‘He really did become corrupted.’

It would have been better if Dietrich had become a dimensional stray and settled down like Cookie. Cookie was not at all happy now that he had met his former ally as an enemy. It seemed to be the same for Dietrich as well.

[You… Why are you here!]

“…”

[Why you!]

Dietrich was furious. The capillaries in his eyes burst out, and the whites of his eyes turned red; blood flowed out with his tears.

Cookie was sad to see him cry, wondering how he could have gotten here. After all, Cookie could predict the reason he had fallen.

“Dienia would be sad.”

[Don’t you dare mention that name!]

Dietrich was even angrier when he heard that name come out of Cookie’s mouth. His hand, holding the hilt of the sword, trembled. He finally couldn’t bear it and swung his sword. The power eminating from the sword was so strong, it showed that Dietrich was not going easy on him. When Cookie dodged his attack, it was sent flying towards the back and destroyed the barracks.

Fortunately, there were no casualties since the barrack was empty and unoccupied; however, Cookie was surprised. He realised that if he were to avoid it, other people would get hurt.

“Stop it! Dietrich!”

[How…! How did you survive alone? You traitor!]

“I didn’t betray her!”

Cookie protested in a wronged voice. After all, he didn’t actually betray anyone. It was just a coincidence that he survived. At first, he was ready to die with his master, but in the end he couldn’t die with her and was lost in this dimension with his injured body. It was Eui Yeol who saved him.

Initially, Cookie also hoped that his master had gotten lost in the same dimension as him. However, when he saw that his master had not call on him after all these years, he realized that she was not here. The image of her collapsing was the last time he saw her.

[Surviving alone is also a betrayal. Gatizen. Ahahahaha!]

Dietrich laughed loudly with tears of blood. His swordsmanship had disappeared somewhere along the way as he attacked Cookie, randomly swinging his sword around.

Cookie was troubled. Although corrupted, Dietrich was a man he once knew. Cookie didn’t want to attack Dietrich because he also knew why he was angry.

However, if he left him alone, other people would get hurt. It could be Yoon Jae or Eui Yeol. Hyun Joo and Eun Seo, who were less close to him but also adored him, could also be hurt.

No, actually Cookie didn’t want anyone to get hurt. Everyone here was nice to him. The desire to save everyone and not attack Dietrich collided with one another. However, as he continued to be attacked by Dietrich, he grew closer to being in danger so Cookie couldn’t do either.

It was Cookie who had jumped in between Dietrich and me. I wouldn’t have recognised him if I hadn’t seen his larger figure in the hospital room before.

‘But… Gatizen?’

Apparently, Cookie and Dietrich knew each other. Come to think of it, Dietrich was a Holy Knight, and Cookie was a divine beast. Perhaps they were really close before.

‘What’s really going on here…’

It wasn’t something to be happy about since I was a transmigrator. I didn’t know any of the really important facts… I wondered if the system brought me, who was leading a good life, here for this reason.

‘…Wait a minute, what is this?’

When I thought of the system, my status window naturally appeared. However, there was now a strange sentence next to my name.

‘[The Master of the Divine Beast?] What is this?’

The only divine beast I knew of was Cookie. I was Cookie’s caretaker, not his master. If it was its master, Jang Eui Yeol who was beside me should have been its master.

Then, who was this divine beast? Had I made a contract with another divine beast besides Cookie without knowing? Jang Eui Yeol muttered beside me as I pondered.

“Cookie? Huh? The real Cookie eh?”

“What? He’s Cookie?”

“Yeah… but I don’t know why he looks like that…”

Ki Hyun Joo muttered after hearing Jang Eui Yeol’s words.

“But did you know he could talk?”

“Huh? Cookie could talk?”

I was surprised. I thought it was a voice that only I could hear as usual, but I had never thought it would be heard by other people as well.

‘No, come to think of it, Cookie had a conversation with Dietrich.’

I should have noticed it but I was being thoughtless. When I replied with a question, Ki Hyun Joo asked if I could hear Cookie’s voice. I made a rough excuse.

“I thought I was hallucinating because I was hearing something I wasn’t supposed to hear… Well.”

“Jeez…”

Ki Hyun Joo criticised me for being pragmatic in a strange place, so I couldn’t help but make an awkward face.

I had been nervous when something that looked like a monster suddenly appeared and obstructed the villain Dietrich, but when I found out it was Cookie I relaxed.

I didn’t know how that little Cookie had gotten so big, but I was sure that he was on our side.

“But… isn’t Cookie getting pushed back?”

Cookie spewed fire, shot beams, and defended himself with his paws as Dietrich swung his sword at him with tears of blood; however, he failed to properly attack him.

