The Second Empire of Azeroth
#5 - Orc Hunter
“Fall back! Don't engage!”
Black Hand roared, smashing the approaching murlocs into a bloody pulp with his spiked warhammer, charging through unhindered.
Only then did the wolf riders follow, breaking out of the encirclement.
If it weren't for their constant retreat, the dire wolves' stamina failing, and the fact that the dire wolves couldn't be armored, constantly being attacked by the murlocs, they might have broken through earlier.
After all, the combat prowess of the orcs was completely unmatched by the murlocs. In fact, even a single elite squad of wolf riders could annihilate an entire murloc tribe.
But alas, who told them to be tigers fallen into the plains?
“Rumble —”
The human knights formed a battle formation and charged, instantly wreaking havoc on any murlocs that stood in their path. There was no need for the human knights to attack; the armored warhorses trampled these little guys into oblivion.
If some cowardly murlocs hadn't noticed the knights' charge and fled in advance, these meritorious roadblocks would probably have been discarded after serving their purpose by the human knights.
John's eyes gleamed. “Roger, hurry up!”
Saying that, he sprinted along the hillside, shooting arrows at the fleeing orcs as he ran.
Roger had no choice but to quickly follow. He imitated John, shooting arrows at the orcs while running.
The precision bonus of his sharpshooting skill allowed him to have a good hit rate without needing to aim carefully. Before long, several orcs were shot down from their dire wolves and then submerged in the charging tide of knights.
Gavinrad observed the battlefield while charging. He noticed that the orcs seemed to want to escape into the forest. He immediately made a decisive decision, changing his target.
“Drive these monsters onto the main road, don't let them enter the forest!”
The knights immediately adjusted their direction, flanking the wolf riders from the side and driving them towards the main road.
How could exhausted dire wolves outrun warhorses with full stamina? Soon, Gavinrad completed the encirclement. Except for Black Hand and a dozen others who escaped into the forest, the rest of the wolf riders were all driven onto the lakeside road.
The wolf riders had no intention of fighting. Since they couldn't escape east, they would escape west. As long as they passed the triangular intersection, they could escape to Sunwood Forest. Many orcs were stationed in Sunwood Village, and they would be safe once they reached there.
However, the wolf riders hadn't run west for long when they ran head-on into Lothar and the others.
“Kill!”
Lothar immediately ordered an attack, and the Knights of the Silver Hand launched a series of charges against the wolf riders.
The wolf riders scattered and fled, breaking through Gavinrad's blockade and rushing into the forests on both sides.
Those who couldn't rush into the forest were caught in a pincer attack by Lothar's and Gavinrad's forces and were quickly annihilated.
While commanding the attack, Lothar ordered another lieutenant: “Bolvar, take men to pursue the escapees, and be careful of the monsters' counterattack.”
“Yes!”
Young Bolvar was the son of a duke, but he was already an officer in the Knights of the Silver Hand, commanding a company of knights. He immediately gathered his men, bypassed the battlefield, and went to pursue the wolf riders in the forest.
With the hope of survival, the dire wolves' speed increased significantly. Seeing the hope of survival, they were willing to run until their legs broke to escape the battlefield; otherwise, death awaited them.
Watching that he could never catch up to the wolf riders, Bolvar was a little annoyed. The forest was really not suitable for galloping on horseback, and the warhorses were armored, adding the weight of the knight, making it easy for their hooves to get stuck in slightly softer ground.
However, he was unwilling to let the wolf riders escape just like that.
In the battle just south of the stone bridge in Lakeside Town, he hadn't killed a single orc. If he didn't kill an orc, he wouldn't be able to accumulate any merit. But if he wanted to be promoted quickly, he needed outstanding achievements; slowly accumulating seniority was really unworthy of his identity as the duke's son.
Lothar also wanted to give him a chance to show off, so he sent him to pursue them.
But now that the opportunity to gain merit was about to slip away, how could Bolvar not be anxious?
Just then, a running wolf rider suddenly fell from his dire wolf. Bolvar was overjoyed and immediately urged his warhorse to accelerate, his lance piercing through the orc's chest and hoisting him up.
Bolvar was a little annoyed, but he didn't dwell on his annoyance. Instead, he looked around.
Sure enough, he spotted two humans with bows and arrows on the ridge not far away. It was the Keshian brothers.
Only now did he remember that these two brothers had actually completed that unbelievable roadblock mission, and he couldn't help but marvel in his heart. At the same time, he developed a sense of admiration, because he couldn't have done it if he had been asked to be the roadblock.
Although he had the pride of a nobleman, he would not be jealous of others' strengths. More importantly, no matter how excellent these two were, they were just commoners and could not threaten his position at all. He could even use these two commoners, paying only a good attitude.
Thinking of this, Bolvar immediately shouted to the two brothers: “Keshian brothers, shoot their mounts, don't let them escape!”
“Yes, sir!”
John loudly agreed and decisively turned his attack target to the dire wolves. His archery skills were not good enough to easily shoot the orcs on the dire wolves, as the targets were relatively small. But when shooting the dire wolves, the larger targets, his hit rate would significantly increase.
Sure enough, after adjusting his target, John shot down several dire wolves in a row.
Bolvar led his men to rush up and kill the orcs who had fallen to the ground.
In a few minutes, Bolvar lost sight of the orcs and could only return near the ridge, cutting off the orcs' heads as a mark of their battle achievements.
And only then did he realize that the orcs they had killed were not even half as many as the orcs shot down by the two brothers.
These two brothers were indeed not ordinary people.
Bolvar waited for the two brothers to come down from the mountain and immediately gave a knight's salute. “Thank you, brave warriors! We were able to win this war with minimal casualties thanks to you both!”
John was overjoyed to receive praise. “Hahaha, of course! Roger and I are the most powerful hunters in Lakeside Town!”
Roger rolled his eyes behind him. Fortunately, bragging didn't require taxes, or else the Keshian family would probably go bankrupt.
If he hadn't been there to take care of him, this troublemaker John would have died long ago.
This troublemaker!
Forget it, I can't be bothered with him.
Roger opened the system, and these words flashed on his title.
Orc Hunter: Elite title, when fighting orcs, there is a certain chance to discern the orcs' weaknesses.
