The System of a Vampire
61 The Blood Thickened
Draig followed behind Agris, his eyes scanned his surroundings along the way not entirely convinced of what the old man had said. In his mind it was a trap that he had managed to escape on his own merit and in a sense he wasn't wrong as the library wouldn't release someone until they had completed what it felt was lacking.
The library was one of the great wonders of the Vampires as no one was quite sure how it functioned or if there was some other force that determined when and who it revealed itself. Draig happened to be one of the lucky ones who had been permitted entrance and he had grown from the encounter but not as one would expect. He saw no rise in his level as much as he grew in intellect and battle sense, in his eyes even Zarra would be hard pressed to fight him but that was merely speculation on his part as he had yet to see the true depths of the Mage's power.
Agris was using his senses to monitor Draig and he was steadily increasing the pressure that his special power held over those with a weaker bloodline. It was to his shock that he found that his Blood Burning was having almost no effect on Draig yet, while this should have alarmed him it did nothing but bring him a sense of elation.
'Finally an heir with a thick Bloodline' thought Agris as he once again increased the pressure but still there seemed to be no effect.
Draig was unaware of this though he felt a tingle but it was nothing in his eyes as he still kept watching the surroundings. It was such that even Draig was unaware of the changes in his bloodline, but if it had been another of his kind they would be none the wiser. The only explanation would be the library and it's teachings having some kind of subconscious effect of purifying and thickening the blood.
Finally the duo made it to the study to find Balethor sitting at a desk with a second seat next to his, Agris calmly took it and offered Draig the one opposite of the two.
"We have much to discuss Drevitch, I assume you found the library of the founder" asked Agris with a bit of excitement.
"I have no idea what your talking about, but I can only guess that is the case" answered Draig though he kept his eyes focused on Balethor.
"This is good, excellent even. This is the chance our branch has been waiting for, tell us what did you find in there that was crucial to your development" asked Agris with excitement gleaming from his eyes.
"I don't know, it wouldn't let me out until I finished reading the books inside" answered Draig causing the two old men to sputter for a moment.
"You mean it let you read multiple books" asked Balethor with interest.
"No, I mean it made me read all of them" stated Draig and his eyes seemed to glow ominously when he spoke.
The two old men seemed as if they had seen a ghost for but a moment before they started laughing like a pair of loons. Soon there laughing became sobs of joy as they thanked the founder and those deities that had watched over them and blessed them for this opportunity.
"Drevitch this is perhaps the most important thing that has ever happened since the founding of the clan" began Agris as he managed to calm himself enough to talk.
Draig said nothing as he decided to listen to what the old man had to say.
"The library holds the secrets of our founder and his son Dracule, the information in there is far moreadept than what the different branches of the clan use in this day and age. What you see now are merely the watered down remnants that haven't been lost to the ages as the crucial techniques have been" continued Agris hoping to see the understanding in Draig's eyes.
"This chance that has been given to us will lead the whole branch to rise and perhaps become the new Imperial branch. This is all thanks to you Drevitch, we need to start sharing the knowledge you have gained with the rest of our branch" laughed Agris but it was cut short.
"Excuse me?" asked Draig quirking a brow at the presumptuous insinuation made by the old man.
"What are you exhausted, that is fine we can begin after you have recuperated" started Agris but it seemed Balethor had caught on his face stiffened into a serious look.
"I won't be sharing anything, I alone was permitted entry and allowed to read that places contents to completion. If others wish to learn let them try their chances of gaining access, what I have is mine alone and those who wish to gain it will find that I am not the little dandy that can be lead like a horse to water." stated Draig turning his back on the two heads with the intent to leave the study.
"We didn't say you could leave Drevitch" started Balethor as a static sensation filled the room.
"I don't recall ever having needed permission before" stated Draig as a similar lightning crackled around Draig's elegant claws.
"My thunder" cried Balethor in shock.
"No, my lightning" said Draig calmly as the old man was struck in the same way he had tried Draig previously but the difference this time was the success.
"Like you said, what the clan uses now are merely watered down remnants. What I have is the real deal, another way to look at it is I am the origin and you are an annoying little imitation clinging to my greatness." explained Draig as it dawned on the old men what was happening and Elisa's words seemed to come back to them in this moment.
'This boy is not normal' thought Agris as the excitement he had previously was thoroughly extinguished but he refused to let some new blood have his way.
'Even if you could have risen our branch I will not allow you to get away with this humiliation' thought Agris in unison.
The name Bloodburn wasn't just for his ability, he was known among the higher ups for having a tendency to cull unruly talents that wouldn't fall in line.
"Good day heads" stated Draig leaving a clacking marking his steps.
