The Second Empire of Azeroth
#67 - Breath of Deathwing
With everything prepared, humanity launched its final offensive.
The dozens of defense lines the Orcs had established on Blackrock Mountain simultaneously faced the onslaught of humanity. Powerful paladin generals like Turalyon, Uther, Saidan Dathrohan, Tirion Fordring, Gavinrad the Dire, and Mograine were all courageous in battle.
However, even more courageous were the independent armies of each nation. They all had their own agendas, wanting to seize more merit and prepare for post-war negotiations.
The most valiant of them all was the Kingdom of Alterac.
King Aiden Perenolde of Alterac, born into a wealthy family, was not a competent ruler. He was hedonistic and pessimistic. After learning about the strength of the Orcs from the Stormwind nobles, he always believed that the Alliance would be defeated by the Horde, so he was unwilling to join the Alliance. Dominated by this pessimistic mood, he sent people to contact Orgrim, promising to cause trouble within the Alliance and hinder its progress.
He formulated a series of plans, creating rebellions in Tyr's Hand and assassinating the commander of the paladins, Uther…
However, to his surprise, Orgrim was captured in Quel'Thalas.
Aiden panicked. If Orgrim told the Alliance about his collusion with the enemy, then Alterac would inevitably face a purge after the war.
Therefore, he ordered the generals of Alterac to make contributions and great achievements, so that he could preserve his throne after the war.
Next were the armies of Stromgarde.
King Thoras Trollbane of Stromgarde was an ambitious man. He always believed that the Kingdom of Stromgarde, which occupied the old capital of the Arathor Empire, was the true heir to the human kingdoms, so he always wanted to seek more land and people. The emergence of the Orcs gave him this opportunity. Thoras vigorously promoted the establishment of the Alliance and sent out all the regular troops of Stromgarde.
He not only guarded the coastline of Stromgarde, but also sent troops to support the Thandol Span, helped the Wildhammer dwarves defend Northeron, and even sent troops deep into Loch Modan to compete with the Orcs for the territory of the Badlands. The Orcs were forced to divert a large number of troops in the war with Stromgarde. In this regard, Thoras did have remarkable achievements.
But he was not satisfied with this, he also wanted to divide more benefits after the war. So, he ordered Dalass to spare no expense to eliminate the remaining Orcs.
Thirdly, there were the armies of Gilneas.
Genn Greymane did not want to join the Alliance, because the geographical environment of Gilneas was very superior. Although it was a peninsula, Gilneas's long coastline had countless reefs. Only those familiar with the sea route could bypass the reefs and land on Gilneas's territory, which the Orcs obviously could not do. Therefore, Gilneas only needed to defend the land on its back to ensure the safety of the entire country.
Within a year after Lothar arrived in Lordaeron, Gilneas did not join the Alliance, but instead added to the walls guarding against beasts in the north, building the tall Greymane Wall.
When the Alliance defeated the Orcs at the Thandol Span, Greymane saw the hope of the Alliance winning. Therefore, he joined the Alliance, seizing the fruits of victory while avoiding being targeted by other human kingdoms after the war.
He sent Lord Godfrey to command the Gilnean army, telling him to just go through the motions. But this Lord Godfrey had his own plans. He wanted a higher position and a higher title.
Therefore, after the counter-offensive began, Godfrey led the Gilnean army to compete for bravery in every battle. Although the losses were great, Godfrey quickly entered the eyes of the Alliance high command and soon gained the right to lead troops independently.
The attack on Blackrock Mountain was the final battle, the last chance for Godfrey to gain merit. Whether he could go further depended on this time, and Godfrey would certainly not let it go. As for the dead soldiers, they could be recruited again.
Roger and Vereesa also flew up the mountain, preparing to continue to cover the Alliance army on the ground. Just at this time, the sky suddenly became gloomy, and dark clouds covered the sky. Red lightning flashed in the dark clouds, emitting a terrifying aura.
A gryphon squad under the dark clouds was attacked by red lightning. Before they could even dodge, they were burned to ashes.
"What is this?" Vereesa asked in surprise.
Roger's expression was solemn, "Lower altitude, stay away from the dark clouds!"
Vereesa took out a whistle and issued an order, and the dragonhawk riders gradually approached the two. After a while, Kurdran also came with the gryphon riders, "Rogers, is some kind of magic brewing there?"
"I'm not sure, but it's better to be careful!" Roger scanned Blackrock Mountain and pointed to a hill and said, "Let's land there and continue to cover our allies."
Everyone nodded and landed on the hill that Roger mentioned. This hill was high enough to support about half of the Alliance army.
After landing, Roger immediately shot a signal arrow to notify Lothar of his location.
Soon, several magical glows flashed, and Antonidas teleported over with several mages. He took out a magical item in the shape of a watchtower. After pouring magic power into it, a watchtower model appeared on the top of the mountain, and then quickly filled with bricks. In less than a minute, a watchtower appeared in front of everyone.
"Let's go up!"
Antonidas took the lead into the watchtower, and Roger and others followed.
When they reached the top of the watchtower, Antonidas activated a defensive spell, and the other mages felt relieved to cast spells.
Roger and the rangers also provided remote support, and soon helped the main force of the Allied forces open a road up the mountain. However, the watchtower quickly attracted the attention of the Orcs. At the top of Blackrock Mountain, a team of Dark Iron dwarves rushed over, casting spells to harass the watchtower while summoning a large number of fire elementals to attack the dwarves guarding the watchtower.
Although the dwarves had skin like rock, they still couldn't withstand the burning of the fire elementals, and soon some people were injured.
Roger hurriedly jumped down from the watchtower, used Windwalk to approach the Dark Iron dwarves, and repeatedly used Counterspell to interrupt the Dark Iron dwarves' summons.
However, Roger's Counterspell was ineffective on a Dark Iron dwarf in gorgeous clothes. The Dark Iron dwarf showed a strange smile and summoned a huge fire elemental that rushed towards Roger.
Roger's heart palpitated. He ignored the fire elemental and took out the Dragon Soul, aiming it at the Dark Iron dwarf.
He felt the aura of Deathwing on the Dark Iron dwarf!
