To Return To Where You Belong To
Chapter 6
YinYang, a classic philosophy about two different natures that balance each other. One of them was Yin, which was symbolized as female, the moon, negative force, hidden or concealed, the night, and the winter. On the other hand, Yang was the male, the sun, positive force, open, the day, and summer.
The philosophy was intended to explain the contradicting sides of the nature, although it was also used in others.
But in this case, which one was the yin and which one was the yang wasn't that clear.
YueChen nearly got distracted again, fortunately, he quickly returned his focus to his homework or else he would be regretting things.
"I told you to do that the day before, why don't you listen to me?" Yuan Ji grumbled. "Now you're spacing out again."
"I'm sorry!"
"Apologies won't work on your teacher! Your studies are getting worse by day! Do you still value your life or not?!"
"I never want to live anyway...." YueChen mumbled softly.
"What did you say??!"
"Sorry!"
Three months had passed, and YueChen also had faced a lot of hardships. Most of them were caused by other factors, only a few were done by Yuan Ji—who was rather prideful of his achievement.
To the used-to-be-a-deity, not causing a trouble at least five times a day is easy. Not troubling YueChen, his host, for a couple days is a great achievement. YueChen wordlessly patted his head as a reward.
And, regarding the continuation of the story, Yuan Ji avoided every single time he mentioned it. The deity seemed to be not wanting to tell the rest of it, so after nine times YueChen demanded, he stopped doing that. 'Perhaps the story was too painful to tell', thought YueChen.
Yuan Ji too, didn't rub salt over his host's wounds lately. He just appeared when needed and disappeared once everything is settled. The banished deity had been doing that for a while, probably was initiated by two weeks' incident.
Even if he transferred into another school, the ghost child's problem could never be solved. Since the first year of kindergarten school, Yang YueChen was already outcasted by his peers. By the third or fourth grade of elementary school, Yang YueChen was already bullied by his classmates. By the age of twelve, Yang YueChen was sexually harassed by a middle aged man. It wasn't much, the harasser only groped and kissed, nothing more, but YueChen who was broken from the start broke a little more. For almost three or so years, Yang YueChen had turned from a good cheerful child into a dark, sorrowful scapegoat.
He often thought about death and suicide, about how nice if everything ended. No more pain, no more tears. Then, the next moment he would slap himself for thinking such thing. He repeatedly assured himself that his troubles weren't that terrible. There're much worse than him. He could go hours, days, weeks, even years convincing himself that he might be important. And Yuan Ji gladly helped.
"I'm not good enough." YueChen mumbled to himself, in his dim lighted bedroom, late at night. "People... people might not miss me if I disappear anyway... what's the point of living??"
Yuan Ji who was forcefully jerked awake from his deep slumbering groaned a little inside. "What's th—" his words were cut off by YueChen's sniffling. Yuan Ji realized at once that the latter was crying, which was new since Yang YueChen he knew always smiled and joked.
"What's wrong?" the deity spoke softly, trying not to frighten the adolescent. If he could manifest, he would also have embraced the boy and patted his back. Too bad that he couldn't. So Yuan Ji tried his best to comfort the crying child.
"Do you—you think that... I—I'm not normal?" YueChen asked, hiccuping. He wiped his tears only to find more flowed down his cheeks. His starless orbs were swollen and red, the same colour dusted his nose.
"You're fine. Heck, I thought that you are the best the moment we met."
"But—"
"No buts. I like you, regardless of your flaws. If people hate you because of your weakness, they're narrow-minded and didn't deserve anything good. It's not your fault that you have to carry more burden than some people since young age."
YueChen could only listened attentively and nodded at the deity's words. His hiccuping began to cease.
"One day, you'll be happy. And I'll help you, be there by your side through all your troubles, okay?"
The boy cried a little more, not from pain, but from something different.
