Chapter 5, Impossible, Absolutely Impossible!

“Hiss—”

Seeing Professor Plang take such a bold step, Professor Gran couldn’t help but gasp:

“Is it really necessary? What if he actually means it?”

“Means it? Heh…”

Professor Plang scoffed, “I’ve been a teacher for fifty years; I can see what kind of students they are at a glance.

Let me put it this way: unless Mu En Campbell has been possessed by an evil god, he will forever be a worthless piece of mud that can’t be propped up against a wall.”

“Well, I also find it hard to believe, but… huh? Huh? Look, isn’t Mu En Campbell apologizing to Ariel?” Professor Gran suddenly exclaimed.

“Apologizing?”

Professor Plang was taken aback, instinctively turning to look.

And there, at the entrance of the academy, amidst a crowd of onlookers, Mu En Campbell was indeed bowing his noble head to Ariel.

“What a joke…”

Professor Plang thought he was hallucinating.

He couldn’t believe that Mu En Campbell—the one who was so arrogant that even the professors had heard of him, the one who recklessly flaunted his status as the duke’s son—was actually lowering his head, admitting fault, and apologizing to the illegitimate child Ariel, whom he had always looked down upon and even deliberately ostracized?

What on earth was happening?

Could it be the end of the world was upon them?

“No, this must be an act; he must be concocting some kind of trick!

Hmph, if you think you can fool my fifty years of keen insight, you’re still far from it, Mu En Campbell!”

Professor Plang leaned out of the window, his hands braced on the sill, stretching his neck to get a better view.

In his slightly aged eyes, a spark of wisdom ignited.

He might feign a facade in front of others, but once in solitude, his true nature would surely reveal itself!

Just watch, I won’t take my eyes off you for a moment until I expose that ridiculous mask of hypocrisy!

“Ah, he’s entered the school.” Professor Gran played the role of commentator.

“Huh? He picked up some trash off the ground and even propped up the trash can.”

“He put a fallen bird’s nest back in the tree; those birds seem to be quite close to him.”

“He handed a handkerchief to a heartbroken girl, although she ran away from him in fright.”

“He took out a book, reading while walking, and he’s reading so fast!”

“And…”

“He’s actually bowing to the statue of the founding principal!”

Even the mischievous Professor Gran was astonished:

“What kind of ultimate model student is this? I’ve never seen a student bow to the statue of the founding principal!”

“…”

“Hmm? Professor Plank?”

Noticing the sudden silence beside him, Professor Gran instinctively turned his head.

He found Professor Plank staring intently at the spot where Mu En stood, looking as if he had turned to stone.

After a long pause, he finally spoke, his voice a bit hoarse:

“Not just the students, I’ve never even paid my respects to the statue of the founding dean.”

“…”

Silence.

Silence was the atmosphere of tonight’s Cambridge.

Mu En Campbell’s behavior today was so bizarre that even the two professors, who prided themselves on their worldly knowledge, found it hard to regain their composure.

It wasn’t until Mu En walked into the dormitory area, disappearing from the professors’ sight, that Professor Gran broke the silence, looking at Professor Plank and saying softly:

“So, are you going to swallow your desk whole, or tear it apart piece by piece?”

“…”

Professor Plank’s cheeks twitched as he glanced at his precious antique mahogany desk, then at Professor Gran, who wore a smile that hinted at mischief. After a long silence, he finally squeezed out a response through clenched teeth:

“It’s only been a day; it doesn’t mean anything. I will keep a close watch on Mu En Campbell. I will prove to you that I am right.”

With that, he turned and walked away without looking back.

“Wow~”

Watching Professor Plank’s gradually disappearing figure, Professor Gran whistled and muttered to himself:

“Still as stubborn as ever.

But…”

Professor Gran turned his gaze toward the dormitory area, his smile growing more animated:

“I have a feeling this year will be quite interesting at the school.”

……

“I remember I once accidentally kicked the head off this statue.”

Mu En looked at the statue of the old man with a white beard, tilting his head and immediately noticing the clear signs of adhesion around the statue’s neck.

“Hasn’t anyone discovered this yet?”

Mu En’s lips twitched.

He really didn’t know who this statue was meant to represent; it seemed so neglected in the academy. Didn’t anyone come to pay their respects?

