Chapter 14、Unexpected

“Senior… so strong?”

Watching her graceful figure in the air, dancing like a performer, Mu En couldn’t help but be mesmerized.

Although he had known for a long time that Senior Anna was one of the top students in the fifth grade, he never expected that she, who seemed so delicate, could be powerful enough to easily suppress, and even defeat, the terrifyingly strong High Priest.

“Hmph, if it weren’t for the fact that I’ve been eating poorly lately and couldn’t unleash my full strength, I could do this too.”

Seeing Mu En staring blankly at Senior Anna, Ariel pouted slightly and said, a bit dissatisfied.

“…”

Upon hearing this, Mu En’s mouth twitched violently. No, no, no, you are already quite frightening as it is! You’re only in the second grade!

The other second graders are still hiding behind the crowd below, trembling in fear. Just being able to occasionally cast a couple of spells is already considered brave. How can you just charge up and stand there fighting the BOSS? Have some mercy on them!

“Speaking of which…”

Ariel suddenly leaned in, the dominating aura that belonged to the protagonist dissipating, revealing a rare hint of girlish shyness.

“Could you please give me the frequency of your communication stone?”

“Huh?”

Mu En was taken aback.

The frequency of a communication stone? Is that something you can just give away? If I give it to you…

Ariel swung her great sword, smashing a muscular man who had been sneaking up, seemingly planning a surprise attack, into a state of paralysis, and smiled as she asked:

“Can you?”

“Sure, sure, of course I can.”

Mu En nodded vigorously, quickly pulling out his communication stone.

As the stones gently clinked together and the frequency was connected, a blissful smile appeared on Ariel’s face.

“Let’s keep in touch often, beautiful.”

“…”

Mu En felt a chill run down his spine, forcing a smile before quickly turning to call out to the senior.

“Senior, let’s go first.”

Ariel is too frightening; it feels like if I stay with her too long, I’ll end up losing something important.

“Okay.”

Anna replied.

“Let me just finish this off first.”

She held a uniquely shaped dagger in her hand, swiftly approaching the gravely injured High Priest.

It was the Holy Prayer Dagger, blessed by the Church of Life, capable of inflicting fatal wounds even on those corrupted by the evil gods.

As if sensing the threat from the dagger, the High Priest let out a fierce roar, his remaining left hand lunging violently toward Anna.

Anna’s gaze flickered.

Even in a state of full strength, the High Priest couldn’t keep up with her speed—how could he, in his already wounded state?

Without wasting a moment, she transformed into a fleeting shadow, evading the High Priest’s final struggle, and plunged the Holy Prayer Dagger into his heart.

It was precise.

The instant the dagger pierced his heart, it was as if he had suffered unbearable agony; the High Priest’s face contorted, his eyes rolled back, and with a violent spasm, life visibly dissipated from his body.

“It’s over.”

After confirming that the High Priest’s pulse and heartbeat had ceased, Anna let out a sigh of relief and turned to Mu En, revealing a charming smile.

“How about it, junior? Your senior…”

Before she could finish her sentence.

A sudden change occurred.

In the slightly dazed gazes of Mu En and Ariel.

The flesh around the High Priest’s grotesque wound on his shoulder began to writhe violently.

“What is this…”

Watching this nauseating scene, Mu En suddenly recalled some unsettling memories that had left a deep impression.

A sense of foreboding enveloped his heart, and he couldn’t help but shout:

“Be careful, senior!”

But surprises always come too quickly.

From the grotesque wound on the High Priest’s shoulder, a newly formed, robust arm, slick with blood and foul-smelling mucus, suddenly shot out from the writhing flesh.

Then, it caught the large knife that had fallen from the remnants of the old limb.

Gripping tightly,

It swung down violently.

Anna turned back, but it was already too late; no matter how agile she was, there was no time to evade such a close strike without preparation.

She could only instinctively extend her arm, a reflexive block.

“Senior!”

Mu En gritted his teeth, his body moving involuntarily.

“Ugh.”

But as his body sank, Ariel pressed him back down.

“With a delicate beauty like yours, it’s best not to move at a time like this. Leave it to me.”

Ariel stylishly swept her bangs aside, brandishing her great sword, and charged forward without looking back.

Quickly.

Very quickly.

At this moment, Ariel’s speed seemed to surpass even Mu En’s shadow step to some extent.

But,

it was still too late.

Because the blade had already fallen.

The instant the blade made contact with Anna’s arm, Mu En felt as if she could already see the great sword severing her limb, leaving behind a gruesome mark on her delicate body without losing momentum.

Her heartbeat seemed to freeze.

Her breath felt as if it had stopped.

Only the shadow of the blade descended upon a young girl’s flesh and blood.

But.

The scene Mu En had envisioned did not unfold.

At the moment the blade touched Anna’s arm, Mu En seemed to hear the sound of metal clashing.

Huh?

Metal clashing?

Mu En’s eyes widened in surprise.

The mottled light flickered.

And in the instant the fabric of her senior’s sleeve was torn by the blade, Mu En faintly saw a glimmer reflecting off the smooth, densely packed scales on Anna’s arm.

They looked like scales.

Snake scales.

But that image was just a fleeting flash; Mu En didn’t have time to confirm it before Anna suddenly retracted her hand and stepped back.

At that moment, Ariel finally arrived, her great sword ablaze, thrusting it into the high priest’s body, the immense force pushing him backward.

Anna came to Mu En’s side, grabbing his arm with her other hand, swiftly moving in another direction.

“We need to go.”

“Huh? Just like that? Are we not going to help Ariel?”

“It’s fine. Even if that monster is still alive, it’s already severely injured. Ariel can handle it.

And besides…”

Anna suddenly tilted her head, as if listening to something, and said:

“You didn’t notice? Someone has already come up.”

“Really?”

Mu En frowned and listened carefully, but the noise around was too loud; he couldn’t hear anything.

“Let’s go.”

Anna pulled Mu En and leaped down from the shadow on the other side of the dormitory building. With a flick of her long whip, she wrapped it around the rooftop railing, then her figure swayed slightly and crashed into a dormitory he couldn’t identify.

For the two of them, this wasn’t a particularly difficult move, so they landed smoothly and effortlessly.

Once on the ground, without the time to survey the surroundings, Mu En anxiously asked:

“Senior, are you okay?”

“I’m fine.”

“Really? But your hand…”

Anna tugged at her sleeve to cover her arm, smiling as she said:

“I’m really okay, junior. No need to worry.”

“Is that so?”

Mu En gazed at Senior Anna’s face.

At that moment, Senior Anna was indeed smiling, her smile still captivating and charming, but Mu En felt as if he could read a cold indifference from her beautiful face that kept others at a distance.

He couldn’t ask anymore, Mu En thought.

“What should we do next?”

The vibrations from above became increasingly apparent, as if, just as Senior Anna had said, new powerful forces had joined the battlefield.

“It seems like we don’t need to worry about what’s up there.”

Anna caressed her cheek and glanced up at the ceiling,

“So, since we’ve achieved the first goal of saving the junior, let’s move on to complete my second goal.”

“Second… goal?”

Looking at Senior Anna’s increasingly radiant smile, Mu En suddenly had a bad premonition.
