The Stars In Your Eyes

Jian Kang Lu finished his patient visit for today. He doesn't have any meeting or resident's presentation today but in 3 hours he will start his clinic schedule, thus it was not efficient for him to go home. 

He wished he could have more time in between his visit and clinic schedule, so he could go home and cuddle with his kitten before the afternoon clinic started. With 3 hours, he decided to spend 1 hour in the gym first. From the hospital to the gym only took 30 minutes walking. While running, Jian Kang Lu looked at the window outside and decided to call his kitten.

"Baby, what are you doing?"

Hearing some panting and faint sound of the machine, Bai Yutang knew his lover was in the gym. He felt resentful for his lover when he looked at his own flabby tummy.

"I'm at home, gege. Just finish preparing today's dinner. Are you running on a treadmill?"

"Mm.. I have a little bit of free time, but not enough to come home. You're not planning to go out today?"

"I'll exercise too! Wait, i'll change my pants." 

Jian Kang Lu didn't know why his kitten sounds not happy, but then they exercise together even not physically side by side. His kitten decided to ride his bicycle in the park. They talk about games and today's news while exercising. 

Jian Kang Lu smiled, again and again he felt grateful meeting someone as great as his kitten. He experienced a relationship where his partner complained why he went to the gym instead of spending more time with his partner. His kitten never complained about that.

Spring has come, his kitten got his diploma already and is entering job hunting mode. Jian Kang Lu had offered his kitten to help him connect with Zhen Guo. Jian Kang Lu was sure his kitten was capable of snatching a job there. But his kitten refused him.

"I want to try looking for a job by myself, gege." His kitten told him that with resolute eyes. How could Jian Kang Lu push him? Basically, it doesn't matter to him whether his kitten works or not, but Jian Kang Lu knows his kitten will not be satisfied just to stay at home and do nothing.

It's not easy for architects to get a decent job in an architect firm lately. His kitten had told him he won't be picky and will work anywhere to get experience and fill his resume. He saw how his kitten opened the job searching application and sent his resume to many places. After three weeks without feedback, his kitten started to send his resume to non architect companies.

Once Jian Kang Lu asked him why his kitten sent his resume to a non architect company too. Does his kitten didn't dream to be an architect? His kitten smiled, and answered in a flat tone.

"As long as I can get a job, no matter where, i will work."

Bai Yutang didn't tell his lover that he wished he could get a job before his birthday. April has come along with flowers blooming and leaves lavishly grew celebrating the cycle of life. Bai Yutang told his grandparents he wants to work here in B city. So if he could not get a job as soon as possible, how could he answer them?

He diligently scans everyday for job opportunities in his class group chat, as well as sending messages to his friends, hoping they could give him good news about job opportunities in their firm. But until now he got nothing. Fei Hong, who got her diploma 2 week earlier than him, had given up and decided to work in an interior design company. She will start next week.

Bai Yutang knows the easiest way for him to get a job is accept his lover's offer to contact Zhen Guo. His friends also told him there's nothing wrong with using connections to get a job. Who doesn't do it nowadays? It was not like him had no skills nor capability. 

But Bai Yutang just doesn't want to. Maybe, maybe if he still can't find a job in the next two months, then he will give up. But not now.

Bai Yutang meets his friends once or two times a week. At first he felt happy to hang out with them. But the more he spent time with them, the more he felt restless to get a job immediately. Listening to them lamenting about working over time, and comparing with himself who idle at home, raises a seed full of envy in his heart.

Bai Yutang rarely goes out, he only goes out under his lover's concerned eyes. His lover always told him to go out and have fun. When he finished bathing after exercise and continued to cook, he thought it might be nice to have lunch together with his lover tomorrow. 

Just when Jian Kang Lu thought his life and happiness was at its peak, he could never be more wrong. His kitten suddenly asked him at dinner time, whether it was comfortable for Jian Kang Lu spending lunch together with his kitten. Of course he nodded frantically after stupefaction for some moments. 

On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, he only spends his time with his kitten for 2 - 3 hours per day. But now, he spends an extra hour when they have lunch together.

The nurses and nephrologists in the hospital now found Doctor Jian always finish his patient's visit before 1 pm and gone in a flash. Doctor Jian also smiles more often and is always in a good mood. His residents hurriedly finish their paper so the good mood Doctor Jian will give them better grades.

