Don’t tell me…

Was it because Ki Hyun Joo’s ability was healing? It might have been a leap of thought, but in games and novels, paladins and priests served gods and possessed healing skills. Therefore, Ki Hyun Joo’s ability might be a power he, who has been corrupted, loathed yet longed for.

No way…

Then she was in danger because of me. I didn’t know either… After all, she should never have entered this gate.

Dietrich slowly approached us and held out his bloodstained hand—probably with bad intentions.

I pushed Ki Hyun Joo, who was unable to move due to fear, to where other people were standing, and I launched the dagger I was holding.

“Huk…!”

I let out a sound. I swung the dagger, but it was meant to intimidate rather than hurt him. Thus, he could either retreat or avoid it.  Or he could just block it like when he was dealing with the bullets. Unexpectedly, Dietrich didn’t do anything. He received it and his bloodstained palm was penetrated by the dagger.

[Hmm…]

When I became shocked and lost my grip on the dagger, the dagger quickly disappeared. Dietrich looked closely at my open palm and smiled at me.

[What a surprise! I didn’t expect to meet an apostle here.]

“…What?”

[Give it up, God’s agent. Your world will turn out the way he wants it to. Just like my world.]

He looked at me with pity. He called himself ‘our god of death’ and behaved in a way dissimilar to how he killed other people like suppressing bugs.

[You are just a chess pawn. The God who moves you will not come forward even if you are killed. Or even if your world is destroyed.]

“What… does that mean?”

I asked him what he meant, but Dietrich just looked at me with pitiful eyes.

[I don’t want to hurt you. So, stay back.]

“What bullshit are you… Ugh!”

“Yoon Jae-ya!”

Dietrich just waved his hand, and my body flew far away. Ki Hyun Joo, whose face turned pale, ran towards me as I rolled along with the objects I collided into, too panicked and unable to use a falling technique.

The others were frightened by the power and momentum he displayed. Most of the gifted people who could attack him were outside the base camp, and the only people left here were incompetent soldiers, researchers, and gifted people with little offensive skills.

The soldiers probably didn’t even think about fighting him now that their guns had been taken away.

When Dietrich blocked Ki Hyun Joo as she ran towards me, Ki Hyun Joo fell down in surprise. She fell onto her hips and just moved backwards on her hips as if there was no strength in her legs.

“Ah… Ughh…!”

“Hyun Joo-ya!”

Dietrich was very obsessed with Ki Hyun Joo. Even though there were other people closer to him, strangely enough, he only aimed at Ki Hyun Joo. In a rush, I picked up a stone near me. Somehow I had to avert his gaze.

“Hey, you crazy bastard!”

I threw the stone while cursing, but Dietrich just stared at me briefly and didn’t care. I was in trouble.

‘If only… I didn’t choose to come here…’

It wouldn’t have been dangerous for Ki Hyun Joo. She could have lived like in the original story by helping me with my work in a comfortable mansion or office. A life without being threatened by a psychopathic killer who didn’t even know where he came from.

‘It’s my fault.’

Everything was my fault. Just as I, the possessor, only knew what was written in the book, although Kwon Jae Hyuk was a regressor, he might not know everything. I blamed my arrogant choice.

I didn’t know where I got such courage, but I got up and ran. I might not be able to reach them because of the distance, but I couldn’t give up. Ki Hyun Joo would die if I gave up.

Dietrich reached out his hand to Ki Hyun Joo, who was sitting down. Could I stop him? I felt like my heart was going to burst.

“No!”

Just before Dietrich’s hand reached Ki Hyun Joo, something shot behind his back along with my shout. It must have hit him pretty hard because he staggered backward.

“Ki Yoon Jae!”

“Yoon Jae-ya!”

It was the second raid team. The people running in front were Jung Yi Joon and Jang Eui Yeol. Jung Yi Joon seemed to realise that he was the culprit of the commotion when he saw the fallen Ki Hyun Joo and Dietrich, a foreign man standing in front of her.

Immediately, Jung Yi Joon’s hands turned red, and the objects around him floated.

“Fuck off!”

