The Vampire's Bride

Chapter 53 - More Than Enough

Morning came rather quickly. Rubbing her eyes, Mallory tried to focus on the figure standing in front of the cabinet. They met eyes for a moment before he spoke, "You're awake already? How are you feeling?"

"Y-Yes... I'm fine... I think," Mallory looked at her hands and closed them. She suddenly recalled the conversation last night.

Little girl, I'm now asking you to marry my grandson...

Right after that came a moment of silence before everyone else reacted. Even Leo was surprised by the sudden approval. Everyone seemed to question Leo's grandfather but he did not raise his head until Mallory (somehow) forced him to.

When their eyes met, Mallory felt pressured from the expectations in his eyes. Should she say yes? But... it came out of nowhere and she wasn't even sure why that happened.

Fortunately for her, she fainted due to losing too much energy from the chains she had of her father. She did not know what happened after that and woke up in the middle of drinking some blood from Leo.

Looking at his right arm, Mallory saw no sign of her teeth. "Did it hurt?" She asked.

Leo shook his head. "Don't worry, I won't die from a half-blood that drinks that little. More like... you should tell me what you're feeling instead of waiting for you to faint! It's quite a dangerous thing to do, okay?"

Not to mention that your grandfather almost killed me!

Leo shivered at the glare he received from Grandfather Dan when he said that he was going to give her blood... he thought he was going to die!

"Is the blood enough?" Leo sat besides Mallory as he checked her complexion.

"Yes. Thank you very much."

"Hmm..." Leo seemed to be in deep thoughts. It took him a while before he asked the question in his mind, "You know... you seemed to not be as resistant when it comes to drinking blood than when I first brought you here. Already got used to it?"

"Ah," Mallory was also surprised and noticed how... she actually did not resist last night. It wasn't that she got over her trauma. It's just that between trying to survive to grow stronger and running from her fears, she'd choose to grow than to stay in her current position. Rubbing the back of her head, she replied, "I... I need to get used to it if I'm accepting the deal. After all, it's dangerous if you'll keep on kissing me, Master Orpheus."

"Deal?" Leo was confused.

"T-The deal where I need to join the Night Class," Mallory answered.

Leo offered her the deal the day after Aldo first visited Mallory in Leo's house. It was a deal with three conditions. Leo will protect Mallory as long as Mallory followed these conditions:

(1) Join the Night Class

(2) Stay by his side and be his fiancée.

(3) As partners, they must only take blood from each other.

To be honest, Mallory still could not understand what Leo meant by being his partner. Was it something only full-vampires experience?

"You... You remembered the deal?" Leo was a bit surprised.

"I promised that I will think about, right? And I gave it a lot of thought but—" Mallory suddenly felt a soft touch on her lips.

Leo stopped her from speaking with his finger as he spoke, "I already told you. I won't accept an answer filled with hesitation. You'll regret it."

Mallory shook her head as she removed the finger. "I won't. I would lie if I say I wasn't scared but... I can confidently say that I'm not hesitating right now, Master Orpheus. I... I'm nowhere ear strong. I'm still being chased. It was thanks to Master Orpheus that I was given this opportunity. I was also able to see Aldo and save him. I do not want to lose him again. I was afraid to bring harm to those around me that was why I was hesitant about this deal."

"And now?" Leo asked.

Mallory shook her head inn response, "I am still scared but I am sure of my decision. I need to grow stronger... I can't just ask help from everyone. I need to... look for answers and I cannot look for them if I stayed here. That is why I am accepting your offer, Master Orpheus."

Leo stared at her clear eyes. He really thought she was going to reject him and if she did, he would have to maneuver his way for her to stay by his side. The way she looked at him reminded him of the night they first met. Back then, they were in his room, looking at each other, remembering that she just drank blood. The first time they met, she was so afraid like a kitten that had forgotten warmth from a person. Now, even though she was still scared, she's trying to fight. It looked like, for Leo, he did not need to worry that much.

Smiling, he c.a.r.e.s.sed her cheek, "That's good. I'll protect you." Pulling her closer, Leo gently placed a kiss on her crown. "I'll protect you so you'd better keep your promise and stay by my side, Mallory."

"M-Master Orpheus?" Mallory felt embarrassed as she was stuck in his arms however, Leo tightened his hug and smiled happily as he requested, "At least call me Azazel."

Mallory did not reply immediately. She bit her lip as she thought of it. It was not that she did not want to, rather, after living under her family's hands, she was taught of the difference in statuses. "... why... are you so hang up with me calling you by your name?"

"You dummy," Leo sighed as he rested his chin on top of her head, "Of course I would want to be called by my name. Do you think everyone likes their position as a young master or something?"

"... Do you not?" Mallory was confused.

"You!" Leo gritted his teeth as he tried to explain, "Look at Jill, he hates his position that's why he is called Ian. Even Aldo... well maybe not. Anyway, there are a lot of us out their who hates their position but we cannot remove the fact that we were born with that status. That's why, to those close and dear to us, we want to be called by our name."

Leo gently loosened his grip and looked at her in the eyes, "Besides, if you're going to be my fiancée, then it would be a wonder if you're gonna call me 'Master Orpheus' that's why... at least call me Azazel."

Mallory just stared at him as the information processed in her mind. Leo was... truly different from other vampires that she met. Even more different than Aldo or her grandfather. "I understand... Azazel." Mallory quickly averted her gaze the moment she softly called him by his name. It was weird... calling someone by their name after being used to calling them formally was embarrassing and weird. How did she even manage to call Aldo by his name for years?

Leo just chuckled as he saw her ears turning red from embarrassment. Patting her head, he quickly got up from the bed, "Okay! That's done! Let's go and have some breakfast. The others are waiting for us."

"Ah, yes!" Mallory quickly followed him but just before she was about to head to the door, Leo pulled her and pushed her in the bathroom, "Idiot. Go and wash your face first then fix yourself. Our grandparents and my father are also waiting. Most probably, my grandfather will ask you again so fix yourself."

"Ah, y-yes!"

After a couple of minutes, Mallory exited the bathroom and saw that Leo was fixing some papers on the table. "Ma — Azazel?"

"Ah, sorry. Wait for a while... I need to give this back to my father," Leo said as he quickly compiled the scattered papers.

"That is...?" Mallory tilted her head to look at the paper. There, she saw the familiar words, "Eh? That's a..."

"Blind dates arranged by that stupid father of mine. Apparently, it was decided without my grandfather's knowledge so now I have a more solid reason to reject his offer. Besides..."

"Besi— Wah?"

Leo pulled Mallory closer to him, "My grandfather chose you. That's more than enough support for my father to stop all these blind dates."

For some reason, ever since they saved Aldo, Mallory noticed that Leo started becoming more... clingy — or rather, touchy. It was uncomfortable for her but something prevented her from pushing him away. She felt that if she pushed him or complained, the warmth she was felling would disappear.

"It's so sad that your ears and tail are gone. And I was able to see it after such a long time." Leo sighed as he touched her hair, trying to check if the ears were just hiding under her hair. "Shall we go?"

"Y-Yes..."

Leo chuckled once more before heading to the door. He patiently waited for her to exit the room before gently closing the door.
