The Secret Code of Monsters

Chapter 234 Ch.233 Ending

That letter never flew back.

This is the view of a few people after ten days - of course, most of the gentlemen and ladies who have invested all their wealth still have full expectations for the 'mysterious financial institution':

They spoke for it everywhere, saying that there was just too much money and the organization couldn't keep running. They said it was an ocean storm, bad weather, a ship broke down, there were pirates on the route, and another country was at war—

Various reasons.

They firmly believe that one or several of these reasons must have delayed their return. Soon, maybe next month, the letter will be lying in the mailbox, or the newsboy will find the servant and deliver the letter with the fragrance of roses in his hands. A letter with elegant words and beautiful fonts.

They believe it.

And Isaac Brown was already in dire straits.

He owed money to the Chloe family, owed money to many gentlemen and ladies, mortgaged all his property, and "falsely" borrowed a large sum from Paloyemed.

Not to mention the 'interest' he promised these people, the loan from Paloyemed alone would be enough to blow him to pieces after being detonated.

He scolded his greed in his heart, but at the same time he held on to a glimmer of hope:

I’m not sure, the agency said the same thing, so what’s the reason for the delay?

He was not in the mood to perform operations or treat patients, so he got drunk in the office and stumbled home.

The wife and son remained docile and allowed the servants to prepare dinner.

After sitting down, the whole family was silent.

The wife obviously knew what happened, but the son was just terrified by the depressing atmosphere.

My father was never like this.

But recently, he gradually lost his smile.

After drinking every night, my mother's face was covered with bruises and fine blood marks the next day.

"Ma'am, sir."

The servant brought dinner, but was immediately dismissed by the woman.

There was only a family of three left in the restaurant.

"The hospital has been very busy recently."

Isaac Brown muttered. He caught a glimpse of the strangulation marks on his wife's neck and her red and swollen eyeballs, and his heart was full of regret: "...I will take care of it, Mary."

Mary Brown forced a smile and lowered her head.

The knife cut into the porcelain plate, making a tooth-piercing sound.

But tonight Isaac Brown wasn't angry about his son's lack of discipline. He was tired, very tired. All kinds of pressure piled up in his heart, like a mountain that he couldn't turn over, almost crushing him into pieces.

"well…"

He sighed and put down his knife and fork.

"Isaac."

His wife suddenly called him.

"Isaac."

Her injured eyes were full of tenderness and sadness: "...let's run away."

Click.

The hands of the dark green Dutch clock on the wall jumped lightly, and a clapping puppet popped out of the small door.

"What?"

"I said," the wife mustered up her courage and stretched out the light blue tendons on the back of her hand holding the silver table knife: "Let's escape! Isaac, my love, let's leave at night, okay?"

"We fled to Bristol and left by boat - where in the world couldn't we do that?"

"You are a medical genius. We will definitely live a good life. We don't have to be in London..."

Boom.

The son put the tea cup on the tablecloth and looked at his mother and then his father, wondering what the words 'run away' meant.

"We have nowhere to go..."

Isaac Brown lowered his eyes.

Now, he has completely fallen into the abyss of guilt about his wife.

How roughly he had treated her in recent days...

And now, she is so attached to and in love with him...

Isaac Brown felt deeply about his shamelessness and incompetence. The fists he waved and the candlesticks he raised now all turned around and hit his flesh and blood.

He seemed to be in shackles, froze in his chair, with his fists on the dining table, letting the bright candlelight expose his shameful and immoral behavior to his wife and son.

He was an incompetent father who brought disaster to the family.

"I'm climbing a cliff...Mary."

He aged many years in an instant, and the eternal fire in his eyes lost the fuel of ambition and greed, and was gradually blown out by sighs.

"I thought, I thought I could climb up, dust off the dirt on my body, and become a refined upper class person from now on..."

The wife covered her mouth, lowered her head, and kept shrugging her shoulders.

She burst into tears, but she was afraid that speaking out would aggravate her husband's pain.

"I thought I could..."

But he can't.

A scam, which he still didn't think was a scam, took away all the wealth he had worked hard to accumulate so far - as well as the future wealth he overdrafted at his own expense.

Everything, everything is gone.

It's all over.

He still remembered the happy laughter of the head of Paloyemed when he met with him a few days ago:

They talked about the country, women, where society should go, monarchs, and parties. They talk about how to guide the ignorant and stupid people at the bottom, making them obediently obey their opinions, share the same hatred and roar in the direction of their whips.

Like a faithful hunting dog.

It was such a beautiful afternoon, as if all the days to come would be like that day.

But now.

The oriole cries in the middle of the night.

Flickering candlelight.

A timid and cowardly son.

A wife covered in bruises and crying silently.

A family about to be broken up.

These are all his fault.

Isaac Brown.

Why did you believe such a stupid scam?

When he beat his wife, he always didn't like to see her eyes that said "believe me, dear, it's a scam". He hated this stupid woman.

How much he hated her before, how much he regretted now.

The impeccable hands swung, calculating the time of the end of the world.

Isaac wiped the corners of his mouth like a gentleman and put down the silk cloth.

"I will not let the debt spread to you and the children, Mary, my love."

Isaac Brown's eyes were firm.

He went to the study and left a message at the desk.

He did his best to explain the secrets he knew. After coming out, he folded it several times and put it in an envelope.

Give it to his wife.

"This is the 'secret' of the Chloe family and some of its affiliated families... some important things I accidentally heard from Namins Chloe when I was working with him. Mary, keep this letter, take our son, and leave at night."

Mary grabbed her husband's shirt tightly and shook her head.

"No! Isaac, no! I will never leave you... When we got married, I swore that I would never--"

Isaac looked at his wife, and the extinguished ashes in his heart could still feel the residual warmth.

Isaac Brown.

He has been blind for so many years.

The one who loves you the most is still Mary in front of you.

Just like before.

"Believe me, with this letter, someone will protect you and get you out of this matter...No one can ask you for a debt, Mary...I beg you, even for our children."

He spoke sincerely, and tears flowed from his eyes.

"Let me beg you..."

"Mary."

"Live well with our children."