Cookie seemed to be pushed back as he hesitated to attack someone he once knew even if Dietrich had become his enemy. Meanwhile, Dietrich was using his sword with all his might to kill his opponent.

“Dietrich…”

[Ahahahaha! Bwahahaha!]

Cookie called out to him in a sad voice, but he didn’t even respond. He just laughed like a madman while crying blood.

Words floated above his head. It was the ‘information’ that I haven’t seen in a while.

[Dienia] [Holy Knight] [Divine beast] [The End of the World] [That person] [Death] [Betrayal] [Chess pawn]…

This information was inferred from what Dietrich had told me and the conversation between the two. I checked the words one by one and started pairing them.

‘[Dienia], [Divine beast]…’

The information was combined to see if it could be connected correctly. Dienia seemed to be Cookie’s former master. She probably tried to prevent the destruction of the world together with Cookie…

‘She’s probably dead.’

I attached the word [Death] to her. I didn’t know who she was, but she must have been very important to both of them. And the [Chess pawn]…

Of course, it must have been she whom Dietrich had projected upon me as an apostle. I connected the rest of the words and could roughly guess what happened.

[Dienia]. The master of the [Divine Beast].  [The Holy Knight] Dietrich’s precious person. [Death] after cooperating with Cookie to prevent [The End of the World]. Dietrich said to Cookie that he had [Betrayed] her and came back alive alone, and she was only being used as God’s [Chess pawn].

‘Um… I kinda know what their relationship was like, but…’

Cookie would be the first to get tired if he kept blocking it like that. Dietrich attacked him without hesitation, but Cookie just kept defending while guarding his surroundings, so he occasionally took a few hits. Just as I was wondering what to do, Jang Eui Yeol whispered beside me.

“Yoon Jae-ya. That person… is weird.”

“Yes?”

“I’m guessing he’s not human.”

“Huh?”

Eui Yeol snapped his fingers and asked me to use the ability he lent me. I wondered why he told me to use it, but I activated the slot where his ability was stored without complaint.

“…Oh?”

Only after activating the skill had I realised what he meant.

The minimum conditions for taming were any living beings except humans. So there was a link that could only be attached to animals, insects, or monsters; the problem was that this link also existed for Dietrich, who was in human form.

‘What is this…’

I knew he wasn’t an ordinary person, but I hadn’t expected that he could also be tamed. I was so dumbfounded that I was speechless. Jang Eui Yeol whispered to me.

“This can’t be done. I might lose Cookie at this rate. I need to help.”

“Wait, Eui Yeol-ah.”

Of course, if he tried to tame him, he might be able to stop him for a moment. When a link was attempted, the Tamer would invade the being’s mind, allowing him to stop him and temporarily create an opening.

When the target was weak or weakened, its mind would be immediately suppressed, and the taming would be immediately successful; however, the problem was if the opponent was strong, it would be difficult to penetrate its mind. Even if he did, it was impossible to say how effective it would be due to the short amount of time it took to do so.

Nevertheless, even that little amount of help seemed necessary for Cookie. Cookie seemed to be on the defensive side due to the repeated attacks.

However, no matter how many chances Eui Yeol could give Cookie to attack or counterattack, Cookie seemed to have no intention of doing so… I tried to stop Jang Eui Yeol, but he was faster.

The moment Jang Eui Yeol snapped his fingers, a thread from his body shot towards Dietrich to make a link. The shot thread–entangled in a loop–stuck to Dietrich’s body, but when he turned around, the thread scattered and disappeared without leaving a trace.

[You…]

Dietrich, who was attacking Cookie, glared at Jang Eui Yeol. His face was tinged with shock and anger. Fearing as if he had been exposed for the thing he most didn’t want to be exposed for, he seemed unable to forgive Jang Eui Yeol for revealing his secret. Hatred gradually filled Dietrich’s face, which turned white, red, and blue.

‘Shit. It’s been countered.’

As an ordinary man and a holy knight, the reason why he turned into a monster was Dienia’s death. It was unknown whether he was arbitrarily corrupted or unintentionally corrupted, but it was clear that he did not want the result of becoming non-human.

Dietrich’s anger—all his hatred and detestation which had been unleashed towards Cookie—was now concentrated on Jang Eui Yeol. Jang Eui Yeol’s face turned pale as such murderous aura suddenly rushed at him. I stepped forward in front of him to protect Jang Eui Yeol.

[You…]

“Kugh…!”

[You’ll never die comfortably.]

Dietrich launched his attack towards Jang Eui Yeol. Even though I was blocking him to some extent, I heard a gasping sound from behind, as if Dietrich was concentrating on him. Dietrich completely turned his back on Cookie and walked towards us. Cookie hurriedly called out his name from behind him, but Dietrich’s gaze never left Jang Eui Yeol.
