The Vampire's Bride
Chapter 55 - I Am Serious Too
Mallory returned with a worried face.
"What's wrong?" Leo asked.
Mallory shook her head as she sat down. "Just received a confusing message."
"From Jianne?"
Mallory looked surprised. Her eyes seemed to ask, How did you know?
Leo knew what she was thinking and explained, "You told me you had a friend. I rarely see you use your phone so... you probably received it from your friend."
Aldo never heard of this friend. He cautiously asked, "Do I know her?"
Mallory shook her head. "I met her two years after your death. But she needed to follow her family so she went to another country after a year. We talk to each other every now and then. She's busy, after all."
Leo looked at Jillion. Even till now, Jillion had no news of who this Jianne was. All he knew was that it was probably a fake name.
"By the way, Leo, didn't you say that you're in the Night Class? How come you're in Mallory's classroom?" Aldo asked. The school Leo and Mallory were in was the school he was supposed to enter as well therefore he knew of the Night Class.
The Night Class is different from other classes mainly because they end at night, just as its name states. There are other special classes taken as well. As long as one can perform great in academics, they can take these special classes. Among the students of the Night Class, they also have rankings therefore taking and finishing the special classes can raise their ranks. After all, they are vampires.
"The principal knew of Mallory's situation. Since she's a vampire, I've been assigned to protect her in the meantime. But once she enters the Night Class, I'll naturally return to my normal schedule," Leo explained.
Aldo looked at Leo suspiciously. He raised a brow as he changed topics, "Really? But... are you really partners?"
Leo did not reply immediately. He glanced at Mallory and met eyes with hers. "That... I can't say we are, 100% percent, but... I think so."
"You... how can you proclaim that you two are partners if you're not sure? If word got out, both of you will be in danger!" Aldo wanted to grab Leo by his neck but held it in. "Mallory will be in danger."
"Don't worry. I'll protect her." Leo did not mind it if word got out. If they weren't destined partners, then he could say that they're engaged. That's more than enough. Deep in him, he had no intentions of letting other people have Mallory.
Jillion whistled. He have been by Leo's side for a long time therefore he recognized the possessiveness present in Leo's tone. "Boy, you've fallen too deep."
"Once you find yours, I'll tell you the same thing," Leo replied, glancing at Aldo.
Seeing that, Jillion choked on air. "Brother... spare me!"
Mallory could not comprehend what they were talking about. She opened her mouth to ask, "Is there a way to know if we're destined partners or not?"
Aldo nodded. "There is. One can know once they tasted it, they can't drink another person's blood or they'll be sick and the worse case scenario, they can die."
Mallory did not expect that. She unconsciously looked at Leo as she remembered his condition that they can only drink each other's blood. "Then their blood taste different?"
"That..." Aldo suddenly felt embarrassed. Coughing, he avoided Mallory's gaze as he continued, "Not just different... according to studies... when vampires drink from their destined partners the once drinking will get addicted to it while the one providing will..."
"Will?"
"... will feel p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e."
"..."
Silence spread through the room as it dawned on her what they meant. Mallory's flushed face caught Leo's attention. Leaning in, Leo whispered, "What are you thinking, Darling? You still owe me something."
Mallory frantically pushed Leo away as her ear felt hot. "N-Nothing!"
Aldo could not bear to see the couple flirting in front of them. Coughing, he opened Mallory's book. "Ahem! Eh... can we now return to Mallory's studies?"
"Of course, please!" Mallory just wanted to avoid talking about destined partners for the meantime. It won't end well for her.
...
Time passed by quickly. It was already nighttime and Jillion had to leave. Standing up, Jillion said, "It's already quite late. I still have something to do."
Leo just nodded, not taking his eyes off of Mallory's notebook. "Contact me if anything happens. Also, update me about the investigation."
"Will do. I'll come visit next time." Jillion tapped Aldo, "Hey, let's go!"
Placing down the pen, Aldo stood up and also bid goodbye. "Mallory, I've written some notes here. Be sure to study. I'll also visit after I settle down."
"Don't go disappearing again," Mallory worriedly reminded. "If you need help, don't hesitate to ask."
Aldo laughed as he flicked her forehead, "Idiot! A little girl like you just needs to watch a show. They're nothing to me."
Hearing that, Mallory relaxed. Aldo would not say that if it would take a toll on him.
"Mallory," Leo called.
"Yes?"
Leo whispered, "Go and see them off. After that, go to my room. We have a few things to discuss." Distancing himself, he had a smirk on his face. Mallory slightly blushed as she subconsciously nodded.
