayu rushed out of the door in panic, leaving the stunned Wu behind and ran wildly up the mountain.

Relying on his memory, Gu Huayu hurried up along the rugged path.

After a while, Gu Huayu was covered in sweat, her legs were sore, and she was panting like a stranded fish, forcing her to open her mouth wide. Despite this, she still didn't dare to stop for even a moment.

Run...continue to run...run as hard as possible...not caring about the thorns and vines damaging her clothes, shouting in her heart, faster, faster.

When she arrived at the place where her mother-in-law had an accident in her previous life, she saw her mother-in-law climbing up. Gu Huayu's heart suddenly rose to her throat and she hurriedly shouted: "Aniang! Danger!"

Wan Shi grabbed the vines on the cliff with both hands, looked back at Gu Huayu, and said in surprise: "Xiaoyu? Why are you here?"

Gu Huayu didn’t bother to explain, and shouted urgently: “Ah…Aniang, you…come down quickly.”

Seeing her daughter's impatient look, Mrs. Wan responded in a daze: "Huh? Okay, Xiaoyu, don't be impatient, Aniang will come down right now."

As he spoke, Wan pulled the vine and moved it down step by step.

The mountains under the drizzle were shrouded in mist-like water vapor, making it possible to see only the nearby scenery clearly.

Hua Yanran held her knees with both hands and panted as she looked at A Niang who came down from the height, her anxious heart settling down.

Fortunately, she rushed over and it was not too late!

"Xiaoyu, why are you here?" Wan went down to the plain and raised his voice and asked again.

Hua Yanran waved her hand, "I, I'll pick her up and take her home."

Hua Yanran was so out of breath that she couldn't form a sentence. I cursed in my heart, Damn, this body’s physique is so bad.

"Look at you, how tired you are! Stop talking and take a breath first. Let's go home after grandma collects these pigweeds." Wan Lifeng's words were filled with doting.

Hua Yanran nodded and rested on her knees for a while before she recovered.

Gu Huayu straightened up, looking with sore eyes as she was busy going back and forth in the field, carrying piles of pigweed into her basket. Chen Niang had mixed feelings in her heart. After more than 20 years, she saw her mother again.

Gu Huayu thanked God in her heart for allowing her to return to the days when A Niang was still alive.

In this life, she is Gu Huayu. She is back, back to protect her family.

Wanshi collected the pigweed scattered in the ground and turned around to see her daughter looking at her with a sad face and a glint in her eyes. He couldn't help but asked nervously: "Xiaoyu, what's wrong with you?"

Gu Huayu came back to her senses and shook her head, "It's nothing. I couldn't see my mother-in-law when I woke up, so I went up the mountain to look for her."

Gu Hua’s soft words made Wanshi feel soft-hearted, and she said dotingly: “Look, how old are you? You’re still the same as when you were a child. When you can’t see my mother-in-law, you look for her everywhere.”

Gu Huayu smiled and said coquettishly: "Xiaoyu just misses my grandma..."

Wanshi looked at her coquettish daughter with a happy smile on her face, and the lines of different shades at the corners of her eyes were like the rays of the sun.

"Okay, okay, let's Xiaoyu miss grandma. It's raining heavily. Let's go home. We have to cook when we get back. Come, help grandma hold this." Wanshi talked to Gu Huayu happily and put the He handed the sickle to Gu Huayu and used a rope to tighten the pigweed above the basket.

Gu Huayu took the sickle handed over by Wan Shi, "Okay, go home!"

As she spoke, Gu Huayu walked towards the path at the edge of the field. Her heavy feet made it difficult for her to walk.

Gu Huayu lowered her head and looked at her weight-bearing feet. The yellow mud on the soles of the shoes crawled onto the insteps. She bent down and scraped the thick yellow mud on her shoes with the back of a sickle, and her feet suddenly felt much lighter.

Gu Huayu walked to the path to wait for Wanshi, and subconsciously turned her head to look at the cliff on the side.

"Xiaoyu, are you reluctant to part with that flower? Otherwise, I'll go and pick it off." Seeing the flowers, Wan asked with concern as she looked towards the cliff.

"No, it will wither quickly after you pick it. Let it grow." Gu Huayu replied with a smile.

Wan Shi smiled and nodded, "Yes, I think you like the flower and want to pick it back. Listen to Xiaoyu and let it grow. Are you feeling better? Does your head still hurt? Wen Zai Have you eaten the porridge in the pot?" Wan asked Gu Huayu.

Wan's casual question hit Gu Huayu's chest like a huge wave, making her heart feel a dull pain. She looked at the cliff again.

It turned out that because she liked flowers, my mother-in-law climbed to the cliff to pick flowers for her, and even lost her life...

"What's wrong with Xiaoyu? Does your head hurt again? She looks so ugly!" Seeing her daughter's pale face, Wan asked worriedly while raising her hand to touch her head.

Wan's cool hand touched Gu Huayu's forehead, but her cool fingers made her feel warm.

Gu Huayu met Wan's concerned gaze and shook her head, "Don't worry, Mom, I'm fine! Let's go back."

Wan's eyes were full of worry, and she scolded: "It's a rainy day, you are not feeling well yet, you just stay at home, how come you found yourself in the mountains? Auntie will come back after cutting the pigweed."

Although they were scolding words, they felt like warm currents in Gu Huayu's ears.

Gu Huayu shook her head, smiled and said truthfully: "Seeing Aniang makes me feel at ease."

Looking at Gu Huayu who was smiling with crooked eyebrows, Wan raised his hand to smooth the broken hair on her forehead, and asked lovingly: "You! You haven't had breakfast, are you hungry?"

Gu Huayu was not hungry at all, but she nodded charmingly and said, "Well, I am a little hungry."

Wanshi said: "Let's go home!"

Gu Huayu looked at the lame Wanshi, her eyes couldn't help but turn red, fearing that Wanshi would see her, she quickly looked away and said, "Okay, go home!"

I was thinking that I would have to find an opportunity to treat my mother’s leg problem.

Wan stood on the edge and turned to warn: "Xiaoyu, you go ahead. It's raining and the road is slippery, so be careful."

Gu Huayu nodded, "Okay, thank you, Mom, I won't have to."

Wan Shi smiled and said: "You girl, why do you want to thank my mother-in-law? Let's go!"
