The World of Masks
Part 1
Jack stares at the sun in the sky, feeling the sweat flowing relentlessly on his forehead. The weather in the game is rushing towards the peak of summer, and whichever way you turn, the feverish heat does not go away. Those who passed around were also spewing insults with their elongated hands. Even a thin mule-like animal with a slender cart, and a sturdy horse that often rides a fancy wagon, are stumbling around stumbling.
'Nimmy, I wish I could take off my mask.'
Jack was also one of those people who grumbled and scorned the hot sun. No, I couldn't do more than anyone else. The white mask prevented even the flowing sweat from being wiped, and in case you didn't know it, the robe turned over to cover his outfit was emitting heat that would make Jack's body look like he mistaken it for a food ingredient.
I wanted to run around the streets naked like Archimedes.
Let's call it Eureka. '
Thinking about the time when it wasn't hot, Jack pushed his feet. No more ripening under the sun.
Jack arrives in front of a shabby building, pushing his feet hard. The building had a rusting sign on it. A sign with a picture of a spear and two swords crossed in front of the shield squeaks and quivers slowly.
'What a waste of money.'
I wasn't expecting a pleasant air conditioning wind and a smiling sheep through an automatic door made of real glass, but this is too much.
Are you sure you want to do this? '
Jack opens the door, expressing a suspicious look in his eyes.
Bait.
Ungreased hinges, naturally, scream in horror. Smells like cigarettes sticking out of your nose. Jack was also quite a smoker, but his impression of smoking filled the building frowned on itself. Jack snorts into the building. A few people were seen in quite a large space. A person who sticks a chair and snores, who looks at the pieces of paper that are visible on the board, and who trims a big sword. They were each exhibiting different behaviors, but they had a few things in common. Scars carved all over the body and · · · · · · ·.
'That's disgusting.'
They were the ones who wanted to shout, "Is it a prison?" carelessly.
The crowd glares at Jack, noticing that the front door was open. Robes and masks that reveal their meaningfulness in this heat. It was a quick matter of curiosity in people's eyes.
Ignoring his gaze, Jack walks over to the counter. At the counter, the mean man, who had grown his muscles, was carefully grooming the big knife.
"What?"
He didn't look annoyed, but spoke to Jack.
"I'd like to register a mercenary."
"Travelers?"
"Yes."
"Rookie?"
"Yes, it is. '
"Get lost."
The man ignores Jack, smiling as if it wasn't worth the effort.
"You don't need a bee roamer to catch a beast. And a novice? Will you accept anything that only dishonors the guild's credit?"
The man's tone was profoundly young in contempt and ridicule. Jack frowns at the unexpected door brace. Looks like your boss (?), the former players did not seem to have a good feeling about the mercenary guild.
You hear the laughter of "Kick Kick." Turning around, you see a group of mercenaries grinning, looking at Jack. You can clearly see him laughing.
"Aren't you going to accept the traveler?"
"I'm not answering. Unless they've been rolling around in this world a little bit. The youngsters are novices with no skills, they're complacent, and they're too scared to use them."
"At the beginner's time, so will the rest of the world."
"It's not as useless as you."
Jack sighs shallowly. This game really didn't have much kindness for players.
"I'd kill for it."
"Hoho?"
The man's gaze changed. With a surprising look in the eyes of the unknown "baby".
"You. You're a beginner."
"The bandits came here. So I put a knife to his throat."
"Hmmm."
The man strokes his chin with his hands and thinks.
"How do I prove it?"
"Kill the one, the one who deserves to die, kill the one who needs to be killed, kill the one who deserves to be killed, bring anyone." I'll prove it then. "
"Ka 'Hah. This one's funny!"
The man got up from his seat. Jack thought it was like a mountain was rising. The muscles that reminded the public of the bumpy hillsides, which seemed to be over three feet tall, felt under pressure by themselves.
"Follow me."
Saying that, the man walked inward. Thump, thump, and footsteps echo through the room.
"Dinosaurs."
Jack looks at the man, bored for a moment, and walks behind him. In a quick walk, the jack behind the man followed behind him and asked.
"Where are you going?"
"To make you a mercenary."
"Don't you have any tests?"
"The test is a frozen fool's test. No matter how good you are, a new mercenary is a Class F. That means you're good at what you do."
Jack was a little arrogant by what the man said.
"Can't you get a higher rank from the start?"
"What do you believe in, your career, your identity, your skills, etc.? You don't need a good guarantor. We mercenaries don't believe it unless we've experienced it firsthand."
Only the ignorant gather around. "The man chuckled.
"If you want to become a higher rank, work hard on your quest and climb from the ground up. Well, I'd appreciate it if you died in the meantime."
The bad news is that Jack held back his desire to hit the man on the back of the head.
"Then why is the story suddenly different? I thought you said you didn't take travellers."
"Oh, that? No, there's no rule about no tourists."
What the hell is this guy talking about? "I looked at it with my eyes." He smiled as if he had noticed Jack's gaze or that the man was petty.
"I mean, do you have any idea how annoying these newcomers are? No strength, no vitality, no common sense, no guts, no notices. If it's a little hard, I'm whining. Whining that they have to go back to their world between quests. But I'm on a quest, so I can't hit him. It's better to drag it from the start than to see it diminish its lifespan because of its temper."
"Then why am I possible?"
"Even if the cub tells me to."
The man who once looked at Jack as annoying said as he turned the corner of the hallway, keeping his thumping pace.
"At least you look different from the others. Honestly, a Class F mercenary doesn't need anything big. The limbs are fine, and if you're good at what you're told, that's it. Even novice travelers have a problem with that."
Seems like a lot of things were piled up, the man changed his teeth.
"But you kept talking nonsense when I told you to get lost. At least those who can claim to be so mean to my face won't be at all useless."
Well, since this is a mercenary life around the Middle Ages, it should be worse than the military. You deserve to get out of school.
"Here we go."
The man who was snorting stopped at one door. The man opened the door without hesitation.
