Chapter 10

“Phew.”

With a small sigh, Kael came down from the horse. His hands ran through his hair.

The smell of blood, which had barely subsided by it alone, flocked back to the tip of the butler’s nose.

The butler handed him a cloth to wipe the blood off.

“The blood smell is especially strong today.”

“I met an assassin.”

Kael blinked slowly.

“The latecomers will bring the surviving one.”

Kael said that and looked at the butler.

The butler bowed his head.

“Yes, I’ll take care of it.”

The lucky one who  survived went  to the underground of the Bertrand Castle which  would always  embrace  the harsh cold.

“Oh, and your Excellency.”

The butler said as Kael was about to enter the castle. Tears were formed in the wrinkled eyes.

“I have good news, sir.”

“Good news?”

“This is not a good place to tell you right away.”

“…”

Kael’s feet stopped.

His field of vision narrowed at once.

The quietness was filled with the sound of his heart pounding.

It was a symptom that he knew well.

The curse was the sound of a terrible thirst coming.

“Sleeping pills.”

Kael moved faster than before, biting his lower lip.

There were two ways to stop the curse from going wild.

Take a lot of sleeping pills before running around properly.

Or go underground on his own until it blows over.

‘You can still suppress it with medicine.’

Didn’t he get a lot of sleeping pills from Selma?

Just in case, he divided the amount into half and put it in the study and his room.

Here, the study was closer than the room.

“Look at that. Isn’t it the blood-drinking monster?”

“Haha, he’s listening. Hey!”

“Listen. You must be satisfied that you’ve killed your mother. Wait, you still have a father left, right?”

He remembered a malicious voice he had heard before.

That was what he had  heard in the imperial palace after his mother died in an accident.

How great would it have been if he was a real blood-drinking monster?

Then he wouldn’t have to suffer this pain.

Even now, he won’t have to find medicine and just drink the blood on a body.

Then, nothing would have happened to ‘then’.

Kael opened the door of the study with a smile and hardened.

“Hello, sir.”

There was someone in the study  which  should have been empty.

Under the dim light of the lantern, shoes with ribbons were flapping.

There was only one person in this castle who wore shoes like that.

His fiancee who arrived yesterday.

Princess Daphne Blake.

‘I definitely told them not to let her out of the room.’

How is she here? And how did she know he was coming here?

Kael walked along the boundary of the dim light.

He was in the dark and the princess was under the light of the lamp.

“What brings you here, your Highness.”

Daphne, who was sitting on a single sofa placed in the corner, covered the blue book she was looking at.

“I’m here to see your highness.”

“You mean me?”

“Yes, there’s something I really want to say.”

His eyes   squinted .

‘I’m sure she’ll tell me to follow the emperor’s order.’

Honestly, isn’t that all a 13-year-old commoner has to say?

“What do you want to say?”

The words came out harshly. He only wanted to get rid of the princess as soon as possible.

However, Daphne only smiled brightly.

Twinkle

Somehow, he was briefly distracted by the brighter smile than before.

While Kael blinked, strange words were heard.

“I’ll support you.”

As expected, Kael was embarrassed and asked back. Daphne replied loudly again.

“Sponsorship. I’m willing to sponsor you.”

Meanwhile, Kael gently bit his lips. The impatience faded.

Daphne laughed inside, fiddling with her hair.

‘He was at monster hunting, so he must have started to thirst. Or it got worse.’

After seeing the blood, Kael’s thirst will start acting up.

Therefore, rumors spread that “Prince Bertrand quenches thirst with blood.”

‘He tried to hurt a noble because of his thirst in the original work and my previous life.’

It was an incident that took place at an important ball.

One problem was that Kael sincerely tried to kill the man.

It seemed even more so because that nobleman was a representative of the imperial faction.

‘He has no hesitation in killing people.’

Daphne also witnessed it.

Kael was strangling a man with a face without any expression.

Knights rushed in and barely stopped him, so the nobleman was able to survive.

Since then, rumors have become worse.

In reality, he only feels thirst,  but  drinking  blood doesn’t solve it.

So now Kael will be nervous, anxious, and deficient.

So Daphne deliberately waited for Kael now.

She even brought up sponsorship to grab Kael’s attention.

And  just as expected.

“And the power to suppress the curse.”

As he tried his best, the boundaries quickly disappeared from the silver eyes.

He felt his stiff body relaxed due to tension.

He still had some doubts, but this was nothing.

“Do you like that?”

So he thought there would be no problem…

“Are you crying?”

Daphne blinked.

She didn’t see it wrong.

Kael was crying right now.

Just like boys usually do at that age.

He was shedding tears with an expression that he was not crying.

She was instantly reminded of a new appearance that she had never seen in the original or her previous life.

