TTPC Ch. 4: Seeing ‘Figures’
The Green Bamboo Courtyard was much better than his previous remote courtyard. Even if he couldn’t see, he could still feel the genial breeze, the warm sunshine, and the soft bed.
“Please bring in something to eat, thank you.” Lin Yi was even in good enough of a mood to speak to the person who brought him in.
Probably confused by the ‘thank you’, the person who brought him in took a moment before heading out, and soon after, a meal was delivered.
Lin Yi had been hungry all day, and smelling the aroma of food, he wished he could stuff it all in his mouth, but being unable to see…
“What is this?”
“Food.”
“I’m asking you what kind of food it is. I’m blind, are you blind too?”
The person in front of him didn’t expect Lin Yi’s attitude to change so quickly. After taking a moment to restrain his dissatisfaction he said, “It’s fried meat with bamboo shoots, braised fish with soy sauce, and green vegetables.”
“Fish? If a fishbone gets stuck and I choke to death, please tell the Patriarch that it was not my intention to seek death.” Lin Yi said coldly.
A small moment of time elapsed before Lin Yi heard the sound of the bottom of the plate scraping against the tabletop. The fish was taken away and was soon replaced with a bowl of red braised pork.
Lin Yi then carefully and cautiously picked up his chopsticks and ate his first meal with difficulty.
The man who had been stifled by him twice over just now was clearly quite irritated, but he didn’t leave. He continued to watch him, as if afraid that Lin Yi would still want to run away.
Lin Yi paid no mind to him. He was testing the attitude of the man just now, and while it was confirmed that the man was irritated, Lin Yi found that even if he was irritated, he couldn’t really risk letting him eat the fish and still changed the dish to red braised pork. In other words, while watching over Lin Yi, he really dare not let there be any issues.
Hmph, compared with Lin Jintian, the Lin Family Patriarch really valued the safety of the goods.
Now able to stop worrying about his well-being for the time being, Lin Yi began to carefully recall the crux of Lin Jintain’s wording toward the Lin Family Patriarch which was, ‘to be…’ and why the Lin Family wanted to marry him off to Pei Xuanqing.
He was blind and unable to cultivate; just an ordinary person. Could it be that there was something about his body that was worth being used?
Lin Yi incessantly flipped through the memories left by the original owner, but there was no such information in his memory that could be found. It seemed the original owner himself was also not clear as to why.
What could it be…
Once Lin Yi very slowly finished his meal, someone arrived bringing medicinal ingredients that were said to supplement his health. A bowl of stewed medicinal soup was quickly delivered thereafter, this quick action displaying an attitude of attentiveness.
The person who delivered the medicinal soup didn’t say what kind of medicinal materials were used, only saying that it was a supplement.
However, after Lin Yi smelled the medicine, a page of writing appeared in his mind, presenting in detail what medicinal ingredients in front of him were used–
Spirit Rabbit Meat stewed with Yin1 Nourishing Grass. Spirit Rabbit Meat nourishes spiritual energy while Yin Nourishing Grass nourishes spiritual energy, blood, and benefits yin.
With both medicinal ingredients, not only did the Spirit Rabbit Meat include spiritual energy, but the Yin Nourishing Grass was also a spiritual herb. Although not advanced, it really was a true spiritual medicine.
Ordinary people wouldn’t be able to get their hands on these two ingredients. Only cultivators were qualified enough to eat them, even if they didn’t contain much spiritual energy.
This really was a true supplement; the servant didn’t deceive him.
When he was carried away from the Lin Family Patriarch before, he heard Lin Jintain asking the Lin Family Patriarch why he would use important spiritual medicines on him. Lin Yi also wanted to know why. According to the situation in the Lin Family, unless there was a backer behind them, ordinary people could only eat ordinary foods.
Lin Yi couldn’t figure out why, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t drink it. This supplemental soup was good for him so there was no reason to turn it away and refuse.
After drinking the supplemental soup, his entire body seemed to warm up, even easing the discomfort in his body a lot.
Then, Lin Yi was taken to get a bath, and because he couldn’t see, Lin Yi didn’t have any feelings of shame.
Soaked in the warm water, he suddenly felt revived, his exhausted body finally being brought relief.
Suddenly, he felt a warm current begin to flow from his abdomen and out toward the rest of his body where it gradually converged into his dantian. With the area of the dantian being too sensitive, Lin Yi subconsciously reached out a hand to press down on his abdomen, worried that the previous pain he’d felt before would reappear.
After waiting a moment, no pain was felt. However, because the current was still flowing in, he felt that there was a somewhat strange warm feeling there.
Not long afterward, an extremely fine thread of that warm current slowly rose from his dantian and was absorbed by the Pharmacopoeia within his mind!
And in that same moment, Lin Yi also found that his eyes began to feel faintly warm.
By coincidence, someone from outside entered the room at the same time. Lin Yi subconsciously turned his head to glance over when he heard the sound, and as a result, he could actually see a very faint figure!
This wasn’t because he now had vision, in fact, it was more like he could see a faint glowing figure as if looking through his eyelids. The light was very faint, but he could still make out the outline of a person.
Lin Yi was startled. Even if he didn’t really have sight, such a change was a nice surprise to him.
Footnotes
1, Yin, as many readers may already know is connected to the idea of “Yin Yang” which is a Chinese philosophical concept that describes opposite but interconnected forces. (As stated by Wiki). In some cultivation novels like this, there is relative importance to yin yang.
Yin, female/passive/negative principle in nature
Yang, male/active/positive principle in nature

Translator’s Note
There was an author’s note with this chapter, but since it didn’t tie into the novel (there was mention of updates as well as asking for support) I did not translate it. For author notes that DO pertain to the novel, I will translate them, but there aren’t really many from what I’ve seen thus far.
This was a short chapter, but the next one is longer! Thank you for your patience, and because I missed last week due to being at my partner’s house, this Saturday has two chapters!
