Tou no Madoushi

Lynn woke up on the infirmary bed.

With the scent of incense medicine and gentle light, Lynn didn't know where she was.

"Oh, I'm awake already."

A woman with glasses in her white coat glances at her face from the side.

"This place..."

"It's the infirmary. I knew it would be nice to recover quickly when you're young."

Hearing of recovery, Lynn remembered that she had lost consciousness fighting the Beast.

"Um... how long have I been sleeping here?"

When I looked at the dull window, the book of the night was already down. It should have been dusk when we got to the tower.

"It's about an hour. No nausea or anything that hurts?

The woman asks as she measures Lynn's pulse.

"No. I'm fine"

"Yes. Then you're discharged."

With that said, the woman heads to her desk and starts writing something.

"You can go now. There's a dorm manager waiting outside. Let me show you to the bunk."

The woman said without taking her eyes off the paperwork with the attitude that she was no longer interested in Lynn.

"If you feel sick again, come here," she called when Lynn left the room.

The dormitory manager was a disappointingly bodied, tall, middle-aged woman.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Knorr, the dorm manager. I mainly take care of the residence of apprentice magicians. Is your body okay now?

"Yes, I'm fine"

"Yes. Then we have to decide on the bed for today first. Do you have a message from your parents?

"... No, I don't"

"What about the master who recommended me? Didn't you hear about some kind of financial assistance?

Lynn tried to remember if Yuin would have said anything.

I didn't feel like I was saying anything in particular, and I didn't think Yuin would bother cutting any money for me.

"You haven't heard anything in particular."

"Well, then you'll have to earn your own money."

"Do you need to pay for the inn?

Lynn thought if she passed the exam, she could live in the tower for free.

"I need it. It's not natural. We need money to do anything in the world. You don't have any money?

"Not at all."

"Yes. Then use the lending system. I have a system that lends me low interest rates for apprentice magicians. So you can cover the immediate cost of living."

Lynn is getting anxious. What should I do if I borrow money but run out of that money?

"It's okay. There are many apprentice magicians who earn their own tuition just like you. There's plenty of work for a magician on this tower. You'll get a job soon, even if you just got here. But don't waste it. 'Cause every year people lose their necks and get sold off."

Knoll told me to encourage him to read his anxiety from Lynn's expression.

"I'll keep the lending system process with this one. In the meantime, I'll register in the cheapest room for magicians who don't have a delivery. That's good, right?

Lynn had no choice.

"Yes, please"

"Then I'll show you quickly. I was worried because of the irregular period of dormitories, but fortunately if it was a cheap room, it would be empty. Though I will be sharing a room. Well, you're not in a position to complain about your living environment. That's good."

I feel more and more conditions are attached to it later, but there's nothing I can do about Lynn.

Lynn thought you were some kind of scavenger.

I'll just make up my mind about everything.

So much so that this one doesn't have a gap to pinch your mouth.

Knorr tries to get out of the infirmary depot.

I also tried to follow Lynn.

"Oh yeah, I forgot to say that..."

Knoll stopped and looked back like he remembered something and said:

"Congratulations on passing the exam. Welcome to the Tower."

Lynn was only a little fond of Knoll.

Lynn was taken to Knorr and guided to the settlement.

I had to take the elevator again to get from one of the wards of the infirmary to the living quarters.

Knorr told me which elevator to take to get to the living quarters.

"Can you read magic letters? Well, you can't read it, can you? This letter. Any elevator with this letter on it will take you to the apprentice magician's quarters, where you're going to live."

Knorr ripped off one of his notebooks and gave it to Lynn.

Letters come up on blank paper when Knorr casts a spell.

"Because letters disappear after a few days. I'll try to keep it off the other paper later. I can't live here without being able to read this much more. I need to be able to tell which elevator to ride without a note."

"What do you read this letter?

"The Nest of Dobrats."

That's a terrible name, Lynn thought.

"This is what you say to go to the neighborhood." Nest of Dobrats, to the 30th Floor ". Want to try it?