And crying with that face… The impact…

“What do you want?”

Fortunately, Kael swept his face and took a step back.

His tears disappeared under his calluses.

Thanks to that, she came back to her senses.

‘This is not the time.’

Daphne bit her lips painfully.

“I want your Excellency to stay healthy and become an adult safely.”

And,

“Kill all the imperial families and stand on them.”

“… Kill all the royal family members?”

‘Pause’

His answer was late.

“To be exact, I’ll help you sit on the throne.”

At Daphne’s ensuing and daring  words, the hand covering Kael’s face went down.

The silver eyes were  wide and astonished.

“That’s treason.”

Daphne’s hand, which had been held by strong force, became free.

Kael, who let go of her hand, stepped back one step and bit his lips.

‘You’re thinking about whether this is a trap or not.’

As an adult, Kael was always expressionless, so it was hard to read what he was thinking inside.

“I’ll pretend I didn’t hear this.”

Whether his hands were shaking or not, Kael clenched and unfolded his hand several times.

‘I can’t let you go like this.’

Daphne thought. Isn’t it almost over?

“Aren’t you preparing for the battle for the right of succession anyways? That fact would seem like treason to the emperor already.”

“…How did you know?”

“Hmm, it’s a secret.”

Maybe she can’t tell him that for the rest of her life.

Doubts in Kael’s eyes deepened.

Daphne slowly crossed the study looking at him.

“Don’t be so wary, sir. Even so, I hate the emperor and the princes as much as your Excellency.”

Just before, the smile standing on the side of the mouth disappeared.

“To the point where I want to kill them.”

She hated Alan for betraying her.

As much as that, she hated the emperor, whether the starting point of all this was not the emperor.

She couldn’t forget Claire, the second prince, who taunted her by drowning her in a winter lake.

“What if I don’t accept this offer?”

“I’ll leave.”

Daphne answered right away.

“I’ll leave and appear as your new enemy.”

She couldn’t deny that Kael was the right person for her revenge.

However, Kael was not the only candidate.

‘I’m the one holding the sword in this relationship.’

And Kael knew that too.

“Can you say that to me now?”

Kael stopped right in front of Daphne.

“I could kill your Highness now.”

Would it have felt like this when he encountered a hungry animal in the wild? There was a chilling feeling.

Silver eyes that seemed to flash.

“No.”

Honestly, it was scary.

How many people died in that hand. And will she die again?

Still, Daphne could look up at Kael and laugh.

“Your Majesty can’t kill me or hurt me.”

As if to hit the nail, Kael flinched.

“And no matter how suspicious I am, you’ll accept this offer.”

Because,

“Because I’m your only hope.”

‘Look. You don’t avoid my touch.’

When he let go of his strength, she sighed slightly to see if he was in a good mood.

‘The situation will change when Flora comes, but not now.’

Until Flora comes.

She was Kael’s only antidote.

‘Kael can’t reject me.’

Daphne stared at Kael’s face.

“Do you want some time to think?”

Daphne brought it up first.

At that time, the corners of Kael’s mouth went up.

“Is it really necessary?”

In an instant, the silver eyes were right in front of her.

Daphne, surprised, stiffened.

“I will accept it, the princess’s support. Just like you said.”

Somehow, sharp teeth could be seen between his slightly exposed lips.

“I’m not in a position to reject this or that.”

You can’t be pushed back here.

Daphne laughed, staring down at the eyes as if he was going to eat her.

“It’s nice that you answered so quickly.”

Then she raised herself casually.

She didn’t even take a few steps, but his eyes followed.

“Then I’ll go to bed now. I’m actually tired.”

“But your Highness.”

This time, Kael caught Daphne, who was about to leave.

Daphne turned around while opening the heavy study door.

“What are you going to do when I get to the throne?”

“I’m going to leave then.”

It was an answer that she didn’t have to think about.

“I’m going to leave and live my life.”

It has been set because of Alan.

She was just an ordinary person who knew the future by reading the original work and lived the two life in it.

‘In addition, I don’t know any of the situations after the original ends .’

So she’ll have to leave at the right time.

Regardless, she was going to live the life that she couldn’t enjoy in Korea this time.

A peaceful day spent doing what she liked, looking for what she really wanted to do, and reading books she wanted to read. A life tied up with such days.

Daphne wanted to have it.

It won’t be an anxious life where she would always be chased by something.

“So you don’t have to worry about internal affairs or empress problems. I’ll divorce you neatly when the time comes.”

Daphne looked straight at Kael and continued.

“If there’s anyone you want, put them in the Empress’s seat.”

There was no mention of the woman Kael loved in the original or previous life, but just in case.

Kael frowned at Daphne’s words.

“See you at the meal tomorrow, sir.”

Daphne left the study smiling.