As for the name on the statue’s base… it had long been covered by vines, rendering it unreadable.

“Regardless, it’s best to apologize first.”

Mu En respectfully bowed to the statue before him,

“Let this be a farewell to the old Mu En Campbell.”

From now on,

Read.

Study.

Cultivate strength.

Be a good student.

Completely rid myself of the fate of a yellow-haired villain.

With such a wish in mind, Mu En walked lightly towards the dormitory area.

……

“Dormitory 526, Mu En Campbell.”

Mu En first went to the dormitory manager to pick up the dorm key.

“Mu En Campbell?”

The dormitory manager looked at Mu En, her face filled with shock:

“You’re here so early? And all by yourself?”

She still remembered when Mu En first arrived at the academy, descending directly in a griffon-drawn carriage, dozens of maids following behind to help him organize his room.

That scene, tsk tsk, she still couldn’t forget it.

“Everything is ready, so naturally I’m here alone.”

Mu En smiled, “I’m not a child anymore.”

“Oh, oh.”

The dormitory manager was momentarily dazed by Mu En’s handsome smile and quickly handed the key to him.

“Here’s your key.”

“Thank you.”

Mu En nodded in gratitude and turned to head upstairs.

After Mu En left, the dormitory manager patted her chest, her plump cheeks slightly flushed:

“Goodness, why does it feel like after a holiday, Mu En Campbell has suddenly become so charming?”

……

“I didn’t expect to come to the academy after all.”

Opening the door to his single dormitory and looking at this room that was both familiar and unfamiliar, Mu En couldn’t help but feel a bit sentimental.

He had originally not planned to come to the academy, after all, not only was there the protagonist Ariel, who often clashed with him, but also Celicia, whom he didn’t know how to face, and it was also the stage for some dangerous events to come.

For him, a yellow-haired villain, it was indeed a bit too dangerous.

But…

Fate plays tricks, especially on this yellow-haired villain.

He had no choice but to come.

Mu En closed the dormitory door tightly and walked to a mirror, taking off his shirt.

At this moment, he already had a clearer outline of muscles, noticeably stronger than when he had just crossed over.

Yet on his somewhat fair skin, faintly visible strange lines could still be seen.

Like fingerprints.

Those were the marks left on him by the withered king of the evil god.

“Indeed, it can’t just dissipate naturally, can it?”

Mu En reached out, a cluster of crimson flames igniting in his palm.

But compared to the terrifyingly boundless power he had when confronting another evil god head-on before, the flames in his hand now seemed considerably weaker.

It was probably similar to the flames obtained by the assassin through sacrifice earlier.

“It’s just like some unscrupulous game’s first recharge experience bonus.”

Come on, just make a first recharge of six yuan, and let you experience a different kind of power, oh.

How about it? Is this power that holds the world in the palm of your hand impressive? Exciting?

What? Want more?

You’ll have to pay up!

No money?

That’s fine too; you can offer something else instead.

Like… a soul or something.

—Without thinking, Mu En knew that the reason the withered king didn’t fully reclaim this power was precisely this thought.

“How could I possibly comply with your wishes?”

Mu En extinguished the flames, murmuring softly.

This was exactly why he came to St. Maria Academy.

With two evil gods fixated on him, he had to become stronger more urgently.

Moreover, perhaps at the academy, he could find a way to completely sever the connection with the evil gods.

“But Mu En Campbell, you are just too useless!”

Just as he had made up his mind, Mu En couldn’t help but clutch his head and wail.

Of course, this “useless” wasn’t an insult to himself, but rather to the original host.

Because all he had to do was reflect on the emptiness of his mind, Mu En could feel just how wild and unrestrained the original owner had been during his first year.

He didn’t have to worry about the martial arts aspect; with his duke father laying a solid foundation for him, and the black book in hand, even if he had wasted a year, Mu En was confident he could catch up quickly.

But the problem lay in magic. Up until now, Mu En Campbell could only cast a pathetic illumination spell!

What kind of magic is the illumination spell?

It’s the ultimate simplification of the Holy Light spell, and aside from turning into a human-shaped light bulb, it’s utterly useless.

The principle behind it is probably just gathering the magical power of light elements in the palm and then releasing it.

It’s incredibly simple.

