The Vampire's Bride

Chapter 38 - A Monster!

It was already night time. Not much could be seen on the streets. Only a few stores were open and one of them was a convenience store.

"Why, hello there little girl! What are you doing out here late at night?" A man asked as he approached the girl sitting at the bench. He was carrying a plastic bag filled instant foods like cup noodles. Probably his dinner for the night.

The girl was swinging her legs back and forth and smiled as she replied in a sweet voice, "I'm waiting!"

"Waiting for?" The man slightly bend his knees so that the girl wouldn't be scared of his height.

The girl looked up and her shoulders relaxed. She had visibly relaxed, "For someone to pick me up!"

Looking around, the man did not see anyone nearby. "Is your mother in the store?"

The girl replied sweetly, "No!"

"In a nearby house?"

"No!"

"Is your mother coming to pick you up?"

The man was confused, "Who are you waiting for? Your father? Do you have any siblings? Or perhaps your relatives?"

"Na-ah," the little girl shook her head, "Can you guess it?"

The man shook his head, "No. Can you tell me?"

Nodding, the girl slowly replied, "A prey!"

"A-A what?"

"A prey!"

The man was scared for a moment before laughing, thinking that the girl had a limited vocabulary or was just playing with him, "Come on, little girl. Let's stop playing. It's dangerous for you to be outside. Where do you live? I'll bring you back to your home."

The girl pouted, "I'm waiting for a prey!"

"Yes, yes. But did you know that it's dangerous at night? Didn't your parents tell you anything?" The man asked.

"That's right... so let's go back home, okay?" The man said.

The girl tilted her head and asked, "But... why are you talking to a stranger?"

"Because I'm helping you," The man replied.

"But it's dangerous to talk to a stranger," the girl's voice quickly lost her sweetness. Hoping down the bench, she fixed her dress and said, "After all, I'm a stranger too."

"Y-Yeah but..." the man was utterly confused. What's wrong with helping a child?

"Mwahahaha!"

A loud voice resonated in the skies. The man was spooked and quickly looked up. However, when he checked, there was nothing there. Looking at the girl, it seemed like she did not hear it. He concluded that it was all in his mind and calmed down. Then the girl started speaking.

"Hey, Mister... don't you get it?" The girl frowned, looking at him as if he was pitiful.

"Get what?"

"O-Oh really? T-Then that's good!" The man felt relieved. He was spooked by the girl's actions and words. Smiling he continued, "Where is this person? I also need to leave soon."

"He's right in front of me!"

"Eh? Right in front...?" The man looked behind him but saw no one. Pointing at himself, he asked, "Is it me?"

"Yes! It's you!"

But I don't know you...

"Why is that so?"

The girl continued to smile, "I told you earlier, Mister! I'm waiting for my prey to come! And you are my prey!"

A-A prey? What game is she playing? Is it something famous for kids her age?

"I see... well then, let's get you home."

I'll be the one to bring you home."

"Wha- -" The man was surprised before witnessing her eyes turning red. He froze for a moment before he could realize what was happening.

"A-A... A MONSTER!"

The girl paid no heed and quickly captured her prey. Slowly, she held his head with two hands and then —

SNAP!

W-What?

... "AHHH!"

The little girl broke his neck and the man screamed in pain. "M-My neck! Ahh! Y-You monster! Get away from me!"

Then he felt two cold fangs slipping through his throat. It was only then that he realized...

But before he could shout once more, the girl s.u.c.k.e.d his blood, killing him on the spot as she broke his arms and legs one after the other.

She did it quickly and mercilessly. It was as if she had been doing this for quite some time now.

As she stood up, she let the dead body fall on the pool of blood. Signing the blood with a familiar wolf's head, she sighed.

Soon her head started to ache a little. She felt a painful knife stabbing her on her heart.

Why... Why am I doing this again? When did it start?

It feels like I'm hungry but... I've been eating a lot lately....

It's exciting... killing people for fun and for food... but something is wrong with me...

Why... am I doing this?

"Hahaha!" A voice echoed through the sky. The girl felt the presence's feet touching the ground. She said, "You are late, Master."

The question repeated in her mind.

Satisfied? It feels like I don't even know the word 'satisfied'.

"No, Master."

"Good!" The man grinned, "Yes, that's correct!" Looking at the dead body, the man made a disgusted face, "That's what you get when you underestimate others — especially us!"

Looking at the little girl, he asked, "Shall we return, my little devil?"

"...Yes, Master." The girl went closer to the man and held his sleeves. The man nodded.

"You were fantastic earlier... my little Kai."

"I just did what you have told me to, Master Zorek. Nothing less, nothing more," The little girl responded as she patiently waited for him to be ready.

Zorek opened his mouth and said, "Good. Hold on tight."

"Yes."

Zorek started chanting a spell while at the same time, erasing the barrier he placed.

Soon, blue light enveloped the two and they were getting ready to leave.

Zorek tightened his fist. The little girl, on the other hand, had no emotions like a "whatever-happens happens" kind of attitude. Her eyes were dull and hold nothing except darkness. It was as if... she was a completely different person.

Thinking about how the police are running around to find out everything, Zorek smiled and shrugged his shoulders.

BANG! BANG!

Huh?

...

W-Wha...?!

"Master!"
