The Vampire's Bride

Chapter 24 - I... Killed Them

"N-not your child? T-Then... she's..." Jillion trailed off and looked at Mallory.

Seeing the confused look on his face, Mallory quickly shook her head. "N-Not mine, not mine!"

"Huh?" Jillion was even more confused. If it's not Leo and Mallory's... who owns the child? Wait! Don't tell me...

Jillion turned around and gasped. "THE BUTLER'S?!"

Brian: "..." Young Master Jillion, I have no wife, let alone a partner...

Leo couldn't help it anymore and started laughing out loud. "Idiot, Jill! We just picked her up last night. It's not like we suddenly had a child out of nowhere! Besides, she does not even look like any of us!"

"T-Then, she is...?"

All three looked at the girl, waiting for her to introduce herself. In a sweet, little voice, she introduced herself, "I'm Kai. Nice to meet you."

"I'm Mallory. This is Master Orpheus, and over there is Master Jillion. Nice to meet you, Kai," Mallory said.

Kai nodded as Jillion went back to his seat. He proceeded to ask a question, "Kai, where are you from?"

"From a city nearby. We just arrived here three days ago."

Leo opened his mouth ready to be next but Mallory intervened, "Little Kai, can you be honest with me? What happened? It's normal for kids like you to lose control like that but yesterday... even after drinking a huge amount of blood, you were not able to control yourself."

Kai bit her lip and stayed quiet for a while. Leo looked at Mallory who was interviewing the girl with an indescribable feeling.

Jillion, on the other hand, still had no clue what was going on. He tapped Leo on his shoulder and whispered, "Hey, my bro, what's going on? Care to explain?"

Leo whispered back, "Long story short, blood l.u.s.t. She lost control and Mallory let her drink her blood then we let her stay for the night."

"I somehow got a part of it already but that's not what I'm asking!"

"Then what?"

"Why is your girlfriend so serious right now? I mean she said it herself that it's normal for kids like Kai to lose control, right?" Jillion asked.

Leo shrugged his shoulders as he replied, "I don't know. Why not ask her yourself? Also, she's not my girlfriend."

Jillion could only retreat as he saw Leo's nonchalant attitude. Jillion took a deep breath before talking to Mallory, "U-Umm, Mallory?"

Mallory quickly turned her head. "Yes?"

"What do you mean by that? You said it yourself that it's normal to lose control so what do you mean by your question?"

Mallory paused for a moment as she gathered her thoughts. In the end, her reply only made him speechless —

"I'm afraid I also do not know. All I could say is that it feels weird."

Jillion's lips twitched. Oi, oi! What if it's just normal? You might hurt the kid's feelings, you know!

"Actually..." Everyone looked at her as Kai continued, "I also do not know what exactly happened. No... it's more like I don't remember how I lost control of myself. The moment that I was born, I've been taught by different vampires how to control myself. Even if I'm a 10-year-old kid, I can confidently say that I am able to control my blood l.u.s.t. That's what we all thought."

"Three days ago, my parents decided to move here because they felt like someone was following us. Originally, they would not do such a thing and would just confront the threat but being an only child, they were scared of what would happen to me. We were fine... until the night of our second day here."

"You noticed that you're still being followed?" Mallory asked.

The girl nodded and continued, "I did but my parents didn't. At that night, I heard a soft voice. It was hard to determine if it was a man or a woman but I was sure of one thing. Whoever it was, they were not there to be my friend. What happened after that seems hazy to me."

"What did you hear?" Leo asked.

"I don't remember what the person whispered exactly but I do remember the person telling me to 'come to their side'," Kai answered. She paused for a moment to remember what happened next. "The next morning, I think I woke up and that's when I felt strange. I thought some fresh air would help me calm since that's how it have been after a while, I went home."

Mallory immediately recalled the scene where she saw Kai at the park on the way to school.

Still with all the explanation Kai gave, Mallory still found it confusing. "Then whom did you drink that huge amount of blood from?"

Leo and Jillion were dumbfounded. She could see that?

Kai paused for a while. Her voice was soft but serious, "I... killed my parents."

It was not the answer that came in their minds. What Kai said left them speechless.

Actually, Kai was not a hundred percent sure that her parents were dead. All her memories were kind of blurry. All she knew was the fact that she did, in fact, drank their blood when she lost control. She was starting to feel scared. Scared that when she go back to their house, there would be no one to welcome her home. She had strong facade but it was hard to tell whether she had one to deceive the a.d.u.l.ts in the room, or to deceive herself.

"A-Are you sure?" Mallory asked.

Kai shook her head. "My memories are kind of hazy but I am sure that I drank a lot of blood from them."

"And your parents did nothing when you lost control?" Jillion asked rather ins.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.ely.

"Hey!" Leo hissed.

"Ah! S-Sorry. It just slipped!" Jillion quickly said as he realized what he just asked.

"Don't mind him, Kai!" Mallory tried comforting the girl but it seemed that it was not needed.

"No, it is fine. My parents loved me too much to the point that they do not want to hurt me. That's probably why they just let me drink their blood and just called for someone from my relatives to get me. 'Till the end, they thought of me and not their well-being. I do not know if they're just dumb but... I guess that's the extent of what parents could do for their children," Kai said as she ended with a smile.

"Indeed. Parents will save their own children first because they love their children very much," Mallory said softly.

Although it was said by how she usually speak, Leo still caught a glimpse of sadness from her tone. Leo just glanced at her as he remembered the three ladies who entered his house the night when he brought Mallory in.

"Well," Kai jumped down from Mallory's l.a.p to the floor, "I think I should be going now. My cousin will pick me up soon and I still need to fix the place I'm currently living at."

"Will you need help?" Mallory asked.

Kai shook her head, "I could handle fine. I just need to deal with a few papers then a pack my things. Ah, by the way, Sister Mallory."

"Mallory is fine," Mallory said awkwardly.

"Why?" Kai asked. She was older than her, why would she call Mallory by her name?

"Actually, if we will be talking about our position as vampires, you'd be superior, Miss Kai," Mallory teased.

The young girl blushed as it was the first time someone had called her 'Miss' despite being younger. She could not help but laugh as she realized what Mallory meant. "Understood. Thank you for the blood. Sorry for the trouble. Also, Kai is fine."

Mallory nodded as if she had expected what she said.

"Thank you Master Orpheus, Master Jillion. If there's anything that I could do in the future, please don't hesitate to call me. I can assure you that my family has a lot of secret techniques," Kai said.

Leo chuckled as he waved a hand. "I will hold you on your promise, little Kai."

After a few more words, Kai had left the house. Seeing her figure disappear, Mallory could not help but feel worried. It was probably because Kai was still a child despite having a m.a.t.u.r.e thinking but something just doesn't feel right yet she couldn't point what it was.

After Kai had left, Jillion decided to visit another day for more details about what exactly happened the night when they met Aldo.

Jillion: "Well, bro, I'll be leaving. I'll come back in a few days."

Leo: "Be sure to bring your umbrella. It will rain hard within the following week. I don't want our informant to catch a flu at a special mission."

Jillion: "Don't worry! There's a saying that idiots don't get sick!"

Leo: "..." Alright. I will say no more.

...

Five days later...

But what surprised them was that Jillion was not the only visitor that planned to visit them.

Another visitor came...

And that person came 'uninvited'.
