The World of Masks
New discovery
The portal is usually viewed in pictures or videos, and it's not that new since the monsters appeared earlier today. But that didn't make it curious. I had never seen it this close before.
"Then call me if there's anything else."
Captain Spitch has left with that message. Greyett's mind is distracted by the portal, and she doesn't want to see him out. Greyett squats and observes a small, rotating blue vortex, flattened to the ground.
"Are you the new professor, Grey?"
You hear an old, gray voice behind you, but the passion remains intact. Greyett turns his head to look at the man who spoke. Her eyes are wide open.
"Professor Fleet?"
Her opponent is someone she knows very well. A scientist and professor of physics at Stanford University, he was well known to have had to remove the tag of physics if he did not know this person. Many other Nobel laureates for physics. He was by far one of the best physicists in the world.
Greyett gets up in a hurry and extends his hand. The opponent is someone he deserves enough respect from.
"I was used to listening to respect. I'm Gil Grey."
"It's James Fleet. I'm the leader of this research team now."
Fleet grabs Grey's hand tightly and waves.
"I think I just got here, but you want to know something like what we've been working on so far? In order to cooperate, you'll have to make a face with other people."
Fleet begins to walk with his back turned.
"Follow me."
I seemed to be able to guide myself. Grey hurriedly followed Professor Fleet.
Grey was introduced to several people by Professor Fleet. There were many physicists like Grey, but there were few scientists in other fields. Some welcomed him. However, others went back to study after being introduced only dry. Obviously, it was rude, but it didn't mean that they felt bad for her or had a bad temper. It just stops the scientist from caring about other things when his blood is focused on research. If the only thing that doesn't have a clue is a research project like a portal, it's worse. Greyett was no different from them, so she wasn't hurt or hurt. I just wanted to do it.
Fleet takes her to a large tent. As I stepped inside, there were a myriad of pieces of paper that looked like various equipment and research materials.
"This is the lab. There's no really good equipment, no high-tech equipment, but it's a pretty good place out here. You can use as much space as you want."
Professor Fleet walks to one side of the tent, leaving Grayett looking inside the tent.
"Would you like a cup of coffee?"
"Oh, please."
Fleet took out two cups and boiled the water. Soon, there was a fragrant aroma of coffee inside the tent.
"It's cheap mixed coffee, but any coffee you drink in an outdoor lab is delicious."
Fleet gives Grey a cup of coffee and winces.
"Now it's your turn to tell me what you expected the most."
With a cup of coffee in one hand, Fleet walks to a large table in the middle. While sipping a cup of coffee, Greyott also walked along Fleet. Fleet pulls out a batch of reports that are piled up on a table.
"They seem important to me. That should give us an idea of where our research has gone."
Greyett's curious eyes peer through the reports.
"Did you find anything in particular?"
"Not much. Honestly, he appeared to me like a pig, so I don't have any basic research. Besides, we didn't bring a lot of equipment to Burya. Maybe it's time for the devices to arrive to do some real research."
Fleet was a horse after they drank coffee.
"The only thing we know is that there's some kind of special propagation going on in the portal."
"Radio?"
"That's right. Didn't you see that? The sirens were already ringing before the portal was fully operational, so we evacuated and the soldiers were preparing for battle."
Grey recalls. It also seemed like that. Grayett looks at the portal, dumbfounded by a sudden siren, and the portal is just beginning to build up and spit out monsters.
"Usually they just scatter small waves, but before the monsters come out, the radio bandits rise. You can use these to predict when monsters will appear."
Greyett's eyes widen in surprise.
"Fantastic. When did you find it?"
"Not long. But it's definitely a success. Not only can it predict when monsters will appear, but it will be useful enough to find other unknown portals."
We don't have to tactically scavenge because of rough terrain like now. We'll find the special radio waves and we'll be on our way.
"The same thing has been discovered in other portals. You don't have to be so full of yourself to be attacked like you are now."
Fleet reminds me of the battle with the monsters earlier.
"Do battles like this happen often today?"
Fleet frowns. Grey knew exactly what that look was. That's what he looked like when important research was interrupted.
"At least once a day. It happens four times at a time. That's driving me crazy. There's an army around, so safety is guaranteed somewhat, but the research has been lost many times."
"That's a problem."
As the same scientist, it was understandable enough.
Someone walks into the tent while you two are talking like that. Grey knew him, too.
"Welcome, Niton."
Fleet welcomes the old man in. But soon I frowned. It's because the wooden crate that Niton is holding smells nasty.
"Is this a dead monster?"
"Of course. That's why I'm here."
He puts the box on the table. Inside, it was covered in bloody flesh and bone fragments. Grey and Fleet take a step back unconsciously. They poured the rest of the coffee on the floor without anyone having to first. The taste buds are gone.
"Why would I come here and do that?"
Fleet's grumbling is unfortunately not in his ears. Kniton wears thick gloves and turns the monster's corpse upside down. The two of them stepped away from the table and left the lab.
"Is that where you're doing your research?"
"No, there's a monster lab a few miles away. But wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. It's a real problem."
Fleet shakes his head.
"He's come all the way here just to dump the lab and just overflow with specimens. He won't listen to me. You better get used to it, too."
After leaving the lab, Flit begins to guide her around the inside of the hearth. I also gave him various precautions.
Greyett has been assigned a tent for the army. Life was inconvenient. There is no shower or food that is satisfactory. I had to miss the softness of the mattress while enduring a hard floor with just one cloth, and the battle with the blowing monsters gnawed my mind hard. Especially on a really dangerous day. Monsters that looked incredibly sturdy survived the first shot. Grayett looks like his hair is stuck in the shape of a monster running ahead of his ragged gloves through the rain of cannonballs and machine guns. Fortunately, I was struck down by a continuous focused shooting, but I had to harvest my surprised heart for a long time. After the incident, Professor Nieton never asked for a reduction in firepower again.
It was Grayett who was working hard with other scientists, but the results were not clear. The current technology could not be analyzed. Even Fleet sighed for quite a long time.
Greyett comes home for a moment. The study was to prepare more intensely because it appeared to be longer than expected.
I hugged two welcoming children and kissed my wife deeply. Grey is a young professor, but that's the story I've seen in professors. He was also the middle-aged man who was the head of a certain family.
It's been a long time since I had showered with warm water and tasted my wife's hearty cooking, then I slept in a soft bed. The fatigue of the day that I was studying with the monsters was exhausting. I felt the gratitude of the three families. And in proportion to him, there were increasing worries about the future difficulties.
Around that time, Grey was able to receive a courier.
