Chapter 271 - "I want to see my son." (1)

XingXing didn’t really know that the normal process was for a couple to get married before the birth of their children. He had only heard about other kids at school bragging about their parents’ wedding, which was why he asked.

Cheng Huan thought about it some and said, “Mommy is not sure about that either.”

“Why not?”

“Because this is not something that Mommy can decide on her own.” Cheng Huan put down the story book in her hand and patted XingXing a couple of times through the blanket. “Alright. Time to sleep. You have school tomorrow.”

XingXing gave her an “oh” and closed his eyes docilely. “Goodnight, Mom.”

Cheng Huan gave him a kiss on his cheek, “Goodnight to you too, darling.”

As XingXing had started taking his violin lessons, Cheng Huan, too, became more and more familiar with Shen Xi.

Shen Xi was an odd one among everyone that she had been around. She looked to be unambitious and all she did was sit around to pass time but she never missed out on any of her classes. She hated her mother who had abandoned her but she never did anything about it. She looked like a player who liked to hook up with men but, once one got to know her better, it wasn’t difficult to tell that she actually hated men.

Cheng Huan felt that it her past experiences had a lot to do with her having such a conflicting personality. As her experiences was fairly similar to that of Shen Xi’s, Cheng Huan cared a lot about her and would offer her career suggestions once so often.

Shen Xi found her naggy and would disappear after a little while. She would usually reappear again once she was over it.

The weather became hotter and the thick coat and down jackets were put away and replaced by light jackets. Cheng Huan had been spending a lot of time at the restaurant as of late and coming up with new dishes with the chef in preparation for the hot days to come. Shen Xi, having a lot of free time when school was out, followed Cheng Huan there as well.

There really weren’t much to do at the restaurant. Cheng Huan was busy with the chef and sometimes would ignore her for hours. Shen Xi would wander around on her own and would touch this and that as she looked. Being the boss’s friend, nobody wanted to say anything to her but would wash what she had touched afterward. Shen Xi got the hint after a few times. She wasn’t too happy about it so she gave Cheng Huan a heads up and went to play on her cellphone outside.

Cheng Huan was finally able to have lunch at 2 PM. There weren’t very many people left inside the restaurant by then and Shen Xi was playing video game with her feet propped up sitting at the largest table.

Cheng Huan brought food over and sat down across from her. “Did you have lunch?”

Shen Xi looked up at her. “Yes, I did.”

“Good.”

Cheng Huan’s lunch was very simple. It was just a bowl of noodles, with a few pieces of lettuce on top of it. It looked very plain. She slurped on the noodles as she listened to the sound effects from Shen Xi’s game. She would start another game immediately after one had ended.

After finishing her lunch, Cheng Huan wiped her mouth and looked across from her. “You should head out if you are bored.”

“I am not bored.”

“Okay. I keep playing. I am taking off. I have something to be,” said Cheng Huan as she stood up.

“Wait.”

Cheng Huan turned around, “What is it?”

“Let me finish this game first.”

Cheng Huan was speechless but there was no urgency in what she needed to get done so she sat back down and waited for Shen Xi to finish her game.

When Shen Xi finished her game, she put down her cellphone and finally looked up at Cheng Huan. She was silent for a little while before she said, “What do you think if I go and become an actress?”

“An actress?”

“Yeah, there are lots of talent shows out there and many became famed like that. I want to give that a try as well.”

Cheng Huan studied her carefully.

Shen Xi had a nice body. Her features were delicate and the collagen on her face gave her a naïve feel mixed with a hint of decadent. She was a memorable pretty girl.

But…

“If you are to go onto a talent show, what kind of talent do you have?”

“I can sing, and dance. Pole dancing.” Shen Xi winked at Cheng Huan. “Have you forgotten what I used to do for a living?”

Cheng Huan, “… …”