His kitten's birthday is just in the next two weeks. Jian Kang Lu had prepared his gift. It's a new limited edition leather backpack and 3 days vacation to Z city. Rising from the subtropical and temperate forests, Z city has a concentration of quartzite-sandstone formation found nowhere else in the world. With 234 peaks and more than 3000 pinnacles and spires dominate the scenery. It caught the right light when the early morning mountain mist rolled in around them. Jian Kang Lu has been there, the effect is otherworldly.

Jian Kang Lu is a typical man who don't have creative idea when choosing gift to other people, including his partner. He only thought about the practical things they will need and gave gifts accordingly. 

"Gege, I have good news." His kitten sounds excited when they have lunch together in this Italian restaurant near the hospital.

Jian Kang Lu wants to guess that the good news is his kitten finally received feedback from those hundreds of resumes he sent, but Jian Kang Lu was afraid it would trigger his kitten's bad mood. After his kitten's fury two months ago, Jian Kang Lu now chooses his words carefully.

"What is that, baby?" He asked innocently.

"The F firm sent me an email telling me to come next Tuesday for an interview!"

Jian Kang Lu is truly happy for his kitten. He congratulated him and listened to his kitten chattering about F firm. Turns out it was a mediocre firm, but not a small firm. His kitten told him that it has a good reputation. From his kitten's reaction, Jian Kang Lu can guess that what his kitten told him before about him will be okay if he getting a job other than architect was a lie.

"I also have news. Let's spend your birthday in Z city. I took 2 days leave. We'll go early on Friday morning, and come back on Sunday. How is that?" 

Right now Bai Yutang is happy beyond words. He knew, this is only an interview opportunity, but he won't waste it. Add that with a short vacation with his lover to one of the beautiful places in this country, he was over the moon.

Their vacation went well. Bai Yutang truly felt his life was blessed. He had a lover who loved him like he was the best human in the world. They have been together for 2 year, and the relationship grew even better day by day. His lover's family was good to him, his family also lived well. 

He graduated this year, and the best birthday gift is right when he turned 24, he got notification from an F firm that he managed to get a job there and expected to start working on Monday, just right after their vacation finished.

"I feel so lucky, gege! Just one interview and I managed to get the job."

Jian Kang Lu stroked his kitten's hair softly when they walked to see the famous glass bridge. Here, they could walk intimately. No one knows them here, and he doesn't care if some people stare at them with questions. He even holds his kitten's waist tightly when they walk through the bridge. Luckily none of them have acrophobia.

Actually, it was only natural for Bai Yutang to pass his interview smoothly. He has good grades, graduated from the best architecture in the country, decent looks, and most of all, Bai Yutang was trained how to answer the questions in his interview by Fan Mingle, the iron lady in the HR department from one of the best banks in the country.

Bai Yutang spent 2 hours in the Sunday lunch before his Tuesday interview, watched by the whole family of his lover, just like when he rehearsed his thesis presentation. He felt grateful that his lover's family were really kind people who supported him well.

On the other side, Jian Kang Lu was not really happy with that, but he also can't do much when his kitten was the one who surrender himself to this kind of torture. Deep inside his heart, Jian Kang Lu ached to see how his kitten's sweating and answering the same question over and over again.

Jian Kang Lu always thought his sister in law was a cheerful and calm lady, but now he could see how ruthless his sister in law was when he interviewed her subordinates. Luckily in her position now, she didn't interview many people anymore.

Jian Kang Lu remembers his sister in law smacking her lips to find his kitten's english skills was below her standard. She told his kitten that she always does interviews in English and it would be a red mark if the applicant could not respond well. Jian Kang Lu hurriedly defended his kitten, but was attacked by his brother and father.

Jian Kang Lu can't believe his stoic brother attacked him with his own words years ago. "Gege, don't you remember what you told me when my english proficient test was lower than you?" Jian Kang Lu admits his defeat instantly to his little brother, preventing him from repeating those words in front of his kitten.

At that time, he was mocking his little brother with a smug face. "Ah Se, tsk tsk tsk.. How could you get a decent job with that english of yours? It was even worse than me when i was in high school. I bet you will only embarrass yourself later. You better study again, take extra courses, study harder to improve yourself." All the while Jian Kang Lu was saying that, he was waving his proficient level test which scored almost perfect in front of his brother's face.