Yet Mu En Campbell could only manage this spell after a whole year! His theoretical knowledge of magic was practically zero! It was easy to imagine that he spent every magic class either sleeping or daydreaming.

It was nothing short of a miracle that he hadn’t been killed by his magic teacher!

But unfortunately, the black book couldn’t help Mu En learn magic, because magic couldn’t be learned through practical combat or by imitating others’ actions.

But he couldn’t avoid learning magic.

If he wanted to sever ties with the evil god, it seemed that magic was the only path he could take.

As for pursuing the path of faith… with that group of fanatics’ hatred for the evil god, he would probably be captured and tied to a cross to be burned alive before he even stepped through the doors of the Church of Life.

“So, the current situation is…”

Mu En looked at the magic textbooks on the table, which were no different from new ones, flipped through them, and found them to be as incomprehensible as ancient texts. He couldn’t help but smile wryly:

“This brute with an intelligence of only nine has to start from scratch to learn magic?”

A bit difficult.

But…

Also quite interesting, isn’t it?

Since he had decided to stop slacking off, he would tap into his resilience as a worker.

If he wasn’t afraid of the nine-to-six grind, why would he fear mere magic?

Let’s go for it, charge ahead!

……

After determining his direction for effort, Mu En no longer wasted time.

He put in a bit of effort to reorganize his room.

Then he went to the cafeteria and grabbed something to eat.

On the way, he just happened to bump into the new students arriving for registration. The newcomers didn’t know about Mu En Campbell’s reputation yet, and quite a few girls looked at him with starry eyes, clearly excited. If their parents hadn’t been nearby, they probably would have rushed over to strike up a conversation.

“It seems my charm is even more powerful than I imagined.”

Provided there weren’t those nasty rumors lurking around.

Mu En stroked his chin, feeling that improving his image in the eyes of others was truly imperative.

In the afternoon, back in the dormitory once more.

Mu En took a shower and lay down on the bed earlier than anyone else.

He closed his eyes.

He opened his eyes.

The familiar black space came into view.

He looked ahead, not far away.

A naked man stood there, an invisible aura radiating from him, like a long-starved beast.

“Have you been waiting long?”

Mu En tightened his grip on the short knife, a sinister smile creeping onto his lips.

“The one hundred ninety-seventh time, I will make you reveal that strange move that can summon thunder.”

The man grinned.

As if silently laughing.

……

……

“Hey, hey, Ariel, I heard Mu En Campbell apologized to you, is that true?”

In Ariel’s dorm, Lia leaned over her bed, asking curiously.

She had just returned from outside, and it was clear she had rushed back, a fine sheen of sweat on her forehead.

But she paid no mind to that, just staring at Ariel, eager for an answer.

“Uh-huh, yeah.”

Ariel was focused on an ancient book in her hands, nodding absently, “Mu En Campbell did apologize to me.”

“Is it really true?”

Lia exclaimed, unable to help but slap her forehead, which only made her chest heave.

“I thought it was just some baseless rumor.”

“So many people saw it today, what rumors could there be?”

Ariel rolled her eyes.

“Really? Then isn’t it also a rumor that Mu En Campbell tricked you into an abortion?”

“Of course not… Wait? What did you say?”

Ariel shot up from the bed, looking at Lia in shock:

“Did I just hear something outrageous like ‘abortion’?”

“Yeah, isn’t that what everyone’s been saying outside?”

Liya counted off on her fingers and said:

“Mu En Campbell hates you because you are his ex-girlfriend, and you followed him to school, unable to forget him. So he has always wanted to drive you away.

You originally had a child together, but Mu En Campbell, for the sake of the Campbell family’s reputation, forced you to have an abortion. The reason he apologized to you is that this matter has caused him a pang of conscience.

Moreover, while Mu En Campbell was dating you, he was actually juggling thirteen relationships at once, and you were the one with the strongest combat power among them, secretly referred to by him as…”

“Stop, stop, stop, stop! Enough! Enough!”

Ariel quickly gestured for Liya to stop, shocked:

“Where on earth did you hear these ridiculous things?”

“Outside.”

“Outside? Where outside?”

“Just among those classmates, um, mostly the girls spreading it.”

“How dare they spread such nonsense?”

Ariel slammed the table in anger.

“I’ll tear their mouths apart if I have to!”
