Chapter 2

Ding-dong-.

“It’s here.”

I quickly opened the front door.

“Hello.”

Two delivery men were standing with a large box between them.

From noble mtl dot com

“It looks like you received the code.”

“Haha, yes.”

“Congratulations. You are the first person in my district to receive the Doomsday code in three months. Where would you like us to place it?”

I had already cleared the space next to the bed.

The delivery men opened the box and took out the capsule, placing it down.

“We’ll be off now.”

The delivery men left.

“Impressive.”

There’s no user manual, but it doesn’t matter.

Doomsday is simple; just connect the power to the capsule, and that’s it.

After connecting the power, I place my right hand on the hand-shaped mark on top of the capsule.

*Ding- Zing-*

The capsule scans my fingerprints and palm lines, then opens.

“Fascinating.”

How could they create something like this without even knowing me? How did they get my biometric information?

Now that my fingerprints and palm lines are registered, only I can use this capsule.

“They still haven’t figured it out, huh?”

The capsule that allows you to enjoy Doomsday is said to be over-technology that modern science cannot replicate.

Although virtual reality and augmented reality have become widespread among civilians, they say nothing can perfectly recreate the world like Doomsday.

It’s literally technology that fell from the sky.

But no one questions it.

Because they know Doomsday is related to the Tower of Infinity.

After receiving the message, I spent late nights gathering information in communities where Doomsday users are active. It’s better to start with some basic knowledge than to begin the game without any.

“I’ve eaten, so let’s get started.”

As I lie down inside the capsule, it closes automatically.

“It’s not dark.”

Thanks to the interior lighting, the inside of the capsule wasn’t dark.

– User authentication is starting.

A red light scans my face.

– User ‘Noon’ confirmed. You can enter the world of Doomsday with the command ‘Enter Doomsday.’

“Enter Doomsday.”

*

“What… is this?”

I stand in the middle of a plaza where countless people are passing by.

“Why did it skip character creation?”

When you first connect to Doomsday, you create a character.

You can set your appearance and obtain bonus stats in addition to the basic stats. The bonus stats are distributed randomly, and depending on how they are distributed, your job in Doomsday is determined.

If distributed to strength, you become a melee class like a swordsman or warrior. If distributed to agility, you become an assassin or archer. If distributed to intelligence, you become a mage.

Users with intelligence distributed can change their intelligence stat to divine power stat at the temple to become a priest.

But…

“Why was it skipped?”

The process that should naturally occur when logging into Doomsday was omitted.

“Status window.”

With an uneasy heart, I call up the status window and close my eyes.

Surely, I haven’t been left without bonus stats, right?

No way.

No matter how unlucky I am, it can’t be that bad in the game too.

I open my eyes slightly, filled with all sorts of thoughts.

A translucent status window appears in front of me.

Name: Noon

Level: 1

Job: —

Strength: 10 Stamina: 10 Agility: 10 Intelligence: 20

Skills: —

Achievements: Unlocked when certain conditions are met.

“Huh-. My ID is Noon?”

Since I skipped character creation, I couldn’t even choose my ID.

But the status window is a bit peculiar.

“Intelligence is 20?”

The basic stat is indeed 10.

But the bonus stat is not 10.

“Not 5, but 10? And all in intelligence? Haha.”

I laugh.

“If it’s like this, I can forgive skipping the character selection screen.”

Compared to others, I have twice the bonus stats. And it’s all concentrated in intelligence, not spread across various stats.

Isn’t it just 5 stats? If I level up, I can quickly offset it by gaining stats, right?

“Doomsday is not such an easy game.”

The character development method in Doomsday is different from other games right from the start.

Initial stats.

Everything in Doomsday.

How the initial stats are generated changes everything for the player.

As far as known, the initial stats are given as ‘5’.

With five initial stats, the value of the character changes dramatically.

For example, if the initial stats are concentrated in one stat, it is called ‘the greatest potential’ in Doomsday.

It means starting with 15 in strength.

In Doomsday, the number of bonus stats given when leveling up varies depending on the distribution of initial stats.

If five initial stats are concentrated in one stat, the bonus stats generated when leveling up range from 1 to 4 randomly.

It means that if you’re lucky, you can get four bonus stats when leveling up.

For example, if strength increases by 2, agility by 2, and stamina by 1, this is commonly referred to as a jack-of-all-trades character, and such characters have a fixed stat increase of 1 when leveling up.

In Doomsday, the potential is determined when the character is first created. The user’s effort or other external factors cannot interfere at all.

It is determined solely by ‘luck’.

“If intelligence is 20, how many bonus stats are generated when leveling up?”