The floating objects flew towards him. As objects of small to large sizes flew towards him, Dietrich found it cumbersome to get rid of or block them one by one. His calm expression began to crack.

In the end, he had no choice but to jump away from Ki Hyun Joo. The soldiers, who came to their senses when they saw him move away, and the gifted people from the second raid team, who arrived later, started to attack all at once.

“Hyun Joo-ya!”

“….Yoon—Yoon Jae-ya.”

“You okay? I’m sorry.”

I apologised to her. If it weren’t for me, there’d be no reason for her to be in danger… In addition, I was angry that all I could do to try and save her was just throw a measly stone.

‘I panicked, but… What’s the point of all the training I’ve been doing?’

I could make a bow and shoot it. I could have used Jung Yi Joon’s ability to attack or block him. There was so much I could have done, but I could barely help her just because I was panicked. Ki Hyun Joo, who didn’t know my inner thoughts, shook her head and comforted me instead.

“I’m sorry for allowing that crazy psychopath to threaten you.”

I couldn’t say anything about it. So I just kept my mouth shut and kept quiet.

The gifted people continued to attack him, hitting one after another. The soldiers—except for the sniper, who shot precisely from afar—were unable to fire due to the gifted people, but they kept their guns aimed nervously as if preparing for the moment when he would take someone hostage.

[Tsk.]

Dietrich, who clicked his tongue, raised his foot as if these gifted people attacking him were troublesome. He stomped once on the ground with a thump, and an intangible momentum spread around him. His momentum forced the people to retreat.

Before long, Dietrich adjusted his sword and made a big swing. I was wondering if someone was going to die again, and it was only when everyone’s complexion turned blue that I finally realised that he had cut something down.

“Argh!”

The watchtowers collapsed with a loud sound. As the watchtowers that were separated from each other collapsed with a single stroke of his lightly swung sword, everyone became listless. A monster with such overwhelming power that appeared from the sky. What should we call him?

“Di–disaster…” Someone muttered.

It was a faint murmur, but because it was so quiet, everyone could hear it; the word was firmly embedded in their minds.

Dietrich must have heard it too because he said with a smile.

[Yes, I am you people’s disaster.]

He spoke jokingly, but the power of his words was never light. Seeing him point his sword at us meant we couldn’t resist and gently craned our necks. Those who had lost the will to fight seemed to have lost any thoughts of attacking him.

“What the fuck?! So you’re all going to let him destroy everything?”

The first person who came to his senses was Jung Yi Joon. He fumed and was angry that Dietrich had frightened him. Once again, when objects floated up with his red hands, Dietrich rushed towards Jung Yi Joon.

“What…!”

Dietrich grabbed him by the neck and lifted him up. Jung Yi Joon’s red hands gradually regained their original colour and grabbed Dietrich’s hand that controlled his breath.

“Ugh… Kugh…!”

“Yi Joon-ah!”

Surprised, Jang Eui Yeol controlled the bull and hit Dietrich. Thanks to his heavy blows to Dietrich’s body, Jung Yi Joon was able to escape from his grasp.

While the bull pushed Dietrich back, Jang Eui Yeol supported Jung Yi Joon and brought him back. By the time they reached me, Jang Eui Yeol suddenly stumbled and collapsed.

“Kugh!”

“Eui Yeol-ah?”

I had no choice but to roll on the ground trying to catch Jang Eui Yeol and Jung Yi Joon who fell at the same time. Then I saw the bull had fallen in half, bleeding. It seemed that the tamed bull had died and the link was broken, returning as backlash onto Jang Eui Yeol.

I could feel the fear in Jung Yi Joon’s eyes as he fell down. Dietrich was indeed an unavoidable disaster.

‘I can’t die like this.’

I didn’t want to die. That’s why I had been struggling so much to stay alive.

I finally raised my wobbly legs and picked up a shield lying around me. The large, square shield that was used for suppressing the riots was good for blocking as it covered my entire body. I was scared to death, but there was hope for me.

If I hold out, Kwon Jae Hyuk will come.

Could Kwon Jae Hyuk really defeat this monster? I didn’t know very well, but I have a feeling he wouldn’t lose for some reason.  So all I could do was endure and buy time.
