The Restless Spirit's Father

A strange dog grin appeared on Ruan Jin's face. He really didn't want it anymore. He couldn't make enough excuses to his own mother, and he doubted she would believe anything that he said. At this look, the three of them only made fun of him with laughter.

The door then opened again, and they were worried that they would be called out again for being too loud. However, the man who came was in a suit instead of a nurse uniform. His sharp eyes actually gazed at the four boys, one of them easily identified as the person he had to speak with. Since Ruan Jin was already twenty, he could pretty much deal with his own legal issues.

"Mr. Ruan?" The man gauged the tech guy on the bed. It was easy to say that the man was sizing up the patient already. "I am from the Legal Department of Sun Corporation. My family name is Ye. This is my card." 

The man handed out a business card, and Wen Taio received it for Ruan Jin. The four glanced at the card as if verifying that it had the company logo and person's full name. It looked legitimate with full details, but Liu Xiaodan took note of the man's name… and he was a liability officer from their Legal Department.

Mr. Ye continued, "I came here to offer our deep apologies to the unforeseen result of our program to Mr. Ruan. Cherry Medical Center had been an excellent institution that worked flawlessly over the years, and we had never encountered such a displeasing case about serious misconduct of our personnel. We are so sorry that Mr. Ruan ended up getting into unfavorable conditions that are not covered by the project contract.

"We would also like to offer substantial compensation to help you and your mom in paying for your hospitalization and other related fees and losses." He then took out an envelope and handed it to Ruan Jin.

Wen Taio took it again and partially opened it for Ruan Jin. However, when Ruan Jin pulled out the check, it was so clear that the company was hoping that Ruan Jin wouldn't take them to court. Their eyes stared at that seven-digit figure on the check. Sun Corporation was offering two million for compensation.

The three other people actually felt that the amount was so big already. They were really that caring of their clients? It's just that Ruan Jin ended up just slipping it back inside the envelope and eyeing Mr. Ye. 

He then said, "Do you know how complete paralysis feels like, Mr. Ye?"

"...I can't say I do, Mr. Ruan."

"I was completely healthy before I stepped inside your facility, Mr. Ye. Pushing aside what actually happened in the projects, I am completely fine. In just one night, I went from totally healthy to totally paralyzed, Mr. Ye. I can't even move a finger or open my jaw." Ruan Jin didn't yell in fear that he would startle his mother. "Can you imagine waking up one morning and robbed of everything that you are capable of? I can't even make a noise.

"Two million?" Ruan Jin glanced at the envelope that he weakly flapped in his hand. "Do you think two million will cover everything I had gone through? What you see is already after four doses of antidote. Do you know how much those doses cost? Not to mention moral damages, two million does not even cover a single dose." 

He then gave Wen Taio a cue to hand the envelope back to Mr. Ye because he couldn't keep his hand extended that long. The man nearest to the liability officer did so, and Mr. Ye had to take the envelope back. Ruan Jin spoke again, "Ten million, Mr. Ye. Give me ten million, and I'll reconsider."

Liu Xiaodan, Wen Taio, and Xu Disung were all secretly shocked and yet applauding in their hearts. When did their cowardly baby Jin learn to be this fierce? It was very visible in the face of the liability officer that pulling out ten million from Sun Corporation's a.s.s would be a pain. Moreover, it was certainly him trying to not undervalue himself and the pain that he had gone through.

Actually, even Ruan Jin was scared. If it was just him, he would have taken that two million. It's just that Ren Shanyue came to visit him that night. Yu Mona was already asleep on the couch when they were talking about this scenario. Ren Shanyue had indeed told him that a liability officer would appear soon and shortchange him by using seven digits.

'For someone who is offered 1.5 million for participating in a project and who is gifted with a five-million c.o.n.d.o.minium unit, are you sure you wanted to be satisfied with seven digits alone anymore?' These words came from her before she viciously grinned. 'Let's hit a new high and make it eight!'

Ruan Jin could only thank Ren Shanyue for preparing this script!

It's just that he was so sure not that he was not powerful enough to ensure victory. He was not really that assertive when it came to pseudo-diplomacy after all. He just hoped that the man would leave already so he could call Ren Shanyue for backup. It's just that… he could only dream of that perfect scenario.

Mr. Ye surely came prepared. "Mr. Ruan, we do sympathize with you, but as much as I checked on your condition, you are already feeling more or less similar when you were rushed here. Also, the dose is not billed to you at all. This dose didn't seem to have any evidence of existing either. How about this? I will give Mr. Ruan another day to think about the compensation. 

"If you manage to present receipts of the doses to me, I will do my best to recompute the damages and the overall compensation we will give you. However, I can't guarantee that it will exceed two million still. Moreover, if we go through those steps, the compensation will be handed later than necessary." Mr. Ye smiled meaningfully. "Based on my understanding, Mr. Ruan is unemployed and must be incurring debts to pay for your living expenses."

'Dammit.' Ruan Jin didn't have much change of expression on his face. He only seemed like he wanted to fight for his ten million. Then again, he didn't know how to counter those words anymore.

A chuckle came from the door, and they all turned to find Wang Yusheng at the doorway. He then walked in when he was acknowledged properly. "Sorry, I didn't walk in as soon as I have arrived. I was listening to you and heard of something rather interesting." He even extended his hand for a handshake. "I'm Wang Yusheng, Mr. Ruan's attending doctor. I believe you're from Sun Corporation?"

Mr. Ye was fooled by the friendly smile and shook Wang Yusheng's hand. Within that two seconds, Wang Yusheng didn't forget to say with a very relieved smile. "It's really good for you to arrive today. Mr. Li is hoping Sun Corporation will reimburse all his expenses on all the people you harmed."

The other man froze, but Wang Yusheng didn't let go. "I can send you all the receipts in a few minutes. Do you have a corporate email to give me?"
