The Tang Dynasty’s Female Forensic Doctor
Chapter 79.2
Ran Yunsheng couldn’t help getting annoyed when looking at his hasty and stumbling figure. He snorted, but considering Ran Yan’s feelings, he only said: “As it turns out, Sang Sui Yuan can only amount to this. Ah Yan, let’s go.”
Ran Yan knew that Sang Chen didn’t dislike her. She reckons he had the urge to vomit, but feared he would be committing a breach of etiquette in front of others. Little did he know that he had already offended someone.
Although well aware of it, she casually took Ran Yunsheng’s topic and replied, smirking: “Are you only aware of this now?”
Ran Yunsheng stood there dumbfounded, remembering that he had previously been wholeheartedly wanting Sang Chen to go propose marriage to Ran Yan. Knowing that Ran Yan was making fun of him, he couldn’t help raising his finger and flicked her smooth forehead, “You dare laugh at Tenth Brother, be careful not to get punished for your naughtiness!”
The two chattered and laughed while walking back to the courtyard.
As to not waste any time, Miss Xing had already packed what should be packed and put it in the carriage. The one who was having to work hard was Wan Lu; after passing the whole day running around and doing chores, she still had to carry on with this rushed journey.
Ran Yunsheng had assigned six carriages to come over, and Ran Yan singled out one of them for Wan Lu; she had a soft mattress spread inside and also placed a basin with ice, ordering her to lie down and rest properly.
“I’ll escort you until Ying Mei Nunnery, then I’ll stay the night at a temple not too far from it.” Ran Yunsheng had long planned it out.
Ran Yan, however, expressed: “There’s no need for Tenth Brother to escort me, I would like to ask your help with another matter.”
“What matter?” Ran Yunsheng couldn’t think of anything that could be even more important than sending her off.
“Since I’ll be going to Ying Mei Nunnery, it is not very suitable for shifu to continue living in the village. Tenth Brother, help me look for a good place in the city or nearby Ying Mei Nunnery.” Ran Yan solemnly said.
Ran Yunsheng saw such an appearance on her and couldn’t persist with his idea. Besides, he was also eager to meet this god-like doctor, thus, he conceded: “Alright, I have two houses in the middle of the city, and one of them is close to the west part. I’ll personally escort the godly doctor there.”
As if the one helping her out was someone else, Ran Yan followed the customary etiquette and courteously thanked him. However, Ran Yunsheng and her had such a close relationship, these formalities only made their relationship seem estranged. She then said: “I can only trouble Tenth Brother with this, so in the future days I’ll personally cook something and reward it to Tenth Brother for his painstaking efforts.”
Ran Yunsheng had lifted the carriage curtain and was using one hand to support Ran Yan inside. When he heard Ran Yan’s words, a bright and beautiful smile bloomed on his face, “Elder brother will look forward to it”
The corners of Ran Yan’s mouth raised slightly, but she had yet to realize that she was able to have such a natural smile in front of Ran Yunsheng.
After laying the curtain down, the carriage began to move slowly. Ran Yan seemed to suddenly remember something and pushed the curtain aside; she saw the tall and handsome figure of Ran Yunsheng under the sunset and raised her voice to say: “Tenth Brother, I owe twenty taels to Mr. Sang, I’ll also be troubling Tenth Brother to help me deliver it.
Ran Yunsheng answered with a loud and clear voice: “Alright!”
Ran Yan gently smiled towards him, then laid back on the couch, feeling at peace.
The journey seemed that would last forever. The rumbling of the carriage was like a lullaby, and Ran Yan was feeling extremely tired; thus, not even a second after she leaned against the couch, she fell into a deep sleep inside the shaky carriage.
The water of the Pingjiang river spread widely, inundating the imaginary world. Ran Yan was seeing the shade of cherry-red once again. The plain cloth wrapped around that face was now loosened, exposing an elegant and gentle look. Her long eyelashes were moistened with a few glittering drops, making the face appear just like a daisy that was moistened by the morning dew.
This girl shouldn’t be dead, but she was sleeping so peacefully in the water, not displaying any suffering or struggling. Her face so small that could fit in one’s palm, serene enough that could cause heartache.
Cries filled with grieve abruptly ripped apart the tranquility, and her field of view changed. Ran Yan was now sitting in front of a bed, and her hand was being held tightly. That lively and bright girl had her face filled with fear and suffering, “Ah Yan, it’s so painful, so painful.”
Ran Yan looked at the fresh blood oozing from her lower body and immediately began an emergency response, not to help saving the child, but to do her best in mitigating her suffering. Ran Yan knew perfectly well that this was a dream, nevertheless, she was worried about how to brush away the panic in those eyes.