"Can I do it?

"You can do it. You understand magic, don't you? Try to remember what it felt like when you used the ring."

Lynn was thrilled. I didn't know magic could be used so quickly. Lynn tried to imitate and chant Knoll. But I couldn't pronounce it well.

"You need practice. Well, practice a lot."

In the end, the spell is chanted by Knorr and the elevator moves out.

"Magic characters are important. I can't do one thing here without this. Be quick to remember. I won't even take the college entrance exam."

"Entrance exam? Do you still have the exam?

I thought the earlier exams were combined with the college entrance exams.

"That's right. All college classes are held in magic. You can't have someone like you in college who doesn't solve magic words no matter how many qualities you have. What you passed is a practical exam. In addition to my practical exams, I have to pass my written exams to get into college. I'm supposed to take it at the same time. Your master, or the examiner, stepped on it that you wouldn't take it anyway and left it to the practical exam."

"... written exam"

"Some aristocratic children are. I'm studying some magic before I come to this tower, so I pass the entrance exam at the same time. Kids like you are going to have to pass the exam on their own. Besides, you're late. You have to study a lot."

Lynn got laid.

Even my own language says I can only read and write a little.

I wonder if I can remember a new language.

"Don't be silly because it's an entrance exam. It's quite a challenge. Because some people don't take it the rest of their lives. And tuition. You have to earn your own tuition. To a certain extent, it's just the top performers."

The 30th floor/dove rat nest was a dim place, as its name suggests.

Lynn walks down a dark, elongated hallway about after Knoll.

Doors are positioned at regular intervals.

It means that every single one of these rooms is inhabited by a magician apprentice.

Lynn was a little horrified.

I was worried about what kind of hen hut they would put me to sleep in, but this seemed like a better hut than the one I used to live in.

Because there wasn't even a decent door where Lynn slept.

Right here.

Knorr stopped in front of a certain room.

Knock on the door.

But there's no response.

Knorr banged on the door with great momentum.

Lynn is gnawed.

"Theo! Have you slept yet? Will you wake up for a second? Theo!"

A little bit later the door opened up vigorously and a boy appeared to be yancha with tungtung hair.

"Shut up. I wonder what time it is."

Apparently he was asleep. The boy called Theo is rubbing his eyes.

"Knoll. What the hell is going on at this hour?... What about him?

Theo notices Lynn and turns to fall asleep.

"I'm Lynn, the new magician apprentice. Because all of a sudden I was going to live in what room. I just got here and I don't know anything about it, so tell me all about it.

"A new magician apprentice? At a time like this?

Theo looks frigid and giddy about Lynn.

"Well, it happens sometimes. You can get along because you're in the same triarian language at the same age. At last, she's just like you and has no parents to send her. See you later."

That's all I'm saying, Knorr just walks away.

"Damn that Baba. Trouble pushing. This one's early tomorrow morning."

Theo invites Lynn into the room as he says the bumps.

You're a much poorly spoken child.

There were just two beds in the room, plus one bookshelf and closet at a time.

"This is my bed. Your bed is that way."

Lynn takes a look at who she says is her bed. There were books, clothes, paper, and ink all cluttered up.

It was going to be a little tricky to clean up.

"You, did I say Lynn? Where are you from?

"Carele"

"Carele? Never heard of it. Wait a minute. 'Cause I'll clean up on the bed right away."

"Fine. It's early tomorrow morning, right? I can sleep on the floor."

"You can use magic for a moment."

Theo waves a spell as he takes the wand placed on the wall.

"Go back!"

Then the thing on the bed moves alone. I slowly drifted through the air wondering if I had risen flutterly, and went back to where I was supposed to be with the book on the bookshelf and the clothes in the closet.

Theo grins invincibly at Lynn as she is rounding her eyes.

"You can do it as soon as you can. You understand magic, don't you?

"Yeah."

"It's Theo Garfield. Nice to meet you."

I'll give you my hand.

Lynn reluctantly shook Theo's hand.
