The Vampire's Bride
Chapter 19 - Not The Best Mistake
"Good morning, Young Master Orpheus."
Leo jolted from where was standing and turned around quickly. In a nervous voice, he tried to greet the man back, "G-G-G-Good morning, Brian!"
The moment he said his name, he felt as if the air was taken away from him and he instinctively ran away.
Mallory, who was just besides him, was suddenly left behind in an instant. "M-Master Orpheus?"
Mallory looked at the butler who, in return, just shook his head and sighed. Mallory understood that he did not know why Leo reacted that way. She bowed slightly and hurriedly tried to look for Leo.
The butler stayed still and stared at the disappearing figure of Mallory and suddenly smirked.
'It seems Young Master Orpheus remembers that he left me. I guess I could have some fun.'
Yesterday, when Brian went to the scene and calmed the people down, he immediately looked for the Young Master and his guest who were unsurprisingly not there. Brian sighed and quickly went back home.
He was not mad but since his Young Master was presenting the option for him to have fun, why not take it? A little bit of fun would be acceptable... right?
"Young Master, Miss, please take care. Your lunch is ready. Please do not hesitate to call me if needed," Brian said and sent the pair off with a smile that creeped Leo out.
"M-Master Orpheus, are you okay?" Mallory asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking that I made the not-the-best mistake in my life," Leo grumbled.
Hearing his reply, the driver couldn't help but chuckle. The butler surely knows how to keep his Young Master under control.
Mallory nodded and looked outside the window. It was only the third night and the second day that she was brought in Leo's house but a lot of things happened.
She drank blood and met Leo. She was given a little "break time" from her family. Leo kept saving her both in school and outside school. Leo knew about her ears. The principal found out about her being a vampire. She also met Aldo who was supposedly assumed to be dead. Then there's also another issue with Leo. Leo have been steadily raising the number...
The number of kisses he made...
Nope! Change topics!
Mallory shook her head as she felt her cheeks had gone red from embarrassment. Leo looked at her confusedly and asked, "What's wrong?"
"N-N-Nothing! Just thinking about the Night Class," Mallory lied.
"Heh... What about it? You thinking of joining?" Surprised that Leo bought it, she quickly followed the flow.
"Actually no. There's just something that's been bothering me," Mallory said truthfully.
"Oh? What is it?"
"Master Orpheus, do you remember the criteria the Principal said?" Mallory asked.
Leo thought about it for a moment before nodding. "More or less, I think."
"Master Orpheus, what's your current grades with the major subjects like Math, Science, and the others?" Mallory inquires.
Leo raised an eyebrow and asked, "What's that got to do with the Night Class?"
"I-If you don't want to then it's fine! Letter grade or range is also fine but if you don't want to answer the—"
"Math, 98. Science, 97. Physical Education, 95. Music, 95..."
Leo continued to tell all of his grades in each and every subject he have. Mallory finally regretted her decision to ask the almighty Leo. Obviously he was in the Night Class... she shouldn't be surprised to hear all of his grades about 90.
No. Its not that she was surprised. It's just that after maintaining her scores around the range of 85 until 94, which was rare, she felt her confidence hid in a very deep hole. She hoped that her confidence could have pulled her in the hole as well.
"Did you get the scores?" Leo asked. "If you didn't, I could tell you about it again."
"N-No, Master Orpheus. I got it." Mallory did not know whether to cry or to laugh.
I got the point that your scores are above 90. Please don't bury this lowly servant of others anymore!
Leo nodded and continued to ask, "So, why are you asking about my grades?"
"Well, the Principal said that one of the criteria to join Night Class would be the grades," Mallory said, trying to gauge Leo's reaction.
"What about it?" Leo asked indifferently.
Mallory was confused. Master Orpheus doesn't know about my grades?
"I'm only an average scorer, Master Orpheus."
More time passed as they went closer to their destination and Mallory felt pressured by the silence.
Maybe she shouldn't have asked about the criteria. Maybe she shouldn't have told him. Maybe it was better if she just kept it all to herself.
Well, it was always like that. It was better if she would just stay quiet... it was better tha– –
"Ahh?!"
Mallory quickly straightened her body and tried to focus at the disappearing figure.
That child... looks like...
"What's wrong?" Leo asked.
Mallory unconsciously looked at him and gave a weak smile, "Nothing. I just thought I saw something."
Mallory turned to look at the scenery and thought of the child.
That child looks like she's in pain.
...
"Young Master, Miss, we have arrived." The driver went down and opened the door of Leo. After going down, Leo reached out a hand for Mallory and guided her out of the car.
For some reason, his actions made Mallory feel a little out of place.
... just a little...
"Take care, Young Master, Miss." The driver waited until the two were gone from his sight before driving his way back home.
Leo stopped for a moment and glance at Mallory who was besides him.
He opened his mouth and spoke, his clear voice caught her attention immediately, "You told me you're an average scorer, right?"
"E-Eh? Ahh... Yes," Mallory stuttered.
They held eye contact for a moment before Leo started walking. "But are those even real?"
Leo jolted from where was standing and turned around quickly. In a nervous voice, he tried to greet the man back, "G-G-G-Good morning, Brian!"
