They Called Me FIVE

Chapter 108 - Please Don't.

LANCE

The knife… Magnus unwrapped the plastic and we gaped at it. Elongated, serrated at the side, blood drying at the handle and the edges. I can feel weird energy coming off from the knife.

The little inscriptions at the hilt made me want to double up in disgust. It's tugging something on me. Drawing me closer, trying to pull out a chunk of my soul. I imagine a rasp chattering voice in my head, saying "I'll… devour…you."

"You're… nothing."

"You're useless."

"Because of you they suffer."

"Pathetic. Your father abandon you."

"Worthless."

A branch, out of nowhere shot and took the knife from Magnus hands. It came from behind us. I turn around. Wild eyed and shaken. I heard Magnus beside me whimpered.

"See a cursed object? Destroy it. Don't look. Don't listen. Or it will curse you too." Seven said in our head. One of her branches is slithering at the cabinet wall. Wrapping itself around the knife.

My eyes caught sight as it blink red faint lights. The inscriptions lighted like store signs. But blood red. I shake off the image. It was just the darkness. My hallucinations. Nothing else.

Magnus cleared his throat low and adjusted his shoulders.

"Right, I'm sorry. I just…" his voice, for the first time, sounds vulnerable. What did the whispers say to him?

Seven took the sword Magnus held in his hand. He let her take it. His eyes turned glassy. Caught in a trance inside his world. I saw that look in Seven just a while ago.

I frown. I can't understand. I want to know. But I can't ask. What exactly happened to you two? Why were you so shaken by a talking knife? What words did it say? Do you have someone else you cared about in danger?

Or possibly… die? Right in front of your eyes? I shuddered at the thought. There's no way that's the case.  I shake off the haunting feeling in my chest. And focused on Seven. She raised her hands.

Silver sword gleaming at her wrist. When she bring it down, Sam on Magnus's shoulder yell. He leapt out of his shoulder and jumped on Seven. I step in the way.

"Sam!" His grisly hair is covering his face. I can't see his eye. But I notice the red like roots pulsing in his face. It's in his veins. I gasped. I parted away his hair. And probably peed on the spot if my gallbladder has water in its bag. Fortunately, I didn't drink anything today.

"Sam…" I whispered. Can't believe how his face transformed into a zombie like ghastly features. His eyes were popping out. Red, black and green veins were crawling all over his face and neck. It danced in his hands, in his legs.

With his nails, he clawed his battered shirt off, the scratch marks lined in his bare chest.

"Magnus what happened to him?" I asked, I can't hide the panic in my voice. Magnus looks so petrified, he can't utter a single word. He's grasping his shoulder.

"His brains." Seven said, "It's overcooked. Now the blood hog will come after him for real." Above us, the shrill voice followed by kekeke drummed the cabinet's headboard.

Seven was the quickest to respond. She put another wall to barricade us inside. Sealing the door, adding more thick and sharp branches to spike any Childe coming to get us. I held Sam in place.

He flail, kicked and elbowed me many times in the gut. I doubled over in pain. But I didn't let go. I keep thinking back to Dad's face when he transformed. There's a part of me that wants to save him back before.

But Dad betrayed me. Maybe now I'll set the difference. Maybe now I can save Sam. He is innocent. He doesn't want this unlike Dad. Unlike Lista. Loud bangs and screams echoed around us.

Terrified screams of creatures Seven spike using her branches banged on four corners. Magnus took the sword back from Seven's hands. He pointed it at the knife tightly clutch in one branch.

The red blaring light wasn't a hallucination. Everytime it concentrate its light, Sam reacted. He'd gained enormous strength and almost tore my bones apart from stopping him. The knife is controlling him to protect it.

"Magnus!" He whipped his head at me. The glassy eyes turned totally serious.

"Cut the knife's hilt. I think that's where the curse is concentrated."

Sam went crazy and bit off my wrist. I wheezed. I've endured much worse before.

"Hurry! I can't hold him much longer." Magnus raised his sword and bring it down in an arc. The knife tried to squirm from the branch captivity. it twirled and tighten its grip on knife.

Magnus's sword pierced straight to the knife's hilt, where the inscription is and it screams. Thousands voices of men and women brawled in misery. The red light gleams in constricted light. Like a star about to burst into a black hole.

Magnus and I just stared. The monstrous veins in Sam's arms disappeared. His strength is receding. He went limp in my arms. The wrist where he bit me off throbs. I ignore the pain.

Sam collapsed right on top of me. I jiggled on my feet. Magnus had to pull Sam towards him before me and Sam crash in the ground. He caught him in his chest. Letting him slid towards the floor.

I touch Sam's grisly hair. Parted it in between and gasped. His eyes. I noted. Is bleeding.  Wide open and bleeding. I fumbled my fingers to his neck. Checking his pulse. Magnus panicked with me and check his wrist.

Nothing. I pressed my fingers further. Pinching his skin to feel his blood pumping. Still nothing. I placed my palms to his chest. His heart…. Its not beating.

In a millisecond Magnus and I locked eyes before he swing his feet above Sam. He crossed his fingers and pressed his palm. Performing CPR.  I counted for him. My head is buzzing from all the things that happened so quickly.

Sam… I pleaded. Magnus is going crazy in pumping his palms in Sam's chest. I grab for his wrist. Still no pulse.

Please… you can't die Sam.