At least one to six are generated randomly.

If you’re lucky and get six bonus stats, it means you get the stats that jack-of-all-trades characters would have to level up six times to obtain.

“Is this even possible?”

I’ve never been this lucky in my life.

Winning Doomsday and getting initial stats I’ve never heard of before seem to be related to the strange person I met on the street.

– Hurry up and make a wish.

I remember the person who forced me to make a wish as if annoyed.

One regret is…

“If I had awakened in reality and received such initial stats, I could have become the strongest awakened being in humanity.”

In reality, as in Doomsday, initial stats determine everything for awakened beings.

If you’re lucky and initial stats are concentrated in strength or intelligence, you become an awakened being with the greatest potential.

World-famous awakened beings fall into such cases.

The peculiarity of the status window is not just that intelligence is 20.

“Achievement?”

– It unlocks when certain conditions are met.

I had never seen anyone mention an achievement section in the status window while wandering around the Doomsday community.

Standing in the middle of the square, staring blankly at the status window, feeling empty, and then laughing to myself, people around me give me strange looks.

“Haha. The weather is nice, isn’t it?”

I laugh awkwardly and start walking.

“By the way, where am I?”

The starting point is also something you have to decide when creating a character. I ask someone who looks like a user among the passersby where this place is.

“Where is this? It’s the capital of the Magic Kingdom, Meruna.”

“Meruna?”

The name of the city sounds similar to the name of an ice cream.

“Meruna.”

I know what Meruna is.

The capital of the Magic Kingdom, Kraksha, is Meruna.

If you are a user who takes the wizard as a profession, you must visit the Magic Kingdom, Kraksha. This is because you need to learn higher skills or perform quests from the Magic Tower.

The first thing to do?

“I need to change my profession, right?”

The first thing users do when they log into Doomsday is to get a job. They find a job that matches the randomly distributed initial stats.

In my case, the job was already decided.

With an intelligence stat of 20 and the starting point being Meruna.

Doesn’t it seem like it’s saying, ‘You have to become a wizard’?

There’s no need to go all the way to the Magic Tower to become a wizard.

This is because there are job-related offices near the central square, the starting point, for the convenience of users.

On the signboard of a building, the four elements symbolizing magic – fire, earth, water, and wind – are drawn.

There are a lot of people inside the building.

‘It seems there are many people choosing to be wizards in this round.’

Most of the people are new users starting in the same round as me.

I take a number ticket and sit on an empty chair, listening to the conversations people are having.

Most of the conversations are about initial stats and magic.

I listened for a long time, hoping for useful information, but it was all information that could be obtained from the community.

“Recruiting new guild members at Luna, the guild exclusive to wizards! We provide initial equipment support and help with hunting. We also assist with important quests.”

“Recruiting new guild members at Red Dragon Guild!”

The recruiters speak loudly enough for everyone to hear, though they are not many.

It is said that joining a guild is beneficial in Doomsday, as it is not easy to grow in the early stages.

‘I’ll join a guild after changing my job and learning the 1st circle magic. Which one should I choose? Chiu Guild? Baekdu Guild?’

If they find out that my intelligence stat is 20, famous guilds will compete to recruit me.

Chiu Guild and Baekdu Guild, representing Korea in Doomsday, are not just guilds in the game.

These two guilds also represent Korea in reality.

Especially Chiu Guild, which is one of the top guilds in the world, and its master is an awakened one from the early days of the Great Cataclysm.

– Jeonshin Baek Dong-wook.

He was the top name when discussing awakened ones.

The Chiu Guild in the game is directly managed by the real Chiu Guild. Sometimes, people awaken while enjoying Doomsday, and they aim to recruit them first.

When a Doomsday user awakens, they grow very quickly in the early stages because they are well-versed in the Tower of Infinity and the awakened ones through the game.

I was helping three NPC users with their job changes, but there were so many new users that the line hardly moved.

‘Can you get sleepy in the game?’

I couldn’t sleep for a few hours, excitedly browsing the Doomsday community after receiving a text message.

I force myself to stay awake as my eyes start to close.

“Number 722!”

Finally, my number is called.

“Here I am.”

I walk up to the NPC who called my number, putting on the kindest smile I can muster.

“Please take care of me.”

The NPC looks at me blankly.

“Why are you here?”

“What? Of course, I’m here to change my job to a wizard.”

“What are you talking about? If you want to become a wizard, you have to go to the Magic Tower. Why did you come here?”

The NPC speaks as if it’s absurd.

But the one who is truly baffled is me.

“Why would I go to the Magic Tower?”
