When I woke up, I saw a familiar ceiling. The texture of the blanket was a little stiff and the light coming in through the small window made the dust glisten.

It seemed that it was still light outside. Besides, I was in my bed in my room. Maybe everything that happened until now was just a dream.

As I tried to move my body, I felt a sharp pain. The bones in my body creaked and my internal organs ached as if they were being gouged out. It made me realize that what I had just experienced was not a dream.

I must have fainted when Alice stopped me that time. That means that I ended up collapsing before I could improve Claire’s opinion of me.

“Oh my God! What should I do?”

I shouted at the sudden anxiety that came over me, and my body jumped as intense pain shot through my body.

“Oh my God!”

I screamed out in pain, and the pain returned. I was in a hellish loop of screaming again.

‘It hurts, it hurts, it hurts!’

As I was writhing in agony, I heard the loud sound of the door opening. I turned my eyes reflexively and saw Yulis rushing toward me.

“Are you all right, Master Chris?”

Yulis crouched down in front of the bed and fixed her beautiful silver eyes on me.

“No, I’m not okay.”

Yulis breathed a sigh of relief and patted her chest.

“I’m glad you can talk.”

Her words were harsh, but I could tell from her soft tone and the dark circles under her eyes that she was worried about me. He waited until the pain subsided before asking,

“Why am I here?”

Yulis tilted her head slightly, wondering where to begin, and then paused before answering.

“I was on my way back from the capital and I went to watch the mock battle.”

“You were there?”

“Yes, I was. And when I thought the mock battle was over, I tried to see Chris-sama.”

“That would not have been an easy meeting.”

When I said that to her, she looked away as a stern look came back to her.

“Yes. I had a hard time not seeing the battle in the distance, or even at the closing ceremony held in front of the nobles’ seats at the end.”

“So, Yulis searched for me and found me lying in a first aid tent.”

Yulis looked at me accusingly and then nodded.

The mock battle was fought by the children of the nobility, so the medical system was exaggeratedly well organized. Of course I would have been taken there. But why am I now here instead of in a tent?

“Why am I here?”

“It’s because Chris didn’t wake up.”

“I see. I don’t think they can keep the doctor that long.”

I don’t know how you managed to carry a sick man to your parents’ house.

“It just so happened that one of my old employers, a great nobleman, was in the house, so I swayed him with his weakness……and, after some difficulty, I borrowed his finest carriage and had the doctor accompany me.”

“Thank you for that……”

She probably blackmailed him, scraped off his carriage, and kidnapped the doctor. However, I thanked her for her kindness, because she was thinking of me.

Besides, I suddenly remembered that it was quite a distance from the venue of the mock battle to here, even by carriage. I don’t know how long it has been since I became unconscious but I’m pretty sure my body is still damaged since I didn’t wake up until now.

“Really, Claire is too strong…….!”

“Yulis! I want you to listen to me! The territory is in trouble!”

“What kind of trouble?”

The Marquis of Alcala may withdraw his hand from our land!”

When I finished telling her everything that happened during the mock battle, Yulis put her hand on her chin like a thinking person. Then she started talking about something that had nothing to do with Claire.

“The first thing I want to ask you is, are you sure that the men in black had accents from other countries?”

“Huh? Well, yes.”

“Are you sure about that?”

“Yes. But what does it matter?”

When I asked, Yulis began to tell me her speculation.

“I didn’t think that place would be chosen for the mock battle when I was researching the land.”

“That’s right. I didn’t think it would be a good place for Alice to get hurt either.”

“The place is next to the House of Orrard estate. Duke Orrard is engaged to the princess of the neighboring Topo Empire.”

That’s right. It was also in the scope of the last history test I suffered from. But what does it matter?

“If the men in black are from the Orrard House that means that another country is involved.”

After being told that much, I realized something.

The men in black were clearly targeting Alice. That would mean that they were trying to kill a member of the royal family. I thought it was a power struggle between the Prime Minister and the King, but after seeing that secret meeting, I didn’t think that was the case.

So, it must have been the sole decision of the Orrard House but I don’t understand why they wanted to assassinate her.

“I don’t know what their purpose is either, but I do know that there seems to be some movement between the Orrard House and the Topo Empire.”

Yulis said this and looked at me. Then she noticed something, moved her eyebrows for a moment, and then stood up.

“There’s no use thinking about it so much, Chris-sama, go back to sleep. By the time you wake up, my brother and I will have come to a conclusion.”

When I thought about it, my voice came out of its own accord.

“Yulis, thanks for taking care of me.”

Yulis, who was out of the room, turned around and rolled her eyes.

“I’ll take your word for it.”

Then she walked over and for some reason squirmed her way into my bed.

“Why don’t you go to your room and rest?”

“I’m sorry, but I’m at the end of my rope. I can’t move anymore.”

“You were trying to get out of the room earlier, weren’t you?”

Every time Yulis touched me, my body ached and I wanted to get rid of her, but I was injured and there was nothing I could do.