"I fixed my things already. Ready to go, Aldo?" Jillion asked as he carried his bag.
"Yep."
Mallory went to see them off with Brian. At the doors, Aldo suddenly leaned in, "Mallory, be careful."
"Careful of what?"
"... of everything."
Mallory saw the serious look Aldo had. A seed of uneasiness was planted in her heart, however, she did not dare to show it on her face. Laughing, she jokingly slapped Aldo's shoulder. "You're still as protective as you used to. I'm already grown up."
"Mallory, I'm serious."
Hearing that, Mallory had no choice but to be firm. "I'm not joking, Aldo." In the next second, she had a smile on her face as she pushed Aldo, "I have and will always be cautious of everything, Aldo. Hurry and take some rest. Master Jillion still need to conduct a research to your body. You might be the first zombie-vampire to live consciously in this century."
"I already said that I'm not a zombie like those in the movies." Aldo knew she was avoiding it. He sighed and left with Jillion.
Once they reached a shaded area waiting for a taxi, Jillion could not help but wonder, "Do you still love her?"
"Huh?" Aldo was taken aback by the sudden question.
"I mean, you care for her... you actually sound loving... and she was the only one you could remember when you were controlled by that guy."
Aldo laughed as he hooked his arm on Jillion's shoulder, "What's this? Is my Darling jealous? Don't worry, I don't love her. I only have my eyes set on you. My heart fully belongs to you."
"Hey!" Jillion was irked as he tried to push Aldo's arm, "I'm serious here, Aldo!"
"I'm also serious, Jill."
Jillion felt like his heart skipped a beat as he looked at Aldo. "S-S-Serious?"
Aldo nodded as he removed his arm. He looked distant as he continued in a solemn voice, "I don't love her as a woman. I see her as a younger sister. She's someone I... need to take care of."
"Ah, I see!"
You were talking about that... that nearly gave me a fright.
Jillion felt embarrassed as his cheeks became hot. Seeing this, Aldo asked, "Are you alright? You're red."
Aldo who was genuinely worried, turned into someone evilly teasing him in Jillion's ears. Irritatedly, Jillion slapped Aldo's hand and composed himself. "I-It's nothing. Look, the taxi is here."
"Okay..."
...
Meanwhile, back in Leo's house, Mallory became nervously frozen.
When she entered Leo's room as per his request, she was suddenly pulled into a tight embrace. She had been in that position, neither of them moving, for at least 10 minutes already.
Due to anxiety, her legs could not keep up with the weight on her back. She softly spoke, "Umm... A-Azazel? C-Can we take a sit? I can't continue standing like this. And... umm... can you let go for a second? My arms hurt..."
Surprisingly, Leo obediently followed and pulled her towards his bed. Suddenly, he trapped Mallory underneath him.
"U-Umm... A-Azazel?" Mallory could not comprehend what was happening. He was fine before Aldo and Jillion left... what happened during the time she saw them off?
"Mallory," Leo's voice came out deeper than usual. His eyes had a hint of daze, flashing red a couple of times. "You remember condition 3, right?"
As partners, they could only drink each other's blood.
Realization dawned on her. Leo was hungry. However, Mallory was still unprepared. Even though he drank from her more than once, Mallory's heart wasn't ready.
But what could she do against a vampire's instinct?
Even though she struggled, she was not strong enough to push Leo away. Surrendering, she softly spoke, "Please be careful."
Hearing her consent, Leo hummed as he leaned forward. Pulling her collar, he could see her pale skin. He almost completely lost to his instincts. Slowly, he let his fangs bury as the blood started entering his mouth.
He heard Mallory whimpering softly but he did not stop. He never had the chance to replenish his energy. They had been busy and he was almost out of strength. He had longed for Mallory's blood.
He felt like laughing. Before he met Mallory, he never really liked drinking blood. Who would have thought that he would be addicted to it once he found his partner?
While he was enjoying his time, Mallory was on the verge of crying. She felt hot as the pain on her shoulder intensifies. God knows how long it took before Leo retracted his fangs and sat up, his arms wrapped around Mallory's waist.
Mallory slowly breathe as she sat on Leo's l.a.p. She wheezed out a few words, "A-Are you alright now, Aza— Eek?!"
Instead of answering, Leo suddenly bit on Mallory's neck. He wasn't done. In fact, the more he drank, the less he felt satisfied.
Mallory wanted to slap him on his head.
Please leave some blood for me!!!
